Alvin Campbell claims Pennsylvania deer hunters outpace Iowa with over 23000 hunters on opening day shown in a clipping. The writer cites WWII Italy memories and argues laws too lenient on criminals while urging return of warmup jackets for Greene squad. Jerry Eimers is seeking jackets from former Rambler supporters.
The high school athletic department reports four warmup jackets were taken during summer construction. Jackets are needed due to lack of funds and color mismatch risks. Deserving basketball squad members may go without if not returned. Information or returns will be kept confidential.
A Social Security Administration representative will visit the Sheriff's Building basement in Allison on January 7 and 21 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Waterloo office at 525 W 5th Street is open weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and can be reached at 234 1554.
Waldorf College Forest City earned several top honors in the 1969 All-America selections. Dan Wegand Greene son of Mr and Mrs Max Wegand was a member of the All-America squad. Waldorf went 8 0 and ranked ninth nationally in final junior college poll, with stingy defense and 207 17 point margin.
Clark Moser underwent major surgery on Wednesday December 17 at Mercy Hospital Mason City. He is expected to remain confined for four to five weeks and visitors are welcome in room 457.
April Barth, daughter of Mr and Mrs Bob Barth, returned from Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City on Monday December 22. She had been admitted last Thursday with a high fever.
District Director John F. Hanlon of Iowa announces removal of excise tax on certain farm use truck, trailer and semitrailer bodies designed to haul animal and poultry feed. Unloading systems are integrated, using conveyors or blowers, with top loading access and powered by the vehicle engine. Conventional feed and grain bodies retain their tax status.
Pvt. James L. O'Brien son of Mrs. Cyrilla Brown is home on leave until January 3 then departs for Fort Lewis Washington and from there to Vietnam.
Greene Ramblers wrestling team earned second place in a Waterloo Courier poll receiving 44 votes from coaches statewide to rank the top 10 A division teams Beaman-Conrad led with 70 votes. First year head coach Richard Jaffe praised progress and noted the squad is young and should improve next season.
Iowa Conservation Commission biologist urges deer hunters to complete and return the hunter report cards attached to their licenses. Whether successful or not, hunters should answer the questions on the addressed postpaid card and mail it immediately. The data helps set the deer hunting season.
Greene defeated Dumont 46 to 30 as the Ramblers held a 26-13 halftime lead. Joe Shultz led Greene with 16 points, followed by Mark Bigler and Ricky Ebling with 9 each. Dumont's top scorer was Anderson with 10. Greene improved to 4-1 and faces Nashua next on January 5.
The St. John’s Lutheran Church Sunday School in Wilmar presents a Christmas program on Christmas Eve at 7 00 p m titled He Came Among Us. Debra Schrage and Warren Weigman portray Mary and Joseph on the journey to Bethlehem with innkeepers and shepherds also depicted by local cast. The program features Angels and ends with Joy to the World with Emory Niehaus on organ and Janet Weigman and Diane Debner at the pianos.
The Junior High teams split at Clarksville on Tuesday December 16. The 7th graders won 29 to 14 while the 8th graders lost 48 to 28. Van Eschen led locals with 12 points as Jewell Allison Wunsch Stark and Weyand added 4 or 2 points. Kampman led the Indians with 22 points followed by Ponto with 14.
Mrs Eva Kirsch attended funeral services in Ames on Wednesday December 17 for her cousin Marie Guendling 57. Committal services followed at St Marys Cemetery in Greene with Father Joseph Murphy in charge. Miss Guendlings parents Mr and Mrs Ed Guendling were former residents of Greene.
Charlies W Bochmann son of Mr and Mrs Henry F Bochmann Jr of Greene returns after four years in the U S Navy. Duty included USS Chicago USS Arlington Sangley Point Philippines Apollo missions and a Presidential visit on the Arlington. Eligible for National Defense Ribbon Vietnam Service stars Navy Unit Commendation and Meritorious Unit Commendation. Released November 26.
New daughter born Thursday December 18 to Pastor and Mrs. Paul Tobiason of LeMars. Maternal grandmother Mrs. Fred Wirth of Greene and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Tobiason of Scotch Grove are cited in the birth notice.
S R Karl Sneed of Great Lakes Illinois arrived Friday to spend a two week leave at the home of his parents Mr and Mrs Sam Sneed.
A one day clinic for all purebred beef breeders in the Iowa State University Waterloo Extension Area will be held January 7, 1970 at the Clayton House Motel in Waterloo. Registration opens at 3:00 A.M. Speakers include breed associations and ISU Extension staff. Enrollment closes January 4 at county offices in Bremer Butler Black Hawk Buchanan Chickasaw Grundy or Tama Counties.
The mayor and council warn children to stay off the river as ice remains inconsistent and soft in many spots due to mild weather and heavy snow. The mayor urges everyone to avoid skating or walking on the river until further notice for safety.
The 54 day pheasant and Hungarian partridge season ends at 4 30 p m December 21 1969 per the Iowa Conservation Commission. The fox and gray squirrel seasons end with year’s end while fox and gray squirrel hunting finish on December 31. Rabbit and raccoon seasons stay open into early 1970.
The Greene Ramblers remained unbeaten with an 82 to 72 victory over St Ansgar, a strong rival, in a tight contest. Gary Johnson led Greene with 31 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds, while St Ansgar fought hard, but Greene controlled the boards 37 to 26 and shot 55.3 percent.
The Greene Iowa Post Office will be closed on Christmas day with no counter or rural delivery service. Mail will be received, distributed and dispatched as on all other holidays.
Conservation Commission officials remind sportsmen that all Iowa hunting, fishing and trapping licenses expire on December 31, 1969. New licenses for 1970 are available from county recorders and other authorized depositors.

The five percent rate applies to all Series E and H bonds sold on or after June 1 1969 and to outstanding E and H bonds beginning with the first semiannual period after that date. New E bonds mature in 5 years 10 months while H bonds mature in 10 years. Freedom Shares will be removed from sale effective June 39 1970.
