The Greene Fire Department responded to Harold Teeters residence at 1 35 p m Sunday December 14 to extinguish a blaze in his bait shop. Fire Chief Lowell Maxson said the fire was out on arrival with minor damage caused by a fan motor burnout.

The Greene fire department hosted an oyster stew dinner for city officials including the mayor clerk treasurer and councilmen at the Veterans Club on Monday evening December 8. Officers were re elected: Lowell Maxson chief Francis Teeple assistant chief and Donovan Ruffridge secretary treasurer.
The Greene Jaycees will honor two local leaders during National Jaycee Week for Outstanding Young Farmer and Outstanding Young Educator. Judging focuses on career progress conservation and community service for OYF while OYE recognizes teaching excellence across grades one to twelve.
Greene area churches announce Christmas programs from December 21 to 24. Calvary Baptist features a Junior Program and choir cantata The Night the Angels Sang, Brethren Church presents a Christmas Eve program, and First Presbyterian stages the O Come Let Us Adore Him pageant with child roles and narrators. St Mary’s offers Midnight Mass and Christmas Day masses, United Methodist presents Jesus, Desire of Man with Old and New Testament scenes and carols.
Neil Sylvester passed away this morning at Americana Nursing Home in Mason City. She is survived by one son, John Sylvester of New Jersey. Services tentatively set for Friday at Heid's Funeral Chapel.

Succumbed Mrs August Backer age 83 died Monday December 15 in Charles City. Survivors include three sons Harry August and John in Greene area. Services set Thursday at 1 20 p m at St John s Lutheran Church Charles City.
Cub Scouts host a Christmas party tonight at 7 30 p m in the Elementary school building. Each Scout brings a 50 cent grab bag gift and each family brings one dozen cookies.
Greene w Wrestling team placed 5th in the South Winne shiek Invitational Tourney held last Saturday. Of 12 weight classes seven grapplers placed in the top four. Notables include Dennis Ratcher second at 145 and six others at third. Riceville won the tournament by a wide margin.
Gary Debner was selected as the first Outstanding Ram. He serves as Senior class president, three year track letterman and tri captain, placing 6th in State mile medley and winning the decathlon. He lettered two years at fullback, earned team MVP in 1969, earned all conference honors, and honorable mention. Debner also plays 1st trombone and leads the band, belongs to National Honor Society, and presides over Luther League at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He plans a job at the local pool next summer after lifesaving certification.
Mr. Wyman R. Wilson of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service announced that the address reporting period begins in January. All aliens in the United States, with few exceptions, must report their addresses to the Government during that month. Forms will be available at post offices and INS offices. willful noncompliance may result in serious consequences.

The Greene Woman's Club sponsors a Snow Sculpture contest from December 17 to 23 with prizes of 5, 3, and 2 dollars for the top three. Entries must be left at Drake's Department Store by December 23 with the entrant’s name and sculpture location.
Ernest Landers came home Saturday from Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City where he had been a patient since December 5.
Fern Stauffer wins Operation Santa Claus prize from First State Bank of Greene. She earned $25 and a chance at three top prizes to be drawn Saturday December 20 at 10 30 p m. The event will be aired in color on KGLO TV. top prizes are 500, 300, and 200 dollars.
Jerry Meek departed December 14 for Oakland California where he boarded a flight to Vietnam on December 15 Mrs Meek and Robbie will stay alternately with their parents Mr and Mrs Dale Wilken and Mr and Mrs Wayne Meek until his return.

The Rambler boys overpowered Riceville 91 to 45 with four in double figures led by Dave Fischer 19, Gary Johnson 17, Tom Needham 15, and Jerry Shultz 14. Rebounds 53 to 18, Johnson 17 points and 3 assists, Shultz 8 assists and 8 recoveries, Ramblers prep for Saint Ansgar test. The Ramblerettes beat Riceville 84 to 57 after leading 38 to 25 at halftime, Mary Stauffer scoring 47 and Janea Fischer 25.
Twelve Butler County residents named to the Grand Jury roster for 1970 report January 5 at 9 30 a m at the Court House in Allison. The list includes Orpha Truex Eleanor Tamm Paul Frey Mrs Duane Nevenhoven Paul Rosenwinkle Bennie R Hinders Jr Homer Dunham Mrs Kenneth Shear Mrs Mervin Groninga Mrs Martin Boomgaard Mrs Francis Boom Darrell Brinkman and others from multiple townships. Fifty county residents were drawn for possible district court jury duty for January February and March 1970 with listed trial jurors from numerous townships.
Joel W Sult earned the Eagle Award the Boy Scouts of America highest rank. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Weldon F Sult of Marble Rock and a member of Troop 28 sponsored by Marble Rock Lions Club. The ceremony featured district scout executive Bob Kehres and an Eagle team from Charles City.
Airman Earl W. Garrison Jr., son of Mr and Mrs Earl Garrison Sr of Clarksville, has completed the U S Air Force aircraft mechanics course at Sheppard AFB Texas. He is assigned to Cannon AFB New Mexico with the Tactical Air Command. Garrison a 1967 Clarksville High School graduate, is married to Susan, daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard D. Johnson of Parkersburg.
The Freshman-Sophomore boys won 44-34 at Dumont on Monday night December 15. Greene led with 15 points, Bigler-12, Shultz-9, Ferl ing-4, Metzger and Ponto-2. DuMont’s Techa led with 12. Next game vs St Ansgar Friday night.
