Mrs. Sade Majewski fractured her hip after a fall on Friday December 13. She was transported to Floyd County Memorial Hospital and placed in intensive care, where she remains under supervision.
Fire destroyed a hog house on the Don Clikeman farm in Greene. Greene Fire Department arrived at 5:10 a.m. to find the building a total loss. Farrowing stalls a furnace five sows and about 50 baby pigs also perished in the blaze.
Wilford Guiner suffered a light heart attack this weekend and has been confined to bed for several days of rest. Doctors expect a full short term recovery with continued monitoring.
Mace H. Bammann received an honorable U S Army discharge after three years of service including a year in Vietnam. He and wife Sue arrived at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Bammann, on December 9.
Ralph L. Cagley 66 of Greene died Sunday morning December 15 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital. Born July 15, 1902 in Chickasaw County he married Edna Huffman June 19, 1924. He retired from Oliver Corp in 1967 after 31 years. Survived by wife Edna four daughters Glendora Lightbody Marion Joy Sparenberg Peggy Smith and Carol Lueck eight grandchildren two sisters and a brother. Funeral at First Baptist Church Charles City December 17 with burial Sunnyside Memory Gardens.
Thaine Hogue who has been Work Unit Conservationist for Butler Soil Conservation District since March 1965 will be transferred to Howard County in January. No replacement for Thaine has been announced yet.
Mrs Minnie Reinking was released from Floyd County Memorial Hospital on Friday after a two week stay for medical treatment and medication.
The 94th birthday of Clarence McCracken, a resident of Mathers Rest Home, will be observed on Sunday December 22 with residents and staff noting the milestone.
Bill Garners Rambler wrestlers finished fifth in the Calmar tournament on Saturday December 21. Riceville led with 95 points, followed by Tripoli 82, Turkey Valley 59, Postville 56, Greene 31, South Winneshiek 2, Central 15 and MFL 10. First round results included Lenard Bieder man and Joe Kuennen among winners. Jim Meek claimed the 154 pound title with two decisive wins. Tripoli returns to face Greene here this Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
The Greene firemen hosted city officials including the mayor clerk and councilmen at a Monday oyster stew gathering at the Veterans Club. Wilbur Klassi prepared the stew. Fire department officers were re elected: Lowell Maxson chief Francis Teeple assistant chief and Donovan Ruffridge secretary treasurer.
The Iowa State Employment Service plans a new office in Butler County at the Farmer's Co op Elevator opening January 7 1969. Joe Keeney will handle Tuesdays interviews and testing. Gale Barth left Floyd County Memorial Hospital on December 10 after undergoing surgery.
Wednesday league semi finals at El-Bar Lanes saw Riverside Cafe defeat El-Bar Lanes 38 26 while Nordmeyer Construction beat Hamm's 33 31. High scores included Bob Barth 211 234 for 642 and Carroll Schroeder 225 for 604. Wednesday Hot Shot league top scorers: Wayne Feldman 201 for 574 and Carroll Schroeder 215 for 569. Friday Town and Country notes show Amway 9 39 02 and Sperry-Ray Insurance 36 24.

The Office of Economic Opportunity relocates the Butler County Community Action office from Bay Insurance to the vacated Farmer's Co-op Elevator space on Traer Street. Genevieve Tiemens serves as Butler County Representative.

Twenty five turkeys to be won by adults who register. drawings at Mel's TV at 8:30 p.m. on December 21. Free cartoons at Greene High School auditorium Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Santa Claus will visit after cartoons, candy for children. Christmas lights funded by the Greene Commercial Club with tax deductible donations to secretary Mrs. Marvin Nelson.
Butler County public assistance spending totaled 33819 for November with overall Iowa payments at 5439799. The drop in average cost per case for Aid to Dependent Children reduced totals despite more recipients. old age, aid to the blind and disabled programs also showed lower outlays. The Greene High School concert band and choir perform tonight at 8 00 pm. It opens a five concert series by the school music department. Instrumental director Ray Holtz and vocal director Harold Blosser invite all to attend.

The Greene Ramblers crushed Riceville 96 to 49 as they built a 59 to 25 halftime lead. Siemens scored 19 at halftime, Stuntz 14 and Johnson 12. Jim Shultz did not suit up due to illness.
Marine Private Robert H Nyght 21 of Fort Dodge drowned on a Mediterranean island during a Marine training cruise. He died December 8 with body recovered December 13. A 1965 Eagle Grove graduate, he served eight months in the Army and is survived by his wife Barbara of Fort Dodge and his parents. Also named are twelve Butler County residents to the Grand Jury roster for 1969 to report January 6 at 9:30 A M, and fifty county residents drawn for possible District Court jury duty in Q1 1969 across townships including Albion Beaver Bennedette Coldwater Fremont Jackson Jefferson Madison Monroe Pittsford Ripley Shell Rock Washington West Point. lists include multiple residents per township.
New resident Mr and Mrs Darrel Miller announce the birth of a son named Jeffrey Ray born Saturday December 14. The baby weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces and both mother and child are at St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Waverly. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Ivan Clikeman and Henry Miller of Greene.
Mrs Ruth Haughenbury returned to her Greene home on Thursday after an eight week stay in Mason City at St Josephs Mercy Hospital. She underwent surgery following a car accident last May.
August Grendler underwent eye surgery Tuesday at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Mason City and expects to be hospitalized for several days.
Henry Bochmann is the local winner of Operation Santa Claus sponsored by First State Bank of Greene. He won $25.00 plus a chance at three top prizes to be drawn Saturday December 21 at 10 30 p m televised in color by KGLO-TV. First prize is $500, second $300, third $200.
