Butler County Farm Bureau Board Meeting Advised

The Butler county farm bureau Board of Directors will hold its final meeting of 1957 on Monday December 30. Directors for 1957 and 1958 are requested to attend. The session runs from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm with a noon pot luck lunch in the auditorium. Families are asked to bring a covered dish. Butter, bread, coffee and milk will be provided.

Aliens To Report Addresses Soon

District Director Robert Wilson of the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Omaha Nebraska says aliens in the United States must report their addresses to the Attorney General by the end of January each year starting January 1. Exemptions include accredited diplomats those accredited to certain international organizations and temporary agricultural laborers. Forms are available at post offices or immigration offices during January. Penalties apply for noncompliance.

De Lone Wood Honored At Farewell

Mr and Mrs DeLone Wood and Barbara were honored at a farewell pot luck dinner after morning church services at the Methodist Church. About 90 attended. Speeches were given, carols sung, and Scripture read. Woods headed to LeRoy Minnesota where Mr Wood will work for Interstate Power. Barbara will stay in Greene until mid January. Grinery of Waverly purchased the Wood Hotel and will take possession between Christmas and New Years.

Election Set to Allow Natural Gas Franchise in Greene

Peoples Natural Gas plans a January 15, 1958 election in Greene to grant a 25 year non exclusive franchise for gas distribution. The vote, paid by the company, would enable Greene to join 110 other Iowa communities served by the division of Northern Natural Gas Company.

Last Commercial Club Drawings Set For Free Turkeys

The last two Commercial Club drawings for free turkeys and hams will be held this afternoon Wednesday and Saturday after noon at 3 30 p.m. Two bicycles will also be given away one today and one on Saturday. Three turkeys and five hams will be awarded at each drawing and all winners must be present. Children are invited to free movies this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Greene Community School auditorium.

Next Farm Ag. Meeting January 6

On Monday January 6 at 8 p.m the adult farmer class will meet to discuss insulation and ventilation of farm buildings. Coffee and doughnuts will be served after the meeting. Earlier discussions on December 16 featured five farmers debating pasture versus dry lot hogs with sixteen members present.

Young Scouts Triumph Over Allison

Greene Cub Scouts and eleven year old Boy Scouts faced Allison on Saturday December 14 earning two wins. In the 8 and 9 year game Greene won 15 to 5 led by Jerry Fischer with 11 points. The 10 and 11 year match finished Greene 30 to 14 with Paul Hamilton scoring 10 points.

Winter Concert Will Be Tonight At Greene School

The Greene Community School music departments present their annual winter concert this evening at 8 in the auditorium. Merlin Steere Wins Top Notchers Watch at Banquet

Mr and Mrs Merlin Steere of Greene and Mr and Mrs John Marks of Allison were guests of honor at Archer Petroleum Corp s Top Notchers banquet in Mason City. Merlin Steere received a gold wrist watch for top sales in the North Central Iowa district, which includes 16 counties. Mr Marks is Butler county manager. About 65 guests attended, including company officials from Omaha.

Farm Institute Set for February 14 and 15 in Des Moines

Des Moines hosts the Twentieth Annual National Farm Institute at Hotel Fort Des Moines February 14 and 15. County Schools Receive Warrants for General and Supplemental Aid

Warrants for General Aid and Supplemental Aid were received by the Butler County schools for distribution. General Aid totals show large sums to districts including Greene, Bennezette Two, Coldwater Two, and Dayton Two, with specifics on per pupil rates and annual averages. Some districts that dissolved will have warrants turned to the new community district.

Foresters Prepare For Tree Orders

Foresters of the Conservation Commission said they are taking orders for a wide variety of trees and shrubs at the Commission's For . Nursery at Ames. Seedlings will be delivered express collect in time for spring planting and may be used for conservation reserve plant s.28 under the Soil Bank or for erosion control and wildlife planting programs. Hardwood seedlings include black walnut dogwood island olive silver maple mus tulora rose and others. Black walnut priced at 1.50 per 250 nuts and multiflora rose at 6 per 250 trees. All others 34 per 250 trees. Price per thousand generally 12.50. Conifers include white pine red pine and Austrian pine. Softwoods priced at 6 per 250 seedlings, thousand price 22. No less than 250 plants of any one species, and each order total at least 500 plants. Three wildlife planting packets tailored for small game areas priced 3.75 per packet. Full price lists sent to county ASC committees extension directors SCS personnel and state conservation officers. Orders may be placed through these agencies after January 1, 1958.

Rites Held for Henry Hinders

Henry Hinders aged 74, born in Ostfriesland Germany, emigrated to the United States as a youth. He farmed near Allison and Bristow before moving near Rudd, where he died December 11 after a period of ill health. He left a large family, including eight children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, with services held at the Rudd Methodist church.

Coffee Strips Buy Gifts For Children

The American Legion Auxiliary collected 3486 Butternut Coffee strips for a yearly project aiding orphaned children of veterans. Of the total 2950 were sent to Omaha and 536 to WMT radio in Waterloo. A small cash credit per strip funds the gifts.

Greene Ramblers dropped two games last week 47 36 to Rudd and 67 42 to St Ansgar. Ramblerettes beat Marble Rock 47 32. Junior High teams posted a 38 22 Greene boys win over Nora Springs and girls won 33 31 Marble Rock, while the varsity girls beat Marble Rock 49 32.
