Wartburg Christmas Program Draws Northeastern Iowa crowds

Wartburg College presents Christmas at Wartburg with two programs in Knights Gymnasium. On December 15 at 8 pm, over 200 faculty and students will present the Christmas story. Chi Rho will hold candle lighting on December 16 at 7 30 p m. Attendance is a northeastern Iowa tradition, with Herb Engelbrecht coordinating.

Wiegmanns Corn Harvested at Former Greene Farm

Relatives and neighbors gathered at Mrs. Wilbur Wiegmanns former Greene area farm to harvest her corn and her landlord Melvin Dreiers crop. Wiegmann was killed in a May auto crash. Her sons David Galen and Paul now live in Allison with Mrs. Wiegmann.

Christmas Party At Veterans Club

The American Legion Auxiliary meets at the Veterans Club on Wednesday evening December 18 for the annual Christmas party for veterans and families. Auxiliary members should bring cookies and a gift for a child. those with children bring cookies and a gift for each child. Extra gifts go to an orphan's home or veteran's hospital. Hospitalized veterans select gifts for their own children. The business meeting is at 7 30 with the program starting at 8 00.

Ramblers Lose Two Contests and Ramblerettes Split

The Ramblers dropped games to Tripoli and Rockford while the Ramblerettes beat Tripoli and fell to Rockford. Ramblers 49 31 loss to Tripoli. Ramblerettes opened season with a 40 31 win over Tripoli. Next, Ramblers tied Rockford 46 40 then lost 48 40. upcoming double-headers listed for Friday and Tuesday at Marble Rock and St Ansgar.

Rev Hoover on Program of P T A at Greene School

The Greene Community School P T A met in the auditorium on Wednesday evening December 4. Mrs. James Drake led Christmas carols and Kathy Parks read a Christmas piece. Iowa State Teachers College will present Rumpelstiltskin on December 13 and 14 with all roles by college actors. Rev Warren Hoover of Preston Minnesota shared slides from his West Germany trip on Heifers for Relief comparing farms and feeding. The January meeting is moved to January 8 with program Healthy Children are Happy Children.

Former Residents Return To Greene

Mr. and Mrs. William C. Moon sold their Washington D C home and will stay at the Hillegas apartments in Greene this weekend. Their daughters Berniece Culbertson and Shirley Schwartz are expected next week for a holiday visit from Washington D C. Their grandchildren Stephanie Culbertson and Billy Schwartz live with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Curtis while attending Greene Community School. Mrs. Schwartz will return to Washington D C the first week in January where she serves as secretary for Congressman Tollefson. Mrs. Culbertson leaves January 15 for Rochester Minnesota to work as an anesthetist in a hospital.

Butler Relocates to Oregon Nurses Change Posts

Miss Doris Butler daughter of Mr and Mrs Garth Butler recently moved to Eugene Oregon from Waterloo where she resigned after four years as a nurse at Shoitz Memorial hospital. She now serves on the medical floor of Sacred Heart hospital in Eugene.

L P Lyman Died In California Friday

L P Lyman 63 longtime Cedar Rapids Grand hotel restaurant operator died Friday in a Veterans hospital West Los Angeles after six weeks illness. Survived by two sons Hubert G. Lyman Cedar Rapids and L P Lyman Jr Whittier Calif. Wife Esther Meek Greene died two years ago and a son J B Lyman was killed in China in World War II. Services held Rose Hill Chapel Whittier Monday December 9. Lyman also ran the movie theater in Greene years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Sandgren Jr. of Lyle Minnesota shared their mission work plans for French Equatorial Africa during Calvary Baptist Church Sunday evening service. Mrs Sandgren taught six years in Grand Marais before attending Columbia Bible College. the couple and their three children will depart soon for Africa.

Three Won Pork Production Honors Named County Winners

Eugene Lindaman of Aplington and Lloyd E. Lacey with Harry Ott of Greene earned national pork production honors in Butler County. Lindaman's record included 202 pigs from 18 sows, 11.22 pigs per litter and 1.19 pounds daily gain. Lacey and Ott received the County Championship and a personal plaque at the Champions Recognition Dinner on the Iowa State College Campus.

Niehaus Welcomes Daughter Julie Lynn in Charles City

New residents Mr and Mrs Dean Niehaus of Oelwein announce the birth of a daughter named Julie Lynn on Saturday December 7 at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. Mrs Niehaus is the former Carol Weichers daughter of Mr and Mrs John Weichers of Greene. This is the first girl in the Niehaus family in 36 years.

John Mooberry Killed in Auto Accident South of Roseville

John G Mooberry 65 of Charles City died when his car struck a bridge two miles south of Roseville on December 4. He was returning home from Greene, reportedly asleep at the wheel. He operated Mooberry Cabins in Charles City and is survived by his wife, one son, two daughters, 14 grandchildren, and other relatives. Funeral services were held December 6 at Hauser Funeral Home and burial followed at Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Rites Held For Mrs Emma Nixt At Greene Church

Funeral services for Mrs Emma Nixt were held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Catholic Church in Greene with Rev P J Boyle officiating. Burial followed at St Mary's Cemetery in Greene. Nixt, born August 21 1885 on a farm near Marble Rock, was married in 1911 to Ave Nixt and spent most of her life on a Marble Rock area farm. She survived by four daughters, two brothers and three sisters, with numerous grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her husband and two sons preceded her in death.
