The Cub Scout Christmas party and Pack meeting will be held in the new elementary school gymnasium on Wednesday evening, December 13, at 7 30 o clock.
William C. Ritter, district forester, will be in the Allison ASC office December 21 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. for tree planting forestry information and wildlife preserves. He will provide details to comply with the 1962 Agricultural Conservation Program for government cost sharing. Mr. Ritter will also visit Charles City on December 20 and Osage on December 19 for those unable to attend in Allison.
V. J. Tatum joined about 60 administrators at a December conference on school problems sponsored by Iowa State University. Held at the State 4-H Camp near Boone, the event featured Dr Willard Goslin of George Peabody College as keynote on community schooling for continuing education, with focus on automation and adult retraining.
Donald Bartels long time Labor Department staffer in Washington has been reassigned to the Veterans Administration as a management analyst at Hines Veterans Hospital in Chicago. He and Mrs Bartels moved to Chicago on Saturday while their children Susan Jane and Steven visit grandparents Qoscar Bartels of Greene and Verna Smith of Clarksville.
On January 1 1962 a new social security tax rate applies to nine of ten workers. Earl T Johnson of the Water loo SSA office says employed pay 3 1 8 percent each for employee and employer, self employed 4 7 percent. Maximum earnings remain 4800. An employed earner at 4800 will pay 150 vs 144 in 1961. 12 cents more per weekly check. employer also 12 cents more. Self employed at 4800 pays 225.50 vs 216 yearly. Changes fund Kennedy era benefits including early 62 old age eligibility at 62 and higher monthly widows benefits plus survivor boosts and lower work tests for qualification.

Memorials from September 1 1961 to November 28 1961 honored Mrs Charles Miller John W Nevenhoven and Mrs Dick Tellinghuisen.
The State Conservation Commission reminds 8 000 licensed shotgun deer hunters that the bag limit is one deer of any age or sex. Shooting hours are 8 am to 4 pm, with no dogs, domestic animals, vehicles, aircraft or mechanical conveyances permitted. A metal seal with license number and year must be affixed to the carcass before transport. Return the hunt report card to avoid denial of future seasons.
Diane DeBerg daughter of Mr and Mrs Ted DeBerg of Bristow was one of two contestants receiving ratings at the sub district Farmers Grain Dealers Association speaking contest in Webster City on December 5. Her topic was The Iowa Farmer's Part in Making His Co operative More Effective. She later competed in the district contest at Iowa Falls on December 12. She is coached by Mrs Pamilla Smith of Greene High School English department.
A junior high party will be held Saturday night December 16 in the high school cafeteria from 7 30 to 10 00 p m. Sponsors are Mrs Barnhart Miss Zika Mr Eimers and Mr Timmer.
The Greene Commercial Club hosts holiday turkey drawings with three live draws this month. Winners from Saturday include Darlene Smith and Joe Downing among many others. two remaining drawings on December 16 and 22 at 8:00 pm. No purchase required to register for Turkey prizes. entries from participating stores collected for a December 23 merchandise drawing worth about $500. Free youth movies at Greene High School on December 16 and 23 at 2:30 pm, with Santa arriving about 3:45 pm on each event day.
Scotty Thompson will leave the Winnebago Council Boy Scouts of America January 1 to take the post of District Executive and Director of Camp with the Northeast Iowa Council based in Dubuque Iowa. He joined the Winnebago Council Executive Staff in May 1959 and served as advisor to the Council Camping and Activities Committee and Camp Director at the Winnebago Scout Reservation for three years. He also served as District Executive for the Twin Rivers District Mitchell and Floyd counties and the Butler District Butler county.
Howard Ellinger 51 of Cedar Falls died Thursday morning December 7 about 11 30 while driving on Highway 14. His car struck a bridge abutment a mile and a half north of Parkersburg. Ellinger was a former Parkersburg resident and Butler County's first 1961 traffic fatality.

The Church of Christ youth present a Christmas program Sunday at 8 00 pm narrated by Marvin Alexander. Living pictures of the Christmas Story feature primary and junior departments with a combined choir and special music by junior senior high and young adults. Directed by Marjorie and Dorothy Thomas on leave from Alaska mission work.
Galen Brinkman arrived home Saturday from Camp Carson Colorado where he has been stationed with the Army. He is visiting his wife Jerilyn Payne and his parents Mr and Mrs Theodore Brinkman. He will report to a base near Chicago at the conclusion of his furlough on January 2.
The annual Christmas concert will be held in the high school auditorium on Wednesday evening December 20 at 8 00 o'clock. Both vocal and instrumental numbers will be presented.
Mrs V E Sellers is slowly recovering from a fall that fractured a vertebrae. She has returned home following a two week stay with her daughter Mrs Dean Davis.
Mrs Andrew Reid of Greene was named chairman of a two pronged educational and fund raising Cancer Crusade for Butler County next April. Mrs Harry Miller of Shell Rock announced plans to make the event a major educational effort to place life saving literature in every Butler County home and reverse the rising cancer death trend through early detection and treatment.
George Koons, elementary principal, explains the Greene Community School elementary program. The self contained, 15 sections serve grades K to 6 with 405 students in six grades. Sections range 25 to 30 pupils. music and PE use specialist staff. weekly instructional minutes rise from 1,625 to 1,675 across grades 1 to 6. A summer reading program was offered last year.
Ramblers lose to Allison 64 to 60 in a tight game and set a Friday matchup with Rockford at home. The local Post Office will stay open until 5 PM Saturday December 16 to help residents with mailings.
Sheldon Winkowitch was fined 100 dollars plus costs for shooting a hen pheasant. The Ramblers suffered their first defeat of the season 64 to 60 at Allison, despite 21 from K Barth and 25 from Doug Marsh. Ramblerettes trailed 41 to 28 at the end on turnover or poor shooting. Upcoming games host Rockford Friday and Riceville Tuesday.

Mrs Ed Hanley, a Cedar Valley Hospital patient in Charles City since November 27, is expected to return home in about one week to ten days.
The closing dates run Friday December 15 for pheasant quail and Hungarian partridge at 430 pm squirrel at sunset and mink muskrat trapping at midnight with extensions to midnight December 31 on game management areas. Pheasant harvest is spotty though population is good quail shooting above average with common bag limits Hungarian partridge better in northeastern counties and a good squirrel season according to hunters. Rabbit season lasts until 6 pm February 18, 1962.
New residents Mr and Mrs Jerry L John son of Minneapolis Minnesota welcomed a son born November 29 weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces named Ronald Lee. Mr and Mrs Henry Kingery of Charles City welcomed a son born Monday December 11 at 10 45 pm weighing 6 pounds 13 1 4 ounces. Mr Kingery is son of Mr and Mrs Orval Kingery of Greene.
