The editor recalls Kemming's jump from a cellar spot in bowling last Wednesday, noting a sneaky method. Ross and Miller used all five of theirs while the day remains unsettled yet threatened. A cannibal with a jar labeled Instant People appears amid blame and national lag in missiles and rockets.
Dr N J Wardle from Iowa State College will address adult farmers about Farmers and Highway safety. He will speak and demonstrate with coffee and doughnuts served after the meeting. The session was moved from November 18 and will occur Monday December 9 at 8 00 p m.
James R. McLennan, 31, is appointed Standard Bulk Plant agent in Greene effective Tuesday December 3. A lifelong Greene resident, he is married with one son, James Allen, and lives in the southwest section. Headquarters will be at Majewski Standard Station with contact at his home. He went to Des Moines Monday and had the new Standard tank mounted on the truck.
Donald Eugene Schroeder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Schroeder, was baptized Sunday in the family home. Sponsors were grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schroeder and Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Johnson. Rev. G. F. Butler and Elder and Mrs. D. H. Ellis assisted. The Schroe ders recently moved into a home bought from Henry Dralle.
The December P T A meeting at Greene Community School tonight features Rev Warren Hoover of Preston Minnesota as guest speaker. He will present sea going cowboy photos and project Heifers for Relief in Europe while Christmas carols are sung and a Children’s Night reading by Kathy Parks. The event is open to the public with committees named for decorations and refreshments.
The Public Library announces new adult fiction including On The Beach by Nevil Shute, Mrs Daffodil by Fernanda Faber, The Gift and The Giver by White, and Fires on the Plain by Ooka. Other additions include Dandoline Wine by Bradbury, Pillar of Cloud by Burgess, Song of the River by Clark, Dunbars Cove by Deal, Natalie by Orme, My Own Story by Bamch, Half the Worlds Children by Keeny, Face to Face by Mehta, Bridge to the Sun by Terasaki, Interplay of East and West by Ward, Jackie Robinson by Shapiro, and Chief Black Hawk by Beckhard.
Officials of the Greene Commercial Club outline holiday events for residents. Free turkeys and hams will be given on December 11 14 18 and 21 with register at stores and 9 00 pm draw. Bicycles awarded December 14 and 21. Free shows December 7 14 and 21 at the Greene Community School auditorium starting 2 00 pm featuring multiple films. Santa visits December 14 and 21 with candy. Stores open December 16 through 23 evenings, 9 00 pm and 10 00 pm on Saturdays, close Christmas Eve at 5 00 pm.
Mr and Mrs Vonaiam McGee welcomed a daughter Brenda Lee born Thursday November 28 at Cedar Valley hospital Charles City weighing 9 pounds 3 ounces. Mr and Mrs Louis Rogers welcomed a daughter Vicki Lou born Thursday November 28 at Cedar Valley hospital Charles City weighing 9 pounds 2 14 ounces.
In Hospital Clarence Bockhaus of Waterloo is a patient in St Francis hospital there with pneumonia. Mrs Bockhaus is the former Marjorie Bowman of Greene. Walter Kyle underwent major surgery in Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City on Tuesday November 26, where he was taken on November 15 for treatment following the flu.

The Lion Den of Cub Scouts delivered boxes of fruit to four shut-ins on Tuesday November 26 under den mothers Mrs. Robert Mead and Mrs. Robert Fischer. Pack meeting followed Wednesday evening November 27 in the high school cafeteria with Bear Den puppet show on safety and various den awards including wolf badges and bear badges for several scouts.

Neighbors gathered at Paul Dralle’s home to harvest 30 acres of corn amid wet snow. Thirteen men plus Dralle worked over four hours with five tractors five corn pickers ten wagons and one elevator. women served meals.
Iowa’s 1957 shotgun deer season starts Saturday December 7 in all counties and runs through Sunday. Open to residents with special shotgun licenses, hunting is allowed daily 8 am to 4 pm with a bag and possession limit of one deer of either sex. Special deer tags must be attached before transport on highways. Farmers hunting on their land need no license but must tag deer for highway transport, tags available from the nearest conservation officer.
Mrs Emma Nixt of Marble Rock died Tuesday evening at Charles City Hospital after an ambulance transport on Sunday. Hamilton's Funeral Chapel handles arrangements pending.
A group of Butler County 4-H members arrived back in Greene Tuesday morning after a four day trip to Chicago. The yound people toured the Prudential Building Observation Deck, Chicago Board of Trade, Science and Industry, Chinatown, steel mills, and the International Livestock Exhibition. Award donors from Butler County funded the trip, including the Butler County Fair Board and numerous local businesses in Greene, Aplington, Dumont, Parkersburg, and Allison.

Iowa landowners from varied backgrounds join 20 new members in the American Tree Farm System. The 570 acre family operation and others bring Iowa to 54 certified tree farms totaling 1,360 acres, part of 3,556 acres enrolled statewide. The program, sponsored by state forestry groups and national sponsors, promotes good forest management at no cost to landowners.
Hamilton's Funeral Chapel undergoes a large remodeling project using lumber from the old horse barn to create a three stall garage and second floor display area. The ramp access allows indoor car entry to keep families dry. The upper area will offer seating and a sound system for services, boosting total seating beyond capacity. Pearl invites the public to inspect progress and offer suggestions.
Allison area residents can obtain free sick room equipment through the Amvets Auxiliary Post No 38 annual subscription drive. The effort targets sick disabled and bedfast individuals, offering portable wheelchairs beds rails walkers crutches and related items for temporary use at no charge. Deliveries are guaranteed and donations will not be solicited.

The Dubuque Archdiocesan chancery named Rev. Gerald Shekleton editor-in-chief of The Witness and temporary administrator of St. Philomena's near Dubuque, and Rev. Lowell J. Shekleton pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Fayette and St. Francis Xavier Hawkeye. Both are sons of E. T. and Mrs. Shekleton of Greene.
Mrs. Mary Barth, 89, died this morning at 6:80 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Geneva Martin. Survived by three daughters Mrs. Martin Greene Mrs. John Gorman Cedar Falls and Mrs. Donald Kingery Marble Rock and two sons Harry and Albert Greene. Funeral Friday December 8 at 2:00 PM at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with a prayer service at Williams Mortuary.
The Greene High School freshman class sponsors a party on Friday December 6 from 7 30 to 11 00 o clock in the lunch room. Norman Wolters and Mrs Ina Nichol are the sponsors.
Mrs C C Perrin will travel this winter with Mrs H E Rouse visiting Muamu Florida as headquarters. They will ride Pan American Clipper to San Juan Puerto Rico for Christmas then tour the Virgin Islands St Thomas St John and St Croix before flying to Antigua Fort de France Martinique and Guadeloupe. They will also visit St Lucia Barbados Grenada and Jamaica observing warm dry winters and tropical scenery.
