Wardle To Speak To Adult Farmers

Dr N J Wardle from Iowa State College will address adult farmers about Farmers and Highway safety. He will speak and demonstrate with coffee and doughnuts served after the meeting. The session was moved from November 18 and will occur Monday December 9 at 8 00 p m.

James McLennan Named Standard Bulk Agent for Greene

James R. McLennan, 31, is appointed Standard Bulk Plant agent in Greene effective Tuesday December 3. A lifelong Greene resident, he is married with one son, James Allen, and lives in the southwest section. Headquarters will be at Majewski Standard Station with contact at his home. He went to Des Moines Monday and had the new Standard tank mounted on the truck.

Baptism of Donald Eugene Schroeder at Family Home

Donald Eugene Schroeder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Schroeder, was baptized Sunday in the family home. Sponsors were grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schroeder and Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Johnson. Rev. G. F. Butler and Elder and Mrs. D. H. Ellis assisted. The Schroe ders recently moved into a home bought from Henry Dralle.

Rev Hoover to Speak At P T A Meeting Tonight

The December P T A meeting at Greene Community School tonight features Rev Warren Hoover of Preston Minnesota as guest speaker. He will present sea going cowboy photos and project Heifers for Relief in Europe while Christmas carols are sung and a Children’s Night reading by Kathy Parks. The event is open to the public with committees named for decorations and refreshments.

Greene Commercial Club Announces Holiday Giveaways

Officials of the Greene Commercial Club outline holiday events for residents. Free turkeys and hams will be given on December 11 14 18 and 21 with register at stores and 9 00 pm draw. Bicycles awarded December 14 and 21. Free shows December 7 14 and 21 at the Greene Community School auditorium starting 2 00 pm featuring multiple films. Santa visits December 14 and 21 with candy. In Hospital Clarence Bockhaus of Waterloo is a patient in St Francis hospital there with pneumonia. Mrs Bockhaus is the former Marjorie Bowman of Greene. Walter Kyle underwent major surgery in Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City on Tuesday November 26, where he was taken on November 15 for treatment following the flu.

Deer Season Opens December 7 in Iowa Counties

Iowa’s 1957 shotgun deer season starts Saturday December 7 in all counties and runs through Sunday. Open to residents with special shotgun licenses, hunting is allowed daily 8 am to 4 pm with a bag and possession limit of one deer of either sex. Special deer tags must be attached before transport on highways. Farmers hunting on their land need no license but must tag deer for highway transport, tags available from the nearest conservation officer.

Butler County 4-H Members Return From Chicago Trip

A group of Butler County 4-H members arrived back in Greene Tuesday morning after a four day trip to Chicago. The yound people toured the Prudential Building Observation Deck, Chicago Board of Trade, Science and Industry, Chinatown, steel mills, and the International Livestock Exhibition. Award donors from Butler County funded the trip, including the Butler County Fair Board and numerous local businesses in Greene, Aplington, Dumont, Parkersburg, and Allison.

Mrs Perrin Plans Winter Tour of Caribbean Islands

Mrs C C Perrin will travel this winter with Mrs H E Rouse visiting Muamu Florida as headquarters. They will ride Pan American Clipper to San Juan Puerto Rico for Christmas then tour the Virgin Islands St Thomas St John and St Croix before flying to Antigua Fort de France Martinique and Guadeloupe.
