Lyle Schmidtke age 40 of Greene was seriously hurt Monday night in a one vehicle collision at a farm to market road intersection with Highway 218 south of Nashua. His car crossed the highway into a deep ditch and was demolished. He was taken to a Nashua doctor and then Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City for concussion a fractured nose chest injuries and bruises. He works at the Carnation plant in Waverly.

Feed Grain Program Achieves National Participation Drop
In 1964 participation rose while farmers diverted a record 34.3 million acres to soil conserving uses, cutting feed grain production by an estimated 20 million tons from last year. Butler county diverted 38,153 acres, with Iowa totaling over 3% million acres. Dry weather reduced average yield about seven percent and harvested area fell 5 percent from 1963.

Mrs Abe Tack Died in Minnesota

Fractured Hip Leaves Elmhurst Woman Hospitalized
Mrs R J Priepke of Elmhurst Illinois fractured her hip in a fall and lay in snow over a half hour before discovery. Her sister Mrs R Nordmeyer Sr learned of the accident as Mr Priepke was in Oregon for a death in the family. The former Bertha Schluter, a Clarksville Greene teacher, is a patient at Memorial Hospital Elmhurst Room 117.

Rites Held for Dias H. Ellis 86 Former Bank President
Dias Henry Ellis 86 longtime First State Bank president died December 3 after a brief illness. Born October 11, 1878 in Warren County Iowa he graduated from Penn College in 1900 and studied law briefly. He served Greene banks and churches, held civic roles, and is survived by his wife Myrtle, one daughter and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held December 8 at the First Presbyterian Church with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
