Oscar McGee, 82, died Thursday at his home 446 Adams Street South Hutchinson Minnesota after more than a year of failing health. He owned Greene City Meat Market and ice business for many years and was active in livestock buying and selling with his own yards until retirement.

Two farm sales were announced in the Greene area. Mrs Phyllis Rottler and Miss Persis Pooley will host a sale southwest of Greene on December 9 with Uhlenhopp and Hilskoar as auctioneers. Vicar and Mrs Wendell Debner of Hebron Nebraska are parents of a daughter born Saturday November 28 weighing 7 pounds named Ann Margaret The paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Will Debner of Greene
A combined vocal and instrumental concert by elementary and junior high departments is set for Tuesday evening December 8 at 7 45 in the high school auditorium. Directed by Miss Bundy and Mr Holtz the program features elementary and junior high choruses the fifth grade beginners band the sixth grade cadet band and the junior high concert band. Refreshments will be served by the music mothers. Tickets are sold by music students or at the door. Everyone is urged to attend this first fine arts event of the season.
Mr and Mrs Bob Andersen of Pella announce the birth of their son on November 23. The infant weighed 8 pounds 14 ounces and has been named Mitchell Jon. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Wilson Ray and Dr and Mrs B V Andersen. the mother is Rosalind Ray.
Conrad Carl Lancelle aged 38 of Aplington was arrested in Aplington for false drawing and uttering of a check by the Sheriff’s Office in Allison. He pleaded guilty in Dean Wiegman's court and was sentenced to 30 days in the County Jail in Allison. The $1000 no account check was allegedly given to B and G Cities Service Station in Parkersburg.
The Greene Commercial Club plans two large merchandise drawings for adults on December 19 and 23 with over 35000 dollars in prizes. Register at member businesses. Free movies for Greene children on December 12 19 and 24 at the high school auditorium starting 2 PM Santa Claus will distribute treats after each show. Stores stay open evenings December 16 23 5 PM closes 5 PM Christmas Eve 24.
Superintendent V J Tatum says all weather related school closings will be announced on KGLO KWWL and KCHA stations serving Mason City Waterloo and Charles City. Families should not call school staff during storms as lines must stay open for emergencies. Students who ride the bus and will not return home must report to the principal with their destination.
Roy Curtis Bixler infant son of Mr and Mrs Robert Bixler of Evanston Wisconsin was baptized during morning worship at the First Presbyterian Church Sunday. Assisting the pastor Rev G F Butler was the child’s great grandfather Roy J Pooley. Mrs Bixler formerly Vickie Burroughs daughter of Mr and Mrs C E Burroughs.
Mrs. Margaret Cavanagh 81 died at home in Waterloo after a heart illness. Born 1883 in Greene, she taught music in Minnesota and North Dakota, married Dr James E Cavanagh in 1917, moved to Waterloo in 1946. Funeral at St Marys Greene with burial in St Marys Cemetery. Bruce Cheney to sing bass in Handel Messiah at State College of Iowa on December 13.
One hundred fifty two Girl Scouts and Camp Fire Girls will receive the Marian Award Medals at the annual awards ceremonies on Tuesday December 8 at St Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque. The St Anne Award Medal will go to an active adult leader. Archbishop James J. Byrne will preside and the sermon will be by Reverend Denis N Kuennen. Local girls Theresa Rutz Vallerie Rutz Ann Allison and Carolyn Kehoe from Greene are among the honorees.

Davfid Kock, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Kock, has returned home from the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City where he was a patient for several weeks receiving treatment for injuries from a car deer accident.
Holiday guests include Lillian Marsh of Manitowoc Wisconsin Mr and Mrs Dwight Marsh and Jimmy of Councils Bluffs and Kay Belknap of Des Moines staying with Mr and Mrs Gordon Wood from Wednesday through Sunday Thanksgiving guests were Mr and Mrs Dean Belknap of Conrad for dinner.
The Ramblers and Ramblerettes kept perfect records as Greene girls beat Nashua 77 to 56 and the Greene boys edged Nashua 48 to 45. Marsh led the girls with 43 points, Rottler 18, while Daryl Barnett sparked the boys with early scoring and guard Ott and Clapham contributed on defense and ball handling. Nashua’s Walsh hit 20 of 23 free throws for 32 points, but Greene controlled the boards and closed out after a late stall to preserve the wins.
Dennis Tack son of Mr and Mrs Harold Tack spent last weekend in Chicago Illinois after winning a Floyd County 4-H award night trip. A group of eighteen 4-H members and leaders traveled to Chicago on Thanksgiving day and returned Monday November 28. They toured major sites such as the International Livestock Exposition Prudential Building Museum of Science and Industry Field Museum the Merchandise Mart OHara International Airport and the Loop and Lakeshore Drive areas.
Mrs I J Deiies underwent surgery Tuesday morning December 1 at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. The report notes the procedure was routine and the patient is resting. Hospital officials said she is in stable condition and recovering in the post operative ward.
Greene Public Library suspends Saturday afternoon Story Hour in December. In October and November 65 children were registered with Mrs. Robert Fischer in charge.
The Greene Fire Department responded to two calls this week. A fire at the Don McBurney residence at 3.45 am Sunday was confined to an area under the kitchen floor and thought to stem from defective wiring with minor damage. At 9:00 am Tuesday a blaze at the B and W Food Market was caused by a furnace fuel overflow. immediate notice averted serious damage.
