Butler County Extension Council members will visit Iowa State University campus and research facilities next Tuesday August 30 to learn about university research and Extension Service offerings. Delegates include Ted DeBerg Bennedette Vernon Reints Eugene Maifeld Melvin Stoker and Reed Weinberg from various Butler County communities.
Three juveniles appeared with parents in Mayor Bamker's Court and pleaded guilty to intent to deface a motor vehicle. They were released on a suspended fine during good behavior.
The Friday afternoon Town and Country bowling league will meet Friday at 1 30 to reorganize for the new season. Beginners welcome and encouraged. Actual league bowling begins Friday September 2 at 1 30 p m.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Petter relocate to Kenosha Wisconsin this week. Mr Petter will teach industrial arts at Bradford Senior High School for the coming year.
A group of 55 4 H youths from Greene toured multiple plants in Eagle Grove and Iowa Falls on Friday. Guides Eldon Peterson and John Loebing led the trip, with drivers Mrs. Mehmen and Mrs. Harris. Sponsors were Farmer's Inc Coon Society and Boone Valley Coop.
Funeral services for 107 year old Mrs Emma Starkweather were held at the Rockford Methodist Church with Rev Byron Myers officiating. She died August 18 in the Rockford Convalescent Home after residence there since 1954. Survived by six step sons and several nieces and nephews.
Clifford Bishop of Greene attends a Retail Fieldmen's Short Course this week in Kansas City Missouri sponsored by Consumers Cooperative Association a manufacturing and wholesale cooperative serving over 1750 local cooperatives including Farmers Inc Coop Society where Bishop is employed.

At the State Fair the Conservation Exhibit Building hosts booths where hunters and boaters learn about hunting season dates bag limits and regulations for Iowa waterfowl and upland game. New federal boat ventilation rules are available at the Water Safety Booth with copies for boat owners.
The Greene Quarterback Club will hold its first meeting next Tuesday evening August 30 at 8:00 in the high school cafeteria. All past Quarterback Club members and others interested are invited to attend.
A Monday junior golf event at Round Grove Golf and Country Club drew eighteen local players. In high school boys Greg Drakle 42 won, Karl Sneed 45 runner up, Wendell Stuntz 47 third. Mary Bottler won girls with 47. Junior high boys Dick Stuntz 45, Jack Majewski 53. junior high girls Melinda Drakle 58, Patricia Rutz 66, Susan Maxson 70. peewee Bob Weyand 76.

Over 40,000 feet of pipe laid in Greene since work began, with natural gas pressure lines now in over two thirds of the city and completion on the east side imminent.
Mr and Mrs William Steere Jr Marilyn Harlan Marcia and Peggy returned home Tuesday evening after visiting their son and brother Sp 4 Charles W Steere at Fort Carson Colorado On Monday evening they visited Mr and Mrs Herman Lampman at Blue Gill Nebraska.
Mr and Mrs Nelson Hart returned to their Indio California home last week after five weeks visiting relatives and friends in Greene and Aredale communities.
The Greene Sportsman's Club will hold its annual fish fry Friday evening August 26 at Greene High School Auditorium. Serving starts 6 30 pm featuring walleyes French fries coleslaw rolls ice cream and coffee or milk. Tickets are all you can eat with a prize drawing at closing donated by local businesses and individuals and by wholesalers and manufacturers. Three door prizes will be awarded. For tickets or to volunteer contact Bill Walker or other local supporters.
The Greene Jaycees sponsor a teen hop on Saturday evening, August 27 at 8:00 at the high school auditorium. The Prophets Inc will provide the music. Shorts and blue jeans will be allowed.
Julio R Cueha from San Rafael Paraguay, 23, will spend three weeks in Butler County Iowa, living at the Lowell Allen farm near Greene. As part of the IFYE program, he will observe 4-H club work and rural community activities while hosted by five Iowa families during his stay from August 28 to September 1.
Mr and Mrs Harold Allison and family return from a ten day vacation. They attended the profession of their daughter Sister Sean Marie at Mount St. Clare Convent in Clinton on Friday August 12. They spent the rest of the time sightseeing in northern Minnesota and Canada.
The Greene Community Schools will open for the 1966 67 school year next Monday morning August 29. Children attend classes all day first day. Buses pick up rural children at 7 45 a m and depart school about 3 50 p m. New music teacher Harold J Blosser earned Goshen College degree and a master’s at University of Iowa.

Butler County displays at Mason City fair earned six blue ribbons and two red. Blue winners include Pam Brouwer Aplington for sleeveless dress, Margaret Johnson Clarksville for pajamas, Marcia Behnke Greene for blouse, Nancy Burma Allison for one piece play clothes, Marilyn Lindaman Aplington for Textiles and Clothing Why, and the Self-Determined Projects booth. Red winners are Marcay Burma Allison for sleeveless shift dress and Mari Reiher Allison for dress for better wear.
In Canada Mr and Mrs C M Frodden with grandchildren David and Anne Templeman of Des Moines are spending a mid August holiday at Minaki Lodge a historic resort on the Winnipeg River in northwestern Ontario Minaki Ontario Canada.

Mrs A Richards returns to England by plane from Chicago to her home in Clapham Bedfordshire England after spending three months in Greene visiting her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Orville Stewart and family.
Northwest Trin reports Mr and Mrs Eldred Mather returned home last Tuesday afternoon from a vacation trip. They visited the Howard Beguelin home near Portland Oregon and relatives at Yakima and Clarkston Washington. They also visited Lake Louise and the Banff area Winnipeg Manitoba Kenora Ontario and fished on Lake of the Woods for a few days.
Butler County 4-H members must submit entry forms now for the Iowa 4-H Dairy Exposition on September 23 24 in Waterloo with prizes over 6000. Exposition judging is September 24 with 500 expected attendees at a luncheon. entries due by noon September 23 and September 1 for various contests. The ASC county committee elections will be August 27 1966 in Allison with changes to elect all community members, 8 year terms, three consecutive terms limit, and annual chair and vice chair selections. Eligibility requires resident voters in the county and farming involvement. decisions on eligibility rest with the incumbent county committee subject to State Committee appeal. Programs aim to conserve and raise farm returns via price supports market management and payments.
Richard Lindall underwent foot surgery in Mason City last Friday and is recovering at his parents home, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lindell.
The Third District of the National Farmers Organization will hold its annual meeting at Labor Temple in Charles City on Thursday evening September 1. Registration runs 7 to 8 p.m. with National NFO Director Jim Stewart of Columbus Junction speaking at 8:30 p.m. The district includes Butler Floyd Mitchell Chickasaw and Cerro Gordo counties. NFC members from the fifth district join to select committee members for the Des Moines convention September 8 and the Milwaukee national convention later this year. Floyd County NFO Woman's Auxiliary will provide lunch during the social hour followed by speeches from U S Congress candidates H R Gross Henry J Stoffer and Lawrence Touchne.
Mr and Mrs V J Tatum returned home Saturday from a two week vacation in Minnesota They spent one week at Wilderness Point and the second week with their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Lynn Glass of Cedar Rapids at Long Boy Resort in Hackensack Minnesota.

In Hospital Bill Senne underwent surgery on Friday morning at the St. Joseph Mercy hospital in Waverly.
Seamen Gordon A. Sneed and John L. Stock start nine weeks of basic training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego California. They study Naval customs courtesies and organization ordnance and gunnery seamanship damage control first aid swimming and survival shipboard drills and sentry duty. A program of physical fitness military drill and inspections keeps them alert while their Navy Classification tests will determine post graduation assignments to a school shore station or ship.
