The community bids farewell to Ralph Petters and family as they move to Kenosha for teaching. Elaine Petters brings skill in cooking and warmth to neighbors. The dam project at the park dock area advances boating but is slowed by delays in concrete pouring.
Sister Sean Marie Allison daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Allison Greene made first profession of vows at Mount St. Clare Convent Clinton on August 12 joining 12 sisters in temporary vows and 7 in perpetual vows retreat master Rev Benno M Heidlage of Duns Scotus College Southfield Michigan said the religious life is not a life of privation but one of sustained service.
A teen hop will be held at the country club on Friday from 8:30 to 11:30. Chaperones are Mr and Mrs Jim Drake, Mr and Mrs Sam Sneed, and Mr and Mrs Martin Senne. Disc jockey Roger Burke of Waterloo will provide music.
Mr. and Mrs. James H Graven returned August 6 after a five week trip to Norway Sweden Denmark and Holland. They visited birthplaces of relatives in Kragera Granvin Bergen and Oslo and joined a group tour July 12 followed by time in Holland. They praised Norway fjords Swedish lakes and Danish thatched roofs noting Dutch land reclamation and abundant flowers.
Rev. Charles Nichols, Baptist Mid Missions appointee to Brazil, will address Calvary Baptist Church on Thursday August 18 at 7 45 p m. He will show colored slides during the evening service. Nichols and his wife Joan are alumni of Omaha Baptist Bible College and Black Hills State College. He formerly led Bible Baptist Fellowship Dunlap for 18 months and First Baptist Spearfish for 7 1/2 years. Public invited to hear about the mission field.
Mae S Barr 72 died Monday of a heart attack at her daughter’s home in Waterloo She was born July 15 1894 in Marble Rock to Joseph and Frances Wiloth and married Guy C Barr Oct 4 1912 They lived in Marble Rock until his death about 15 years ago then moved to Waterloo Survivors include three daughters a brother five grandchildren and four great grandchildren Funeral services were held today at Parrott and Wood Funeral Home Burial was in Hillside Cemetery Marble Rock Rev C Wayne Overholser officiated
In Germany Mr and Mrs Wayne Thomason report their son Terry arrived at Wackerhime on August 4 for an 18 month assignment. A Greene Community High School graduate of 1965, he joined the army March 1 1966 and trained at Fort Rucker Alabama. His new address is Pvt Terry A Thomason US 55888724 H Q Btry 1st Bn 81st Artillery APO New York 09185.
The September 1966 term of the District Court of Butler County will convene on September 8 in Allison with Judge John F. Stone of Mason City Iowa presiding. Trial jurors will appear October 3 at 10 00 am. A township list of prospective jurors includes Albion Beaver Bennedette Butler Coldwater Dayton Fremont Jackson Jefferson Madison Monroe Pittsford Ripley Shell Rock Washington West Point and their residents.
Mr and Mrs Jim Foss of Edmonds Washington announce the birth of a son on Friday August 12 weighing 9 pounds 1 ounce Mrs Foss is Marilyn Hansen daughter of Mr and Mrs Harley Hansen The baby will be welcomed home by two sisters Dawn Michelle
Bill Walker, longtime B and W Greene manager now moves to head the B and W Food Stores of North Town effective September 1. Marvin Nelson, six year B and W veteran, is promoted to Greene store manager on the same date. Walker, a Hampton native and World War II veteran, has driven local store growth from a single front to a triple front and is linked to six children. Nelson, Lennox native, married to Nan Phillips, and father of four, has worked in B and W meat departments since 1962 and previously managed Foley’s in Lennox. Both families relocate. Walker’s to 321 3rd Street NW, Hampton.
The Greene Sportsman's Club hosts its annual fish fry Friday evening August 26 at the high school auditorium with serving starting at 6 30. Tickets are all you can eat featuring walleyes fries coleslaw rolls ice cream and beverages. Prizes from local businesses and professionals will be drawn after all are served, plus three club door prizes at the end. Tickets available from club members or local businesses.
The regular election for two seats on the Greene Community School District Board will be held September 12, 1966 from 12 noon to 7 p.m. at the high school gym lobby. Incumbents Ivan Schafer and John Van Eschen may run again. nominees must be district residents and file by September 2, 1966 with at least 10 electors' signatures.

In Hospital Floyd Piddick, who had been a patient in St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Mason City, underwent surgery Friday.
Bert Edwards 73 of Hampton died August 3rd at Franklin County General Hospital Hampton from a heart attack He was born February 27 1893 in Leland Illinois and moved to Hampton as a child He married Ina Riggins September 4 1919 at Marble Rock They farmed in Dougherty until retirement to Hamerton 18 years ago Survivors include Ina wife one son Dean Dougherty three grandchildren Mrs Tewin Setzer Nevada Dennis Edwards and Steve Edwards Dougherty six sisters and one brother He was preceded by his parents one son Dale in infancy one brother and one sister Funeral services were August 6 at the Baptist Church in Hampton Burial was in West Fork Cemetery near Dougherty
The Greene Community Schools will begin the 1966 67 term on Monday August 29 with a full day of classes The first holiday is Labor Day September 5 Registration guidance and bus routes are listed by the Greene Recorder Book rental fees kindergarten through sixth grade 4 00 seventh through twelfth 6 50 plus lunch tickets are available Milk will be provided in the elementary schools The district cautions on rising lunch prices and reduced food from the federal government Parents are urged to register students Monday and Tuesday August 22 23 and to pick up or receive lunch tickets and bus route information for 1966 67
Mrs Pete Timmer received her Master of Arts Degree at the University of Iowa convocation in the Fieldhouse Iowa City on Wednesday August 10. She offered a recital on August 8 featuring arias by Bach Handel Haydn Mozart songs by Richard Strauss Verdi Carpenter and English pieces. The Timmer couple previously taught in Greene Community School and will join Allison Bristow school as music and science instructors next year.
Marvin Miller of Greene attended a Special Iowa Fertilizer course in Kansas City Missouri last week. The course, presented to local cooperative employees by Iowa State University staff and CCA fertilizer division, is sponsored by Consumers Cooperative Association.
Construction workers lay the main distribution line for Peoples Natural Gas as the system nears completion on the east side of the river. Wayne Ritter had an emergency appendectomy Sunday afternoon at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City, per local report.
Iowa hunters must submit 1966 shotgun deer hunt licenses to the State Conservation Commission in Des Moines by 1:30 p.m. CDT on August 19. As of August 10, 528 of 3,000 short zone and 6,305 of 25,000 long zone shotgun licenses have applications. Hunters may apply for bow and arrow licenses without a cap. 287 bowmen had applied by August 10.
