Clarence Eugene Hovenga a 22 year old from Aplington appeared in district court Friday August 19 and pleaded guilty to two charges operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and driving while license suspended. Judge Boyton imposed 300 dollar fine for the DUI and 100 dollar fine for the license suspension. He was arrested July 23 in Shell Rock by city police and paid the fine and costs.
Superintendent Tatum outlines the coming term plan due to a wet spring delaying the elementary building. All kindergarten through sixth grade students will relocate to the High School for openings with October 1 as the target occupancy date and detailed room assignments for grades 1 through 6.

Laura Willey 83 lifelong Greene resident died August eighteenth in Marble Rock after a long illness. Survived by son Vern Willey Greene three grandchildren ten great grandchildren and brother Charles Couse Greene. Funeral services Sunday at 2 at Hamilton's Funeral Chapel with Rev G F Butler. Eight year old Lyle Williamson, son of Mr and Mrs George Williamson, was slightly injured Friday night at 9 15 on Highway 14 west of the Shell Rock River bridge Greene when he ran behind one car into the path of another driven by Richard Paul Case of Colfax. He was taken to the doctor in Greene and later released to his home.
Visitors and residents coped with Ridiculous Day in Greene last Friday as a merchants parade started with two distinguished gentlemen Madam Bucky Trees and Cave Man Jackson. Flapper Fannie Shultz and Dapper Dias Ellis added to the whimsy as part of the crowd pleasing characters.

The Greene town committee seeks a Director of Activities to schedule Youth Center events, maintain the calendar, and manage opening and closing. Applications due to Mayor Calvin Kelly before September 1. The center welcomes any group while honoring the Youth Center schedule. no charge, voluntary maintenance contributions last year.
Douglas Becker arrived Monday for a ten day furlough at the home of his parents Rev. and Mrs. Clayton Becker. He recently returned to the United States after 22 months in Argentia Newfoundland and will report to the training center at Sanford Florida following his furlough.
George Koons of Greene Iowa is among about 340 seniors and graduates slated to receive bachelor and master degrees at Drake University's summer commencement. The ceremony is Friday August 26 at 8 p.m. in the Drake Field House, Des Moines. Koons is a candidate for the Master of Science in Education in the graduate division, with a major in general school administration.
Ten neighbors and friends visited Mrs Tony Junker’s farm on Monday afternoon and mowed her soil bank land. Larry Williamson of Greene joined the Navy and was sworn in at Minneapolis last Wednesday. He will begin basic training at Camp Barry near Waukegan Illinois.
Under Iowa law the Greene Community School District will hold elections September 12 in the gym lobby from noon to 7 pm. Terms for Walter Gabe and Dr. Bruce Andersen end September 19. both may seek re election. Nominations due September 2 by noon to secretary Betty Brunsma. Gabe’s nominees must reside in Union and Pleasant Grove Townships, Andersen’s in the former Greene Independent School District. All Greene Community voters may participate.
Kristin Kay Butler daughter of Paul and Shirley Hammel Butler was killed instantly when a truck driven by her father ran over her on August 17 196? at 3 45 pm. She was born March 24 1959 in Charles City and was 16 months 23 days old. Survivors include her parents a brother Phillip grandparents Garth Butler Pearl Hammel Albert Hammel great grandmother Cora Wright Nashua great grandfather Bernice Butler Nashua. Funeral at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev George Knutson and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Hamiltons Funeral Chapel in charge.
Lawrence Paplow was admitted to St Mary's Hospital in Rochester Minnesota for treatment on Thursday. His address listed as Room 268 2nd Floor St Mary Hospital Rochester Minnesota.
Mr and Mrs Ernest DeBowers received injuries in a freak accident near Bristow last Wednesday morning when Mrs DeBower driving crossed railroad tracks. The car caught the second rail and stopped. Mrs DeBower had loosened front teeth and Mr DeBower suffered a bruised head from the windshield. Vehicle damage totaled 400 dollars.

A three car crash and a two car crash occurred within fifteen minutes west of Allison on Highway No 3 Friday August 19 at about 345 p m. Louis Holbach and Delbert Schuster each caused damage and received summons for not stopping at an assured distance ahead. A third collision involved Gerrit Jansma who struck the deputy sheriff’s car after sliding 200 feet. Jansma Schuster and Schultz appeared in JP Court with fines ranging from five to ten dollars.
Hamilton College in Mason City held its fifty eighth annual commencement Sunday afternoon at 3 00 pm at the Wesley Methodist Church. Graduates include Larry Kramer Greene Fligh School 1938, now owner of Kramer Furniture Store. Wilma J Litterer 1958 Greene High School, now stenographic graduate with Metropolitan Life Insurance Cedar Rapids. Duane G Tiemens 1957 Greene High School, now executive accounting graduate with Robert C Blythe C P A Tama office.
Greene F F A plans a corn topping project to improve road safety as farmers cooperate. Two teams will top corn 45 rows deep, cutting above the car line, on Saturday August 27. The team with the most corn topped earns watermelon treats from the other group.
