In Greene this Friday August 19 merchants stage Ridiculous Day with bargains and activities. Stores open 9 AM to 9 PM and Main Street hosts rides dunk tank and skill stands for kids and adults. Dress cool and comfortable for the informal carnival like sale day.
A July-August town spoof promises a Crazy Day on Friday August 19 with playful acts. Merchants face dunkings as council critiqued neglecting spring baths amid hot days. Mr. and Mrs. James McLennan and Mrs. Glen Truex spent Monday night with Mrs. Nora Scott in Des Moines. Truex remained a week with her sister. The McLennans traveled to Omaha Nebraska Tuesday and Wednesday and stayed in Kansas City from Thursday to Monday as guests of Standard Oil.
Returned to Camp Roland Ray left Monday evening for Norfolk Virginia following a 15 day leave in the home of his parents Mr and Mrs Wilson Ray Roland has just completed a metalsmith school at San Diego California and will now be based on a submarine tender at Norfolk.
Youth Center to sponsor a teen hop at the high school gymnasium from 8 to 11 p m on Saturday August 20. The event invites high school through college students and will have parents as chaperones.
Annette Green daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Green will leave for Nassau Bahamas August 22 for a year teaching in the parish school system. She will be joined by college classmate Mary Scepanski of Independence Wisconsin who will also teach. Annette has completed two years of college after attending St Teresa College in Winona Minnesota and last year at the State University of Iowa.

Results from the City Golf Tournament show second round wins by Chuck Teeple over Martin Senne, Jim Mead over Larry Finnell, and Clyde Stuntz over Bud Burma. In the third round Keith Drakle beat Mike Potter, Don Bachman defeated Bob Curtis, Sam Sneed bested Al Kalt, Paul Hamilton won against Stan Roose Jr, Dr D Drees beat Norman Wolters, and Clyde Stuntz again defeated Dell Curtis.
Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Sperry arrived home Sunday after a three week tour of California and the West. They visited relatives in Turlock Palo Alto and Mountain View attending a reunion at CC Hall’s home. Flight Student Lieutenant and Mrs Curtis Kyhl reside in Ozark Alabama where he trains at Fort Rucker in the Officers Primary Fixed Wing Course. Mrs Kyhl is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Everett Squires.

Mr and Mrs Willis Sperry and family departed from San Francisco on August 4 for Honolulu Hawaii. Sperry will teach science at a private school there this coming year on a year’s leave of absence from the Palo Alto School system.
In Hospital Scott Ray, 15 month old son of Mr and Mrs Harold Williams, was taken to Iowa City on Tuesday, August 9, where he is responding to treatment for a blood condition. He is a patient in the Pediatric Hospital. Mrs Harry Downs is a patient in St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Mason City where she remains in serious condition.
Greene Community Schools will open September 6 for the 1960 61 year. The faculty will be reduced by three due to the new elementary plant occupancy. Naner Needham daughter of Mr and Mrs Floyd Needham is a patient at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines undergoing observation and treatment for an infection.

Rev. and Mrs. James Parks and their family returned Tuesday morning from Springfield Missouri after Rev. Parks attended the Southern Missouri District Conference of the Church of the Brethren. He spoke Sunday afternoon and plans to move as he assumes pastorate of the Good Shepherd Church of the Brethren in Springfield on September 1.
