E. Johnson returned home Sunday from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City where he was treated for several days.
Vance Kara, chairman of the Butler County Red Cross swimming program, released the names of Greene area students who completed and passed in their classes at the Parkersburg pool. Junior lifesaving graduates included Craig Cheney, Robert Kanter, Diane Barnhart, and Greg Drakle. Diane Cheney and Martha Stuntz passed senior lifesaving. intermediate graduates were Larry Eimers, Jerry Ennen, Clyde Grey, Bill Landers, Myrna and Russell Landers, Gordon and Karl Sneed, and Danny Van Raden. Beginners passing were Terry Curtis, Danny and David Eimers, David Fischer, Arlene Landers, Kenny Wunsch, Marc and Marty Majewski, Sharon Poppe, Lynette Shaffer, Becky Smith, Calvin Shultz, Jerry Shultz, Robert Shultz, Anne Voigts, Tom Anderson, Becky Bellows, Gary and Jim Kanter, Kim Knighten, Lynn Miller, Mary Kate McRoberts, and Lyle Williamson.
The summer lesson tennis tournament hosted by Sara Green begins Monday in Perrin Park. Boys singles start at 3:00 am Monday, girls singles at 9:00 am Tuesday with possible finals Wednesday. Only singles events are played.
Dan Stubbe son of Mr and Mrs Herman Stubbe is on leave from the Navy. He is spending time with his parents while attending Sonar School at MIEWSPAPET sHHUHIVF.
Herman Stubbe, Chairman of the ASCS County Committee, announced 1963 corn price support will average $1.00 per bushel in Butler County, plus a uniform 18 cent per bushel special price support payment, totaling $1.18 per bushel. Loans and purchase agreements are available through May 31, 1964, with loans maturing July 31, 1964, and all 1963 crop production from participating farms eligible for the price support loan.
The Women s City Bowling Association will hold its annual meeting Tuesday evening August 27 at Greene Lanes starting at 7 30 p m and all members are urged to attend.
Georgian Downs with several accordion students returned from Omaha Nebraska after competing in the Mid America Music Association contest. Janet Hobert and Ellen Downing earned superior ratings while Betty Gersema Christa Ann Klein Schmidt earned excellent ratings and Marlys Rodman earned a very good rating.
The Allison Cats beat Osage 8 to 4 and New Hampton 3 to 1 to reach the double elimination State American Amateur Baseball Association tournament finals at Osage. Star White struck out 14 New Hampton batters, while Larry Burroughs led in hits. The winner advances to face Denver for the state crown with two wins needed in the three remaining games.
At the sixty first annual Hamilton College commencement in Mason City on Sunday afternoon Greene residents Melinda Andrews and Caroline M Ellis along with Sue Clapham and Verna Hildebrand completed business college programs. Andrews earned junior machines, Ellis senior machines, Clapham stenographic, and Hildebrand junior secretarial coursework.
Weekly county vehicle registrations show owners including Henry Frericks of Shell Rock and Sheryl Greninga of Ackley with Chevrolet and Plymouth entries. Sister Mary Carla formerly Dolores Popes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Popes of Grundy Center, will take temporary vows August 22 at St. Columbskil Church in Dubuque. She joined Mt. Loretta in 1960 after Nashua High School graduation. ceremony at 12 noon DST. Family once resided in Greene and Nashua. relatives invited.
Randy Majewski and Jimmie McLennan, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Melo Majewski and Mr. and Mrs. Jim McLennan, underwent tonsilectomies at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Tuesday morning and are expected to return home Wednesday.
Mr and Mrs Sam ry Frenchs welcomed a son Bryan Jee born at Charles City on Wednesday August 14 weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces. They returned home Saturday. Mr and Mrs John Ahlquist of North Street Minnesota are parents of daughter Denise Carol born Monday August 19 19th weighed 13 ounces. Mrs Ahlquist formerly Carol Hammel of Greene. Mr and Mrs Lee Bartels of Wyoming Iowa are parents of a son born Tuesday August 13 weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces named K Allen. Mr and Mrs Evin Uhlenhopp are parents of a son Bradley Lee born Thursday August 15 at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City weighing 9 pounds 14 ounces.
A stag supper will be held at the Country Club next Tuesday evening August 27. Committee members include Galen Lindell Burt Burton Dale Johnson Don Lester Chuck Teeple Charles Nichol Jack Sandy and Charles Stanton.
Local realtor Calvin Kelly announces Mr and Mrs Herman Roeder purchased the Richard Wunzoner property on the north edge of Greene and moved in last week.
Greene Community School conducts the annual school board election on September 9, 1963. Polls open noon to 7 pm in the high school gym lobby. Nominations require backing by 10 qualified electors, notarized forms due by August 30 noon. Two three year seats available, currently held by Dr. B V Andersen and Walter Gabe, who are not candidates. All district residents may nominate and vote, with residency in the represented area required.
The Teen Hop set for Friday evening August 23 at the Country Club is cancelled. It will be held Friday evening September 6 at the same venue.
Walter Kemmuing was discharged to home Monday after a four week stay as a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Town City.
About 1,134 workers in Butler County non farming businesses earned taxable wages under Social Security during the first quarter of 1962. 342 reporting units paid out some $840,000 in wages in the county. The current County Business Patterns is the tenth edition in the series.
Audrey Starkweather announces she sold her half interest in the Greene Cafe to her partner Carol Shultz. The transaction took effect Monday, August 19. Starkweather and Shultz purchased the Greene Cafe from Merle Heckman on January 31, 1949. The business will continue under the same name Greene Cafe.
Judge Henry Graven underwent back disc removal surgery Monday morning at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. The procedure was described as routine with no complications reported.
Milo Muhlenbruck, coach of freshmen football, announces all freshmen must report to practice. Sessions run at 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. Players should obtain physicals from Dr. MacLeod or Dr. Andersen.
Charolet Fare Stubbe, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben Stubbe of near Aredale, will graduate from Methodist Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester Minnesota on Sunday August 26 after three years as a student there.
Mr and Mrs James McMahon of Santa Barbara California announce the birth of a son named Donald James McMahon born Tuesday August 14 weighing 7 pounds 6 ounces. He is the son of the former Jerry Masson and Lyle Maxson Greene. Mr and Mrs Dennis Wunsch announce a daughter named Lynette Marie born Friday morning August 16 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 7 pounds 11 ounces. The mother and baby returned home Sunday morning.
Greene County stores host Sidewalk Days with a pet parade Friday and Saturday. Children from pre school to 13 may register at participating stores for two ponies and two bicycles with drawings at 4:00 pm Friday for the pony and 4:00 pm Saturday for the bicycle. An adult Mad Money drawing follows at 9:15 pm Saturday.

Harry Barth and Darrell Barth joined about 7,000 dealers and dealership executives in Detroit for the largest auto industry convention of its kind. The event featured previews of five 1964 Chevrolet trucks arriving this fall and a display of new vehicles and engineering exhibits at Cobo Hall's two acre exposition area.

The annual south Golf Tournament was hosted at the Country Club on Monday featuring nine girls and twenty boys. Pee-wee winners: Meinda Dralle 64, Amn Weyand 94, Dick Stunts 54, Larry Lester 54, Tom Heieirth 56. Junior high: Mary Rottler 60, Marcelyn Curtis and Ann Allison tied 64, Greg Drakle 49, Larry Eimers 52, Tom Truitt 34. Senior high girls: Reta McKinley and Martha Stuntz tied 53, Pes Willey third. Senior boys: Al John McRoberts, Jim Drake, Mike Majewski 46 each in 2-hole playoff first, second, third.
