Butler County Department of Social Welfare seeks a new Foster Home Program due to immediate need. Foster family homes provide care for nonrelated children for a limited time, emphasizing physical, emotional, spiritual, and social growth within a normal family setting.
The following rural schools will be in operation in Butler County this fall Fremont No 4 and Fremont No 8 and Austinville Independent. Teachers include Mrs Ringleb at Fremont No 4 Mrs Hearn and Mrs Goldhorn at Austinville School and Miss Georgian Downs at Fremont No 8 Start date varies by district
Captain Donald and Mrs Neely with family left Sunday for Bet tendorf to visit Mr Neelys mother. They will fly Thursday to Braconne where Rev Neely serves as U S Army chaplain. The trip follows the death of Mrs Neelys father Leslie K Barnhart.
Jim Marshall of Greene won a first in the Third Heat and a second in the Semi Main at Nashua stock car races on Saturday evening, finishing fifth in the Featured event.
The September term of the District Court of Butler County convenes on September 10th 1964 with Hon John F Stone of Mason City presiding Trial jurors are drawn and to appear September 29th 1964 at 10 am The list by township includes Albion Beaver Bennevette Butler Coldwater Dayton Fremont Jackson Jefferson Madison Monroe Pittsford Ripley Shell Rock Washington West Point and many residents named.
Cliff Fischer suffered a heart attack Saturday night and is a patient at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, where doctors expect at least three weeks of recovery.
Mr and Mrs Leroy V Kingery plan a two year teaching assignment in West Africa. They will first visit relatives in Elizabethtown Pennsylvania after leaving their home on Monday. They depart the United States on September 4 for Kaduna Nigeria where Mr Kingery will teach science and Mrs Kingery will teach business at the African Government School.
The last family picnic of the season will be held at Round Grove Golf and Country Club on Thursday evening. Hosts include Mr and Mrs Lewis M ajyewski and Mr and Mrs Max Heidenwirth.
Everett F. Squires of rural Greene was named by State Director Gene L. Hoffman of Des Moines to a three year term as a director on the Butler County Farmers Home Administration Committee. He succeeds Fred F. Bruns of Dumont and is active in agricultural circles. Other members include Harold B. Sutton of Shell Rock, chairman, and John J. Backer of Greene.
Mr and Mrs Jack D Shultz welcome Daniel Jay born July 31 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 6 pounds 13 ounces. Mr and Mrs Glen Skillen Greene greet son Jason Verne born Saturday August 15 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces. The Skillens also have son David at home. Grandparents are Mrs Sarah Schoolcraft and Mr and Mrs Clyde Skillen.
Town and Country Teague plans a business meeting on August 28 at 1 30 p m. The session will be held at the Greene Lanes with agenda items including local civic matters and community planning updates.
The State Conservation Commission issued trapping seasons and rules for 1964 65. Trappers must use trap tags with owner name and address. License fees are one dollar for under sixteen residents and three dollars for residents sixteen and older. Mink season runs Nov 14 1964 to Nov 30 1964, muskrat through Jan 21 1965, beaver badger skunk civet cat and opossum through Feb 28 1965, and raccoon through Feb 28 1965.
Donald Bachman 39 of De Witt is hired as principal of Janesville School for the coming year. A former Greene High principal, he holds a B.A. in Industrial Arts and Driver Education from Iowa State Teachers College and an M.A. in Industrial Arts and Education from Colorado State College. He is pursuing an administration degree at the State College of Iowa.
Airman Third Class Michael Brunsma spends furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs B G Brunsma and family. He is stationed at Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls Oregon.
Two new leaflets from Iowa State University specialists aid Butler County farmers facing drought damage. Kay Connelly, county extension director, notes many questions about nitrate poisoning and handling of drought damaged crops. Leaflets cover ensiling and feeding dried corn and preventing nitrate poisoning. available at the County Extension Office in Allison.
Greene Commercial Club sponsors a Doll and Pet Parade and races for Greene county children Saturday evening starting at 7 30 on Main Street. Prizes awarded for top three in bicycle sack and parade events with separate age groups for boys and girls and free ice cream after the races. A bean guessing contest runs until Friday at 5 30 with a $20 prize to be drawn Saturday alongside the Greene Buck drawing.
Paul Grendler son of Mr and Mrs August Grendler Greene received his Ph D in History from the University of Wisconsin in July after completing his dissertation on the Italian Renaissance. He will be a Lecturer in the History Department at the University of Toronto in September and is spending the summer in Chicago with a Newberry Library stipend for further Italian Renaissance research. There were no formal graduation exercises that time.
The Cub Scouts and Den Chiefs will hike Friday August 21 meeting at Drake's Corner 10:00 a.m. and return to Greene about 3:00 p.m. Bring a sack lunch and drink. no cookout due to dry weather. Hike destination is Old Round Grove. boys age 8 to under 11 may join after calling Mrs. Harrison Bone before Friday.

Harry Hampel resigns home service chair to become volunteer program consultant. Certificates of Merit awarded to Richard Krull and Rocky Lindley for saving a life May 19 1964.
The ASCS agency of the U S Department of Agriculture will inaugurate a simplified price support loan procedure this fall to aid corn producers in Butler County Iowa. Chairman Herman Stubbe said loans speed up cash access at the support rate, keeping producers in control of their grain to profit if market prices rise. The 1964 crop corn average loan rate in Iowa is $1.04 per bushel, with Butler County at $1.03.
Duane Ott the 14 year old son of Mr and Mrs Dean Ott underwent emergency surgery Monday evening at the Cedar hospital. Hospital officials reported the condition is stable and the family requests privacy as the boy recovers.

The Greene Community School begins the 1954-55 year with a full day on August 31 after Labor Day was observed. A Friday August 28 ration at the new education unit is listed, with early registration for those new to the district.
One hundred six students from Greene enrolled in the Red Cross Swimming program this summer. Classes were held at the pool in Parkersburg. Passers include a long list of Beginners, Advanced Beginners, Intermediates, and chaperones with multiple named individuals.

George Hamilton has returned home from Cedar Valley Hospital after undergoing major surgery in August.

Vicki Brunsma, who had been attending college in Dallas, Tex, returned home on Sunday after visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Nelson Carnell, in Altus, Oklahoma, en route.

Of this, 19832 went to or on behalf of 201 Old Age Assistance recipients, 1669 to 37 Medical Assistance to the Aged, 6824 to 47 Aid to Dependent Children, 1568 to 11 Aid to Blind, and 719 to 10 Aid to Disabled. Iowa totals show 4805918 with 8529 for Old Age, 451808 Medical Aged, 1581428 Dependent Children, 113963 Blind, and 94820 Disabled.
Orley Alden announced the sale of his trucking business to Orville Stewart of Greene effective immediately. Alden retires after a long nine year career in trucking. Stewart has long been active in Greene community.
Mrs James McMahon and her sons Sean and Donnie of Santa Barbara California spent three weeks in the home of Mr and Mrs Lyle Maxson. Mr McMahon arrived Friday and his family flew back to California with him.
