The Greene Babe Ruth squad defeated Nora Springs 2 to 1 in the final to claim the championship. Larry Uhlenhopp pitched a four-hitter with 13 wins on the season, while Nora Springs starter Peterson allowed three singles and five walks. Greene earned its first win on a bases loaded walk and a late line drive, with awards handed to Greene for league and tournament titles and Rudd taking runner-up spots in Babe Ruth and Little League.
Harry Stanton received his Master of Education Degree in Educational Psychology and Guidance from the University of South Dakota on August 6. Mrs Ambrose Stanton, Charles and Bernita attended the commencement at Slagle Auditorium in Vermillion. The Stanton family plans to move to Manchester where he will be a guidance counselor in the public schools.
The last mixed golf and hamburger fry will be held at Round Grove Golf and Country Club on Sunday August 16. Golf starts at 3:00 pm followed by lunch.
The annual 4-H and FFA baby beef sale Monday at the Butler County Fairgrounds grossed $36,673.71 with 167 calves averaging $23.39 per cwt and 939 pounds. Buyers include Rooky Packing Co and Des Moines donors. auctioneers Gale Wiebke, Bill Huisman, Heinie Uhlenhopp, Bud Menrenga, Terry Schrage, Don Roose, and Arnold Hexom.
A teen hop is set for Friday evening August 14 from 9 00 to 12 00 at Round Grove Golf and Country Club. Youth Center rules will govern the event. Sponsors include Mr and Mrs John Backer Mr and Mrs Aaron Jewell Mr and Mrs William Astor Mr and Mrs Paul Cheney and Mr and Mrs Loren McRoberts.
Everett Baxter born May 22 1909 at Vandalia Missouri died at Cedar Valley Hostal Charles City on Monday August ? He married Lily Gaiser of Rockford in 1930 and farmed in Mer sville Community. Survived by two sons Marvin and Gary, mother Mrs Geneva Baxter, four sisters and one granddaughter. Funeral at Reid's Funeral Chapel Greene August 6 at 3. Interment in Rockford cemetery.
George Hamilton, a 152 patient at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, underwent major surgery last Wednesday. The Cedar Valley facility reported the procedure and patient status without further details.

New daughter Julia Ann Daub was born Sunday August 2 at Mercy Hospital Waverly weighing 8 pounds 6 ounces. Parents are Mr. and Mrs John W Daub of Charles City. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs W J Daub and Mr. and Mrs Paul Nixt of Greene.
Marvin Moser placed in the Stock Car Races at Nashua on Saturday evening with a third in the third heat and a sixth in the feature race.
The pre season meeting of the Women's Bowling Association will be held at Greene Lanes on Tuesday August 25 at 7 30 p m. After the meeting the Rollers League and the Alley Cat League will also meet. All women bowlers and those interested in joining a team are urged to attend.

The Regular Election for Greene Community School District board members is on Monday September 14 1964 from 12 60 noon to 7 00 PM CST. Nomination papers must be filed by September 4 with at least ten electors signatures for the candidate to appear on the ballot. The lobby of the high school gymnasium will host polling, and a Treasurer for a two year term from July 1 1965 to June 30 1967 will also be elected. current Treasurer Verle Barth is eligible for reelection.
Esther Davis 86 died at Clark Nursing Home August 2 after three years as a patient. Born September 11 1877 on a farm south of Greene she married Isaac Newton Davis and lived in Greene. She was predeceased by husband in 1945 and sister Amy Grey. Survived by nieces and nephews including Darrell Davis and Elvira Thompson. Reid Funeral Chapel led services August 6 with Rev William Whitney at Church of Christ. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
The Greene Men's Bowling Association will hold its annual meeting on August 1 at Greene Lanes starting at 8 00 p m. The event will gather members to discuss schedules and club affairs at the Greene Lanes venue.
Local residents enter horses and swine for the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. Calvin K. Kelly fields an Appaloosa and a western pleasure class. Clair J Grendier son of Mr and Mrs August P Grendier of Greene Iowa attends the 16 week Pre-Flight School at Naval Air Station Pensacola Florida He studies aerodynamics mathematics physics naval orientation navigation engineering and leadership and will be commissioned upon completion and proceed to further flight training in Pensacola.
About 13 500 persons attended the Butler County Fair at Allison. The Greene Commercial Club sponsors a Greene com a doll and pet parade on Saturday evening starting at 7 30 pm. Children race in bi races, sack races and pedal races for under seven with prizes. Ice cream and the Greene Buck drawing close the evening. A bean guessing contest runs Aug 15 to Aug 28 with a 5 30 pm close. Attendance at 1964 fair was about 13 400, total receipts 19 500, record gate second only to the commiat and last year. Saddle horse show results, calf scramble winners, lamb scramble for girls seven to fourteen, pig catching, tractor pulling, and horse show winners noted with Greene entrants prominent.
Greene Ramblers head coach Max Dougherty calls all boys to Greene High on Wednesday August 19 to check out equipment and take physicals. Juniors and seniors 9:00 to 12:00, freshmen and sophomores 1:30 to 3:00. Doctors Andersen and MacLeod will provide exams at 7:30 p.m. in the gym. Two-a-day practices begin Thursday August 20 with sessions at 8:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Sandra Maxson of Denver Colorado spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs Lowell Maxson at their home.
Jacque Roose of Clarksville displayed the Grand Champion Baby Beef at the Butler County Fair, a 970 pound Hereford, prevailing over 183 calves. Reserve grand went to Randy Williamson of Parke with a 1015 pound animal, as Stevie Schrage and Mark drove claimed other breed titles. Senior showmanship honors went to Steve Schrage with Neal Oldenburger as reserve. junior showmanship saw Mark Schrage first and Randy Williamson second.
