Clarence Shultz was admitted to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City for treatment on Tuesday.
The Butler County CROP organization elected its 1964 executive committee with Rev. Willis Vander Kooi as chairman and Rev. Carroll Usher as vice chairman. Park er Smith is treasurer, George Tjabring manager, Rev. Nevin Haines publicity director, Rev. Harlan Winter promotion director, and Eggert Klahsen campaign director. Area township chairs include Heyo Kampman, Henry Van Dyke, Rev. Harlan Winter, Vic Bochmann, and Raymond Wagoner with listed township assignments for Coldwater, Bennedette, Dayton.
Mrs Waller Kemming announced the sale of the Kemming Sinclair business to Gary Smith effective next Tuesday September 1. Smith spent five years with Coop Oil at Dumont and will relocate with his wife June Weiland and their two children Tana and Nathan to Greene once housing opens.
Harold Meyer was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City Tuesday afternoon August 18 for treatment of flu complications and returned home Thursday afternoon.
The paper by Jack Hagarty and Dr. B T Gilles from Duquesne University Pittsburg is among the papers to be delivered at the American Chemical Society annual meeting in Chicago from September 1 to 4. Hagarty, son of Mr and Mrs Donald Hagarty of Greene, earns a chemistry PhD.
Mr and Mrs Orley Alden traveled to California on Monday to visit their son in law Jerry Warner and daughter at their La Puente home. The stay includes time with the Warner family.
Private First Class Roger Stewart is spending a week with his parents Mr and Mrs Kenneth Stewart and family. He entered the Army in January and trained at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Roger is now stationed with radar communications at Mill Valley Air Force Base in California.
The Iowa State Tax Commission released figures for sales and use tax paid to the state for the quarter ending March 31. Butler County reported $75,394.49 in sales tax with Allison leading towns at $16,393.76 and Greene $14,719.26. A separate $238.49 was paid for consumer use tax. 244 new vehicles and trailers were registered in Butler County, generating $13,217.55 in use tax.
Mr and Mrs Donald McGee and their family have returned from a months long vacation in Lincoln England with Mrs McGees parents Mr and Mrs George Blow.
Miss Maria Consuelo Quitiba, 17 from Linhares Brazil, registered at Greene High School for the 1964 65 academic year. She arrived August 21 living with the Jim Drakle family and will study typing English government speech and home economics while improving English. The move was organized by the Greene American Foreign Student Chapter chaired by Mrs. James Graven with local sponsors and advisors aiding her integration.
Five youths were injured in a car pickup crash on the Butler Floyd County line six miles east of Greene around 2 pm Monday. Donald Gabe 16 drove west, swerved after hitting gravel, colliding with Mrs Larry Mason Greene in her eastbound car. Walter Gabe’s son and three Greene youths were injured. Stanley Pratt had a broken leg. Deputies said investigation continues.
A Social Security Administration district representative will visit Allison Court House on September 2, 16, and 23 from 9 00 p m to 11 00 a m. Contact the Waterloo district office in room 702 of the Black Hawk Building at 15 234 1554 for alternatives.
Marine Sergeant Bill Forkner has been assigned as a recruiter at the Waterloo Marine Recruiting Station. The Waterloo recruiting area covers Black Hawk Bremer Buchanan Butler Chickasaw Fayette Grundy Hardin Howard and Winneshiek counties in Iowa.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Siemens and Bonnie returned Saturday from a three month trip across Europe. They visited relatives in Germany, saw the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and toured the World’s Fair in New York City during their journey.
Gerald W. Curtis of Greene was charged with speeding in a restricted zone. He paid a $20.00 fine and $5.00 costs.
Robert Mead, president of the Greene Quarterback Club, announces the first meeting next Tuesday evening September 1 at 7 30 in the high school lunch room. The event will elect officers for the 64 season and introduce new head coach Maxon Dougherty. All members and fans are urged to attend.
A tractor pulling contest and pony show will be held in Rockford on Sunday afternoon August 30 at the old athletic field. Local riders and exhibitors are invited to attend this community event.
Mrs Lois Pringle fractured her left leg just below the hip after a fall on steps at the Wayne Fischer residence on Friday morning. The fracture was pinned on Saturday morning and her condition is reported as satisfactory.
The Greene Sportsman's Club will hold its annual fish fry Friday evening August 28 at the high school auditorium. Serving starts 6 30 p m with all you can eat walleyes French fries rolls ice cream and coffee or milk. Prizes donated by local merchants and professionals will be awarded at the close and three door prizes bought by the club will be drawn. A few tickets remain from local businesses.
Henry E. Kingery of Charles City son of Mr and Mrs Orval Kingery is a patient at University Hospital in Iowa City. He underwent surgery on Friday and expects to return home about Friday of this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Donavon Knapp and family returned to Anaheim after visiting their parents Mr. and Mrs. Fred Knapp and Mr and Mrs. Mertin Schrock and other relatives. Mrs. Knapp and children spent eight weeks in Greene and Deravon spent the past ten days here.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Marsh learned from their son Douglas stationed on Midway Island that he earned a spot on the all Midway softball team. The squad flies to Hawaii to compete with other Navy teams for two weeks in contests likely to showcase the sailors’ skills.
Greene city council members decided to revert to Central Standard Time starting Monday August 31 to prevent church service time confusion. Residents should set clocks back one hour Sunday night, and Greene including schools will operate on CST from Monday.
The annual Wilmar church supper will be held Thursday evening September 3. Proceeds support church programs and local missions with community dining and fellowship planned.
James C. Kern of Route 2 Ridgefield Washington died Tuesday August 18 in Portland Oregon. Born September 4 1915 in Berryville Arkansas he lived in Washington the last 40 years. Survived by wife Cathryn G three sons James Anthony of Ridgefield Howard of Longview one daughter Tami Kern Ridgefield two grandchildren five sisters and mother Ethel Kern Ridgefield. He was a maintenance supervisor for the state highway department. Funeral services were Friday August 21 at 11 00 am Evergreen Funeral Home Vancouver with Elder Robert Snead officiating. Burial followed at Park Hill Cemetery Vancouver.
Cadets Bruce Mead of Greene and Paul Mayer of Clarksville participate in a month long AFROTC summer encampment at Schilling AFB Kansas. Mead linked to Iowa State University AFROTC unit and Mayer to the University of Iowa. Both expect commission as Air Force second lieutenants after training and college graduation.

Russell Folkers finished second in the second heat and second in the A semi main at Nashua stock car races on Saturday evening. Jim Marshall placed fifth in the consolation race.

Michael Enabnit one month old son of Mr and Mrs Duane Enabnit of Marble Rock underwent surgery on Monday August 17 at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. The infant was brought home on Thursday.
