The Selective Service Local Board of Allison sent 27 men for pre induction physical examination to Ft. Des Moines in Des Moines this month. Among them 22 are 18 year old registrants. No induction call was issued for July and August.
Ellis and Smith of Greene secure exclusive use of the prefix E S for naming all Registered Holstein animals bred in their herd. The Holstein Friesian Association of America approves the prefix, adding it to official breed records at the national headquarters in Brattleboro Vermont. About 1,500 prefixes are reserved annually for registered breeders, with over 30,000 Holstein dairymen using their own prefixes.
Clare Grendler in Pensacola earns a gymnastics achievement badge in his battalion at the Naval Pre Flight School, United States Navy, Florida.
The Greene Sportsman's Club will host an annual fish fry Friday evening at the high school auditorium. Tickets are sold by club members and local businesses. Steven attends Greene Community School selected for his science aptitude and scholastic potential. The eight week course includes field trips into ancient California Redwood groves and sea study aboard the college research vessel Seagull in the Pacific Ocean.

Beginning students in Greene Community Schools joined a two month instrumental music trial ending July 29 bringing total band participation to 188. The Greene High School Stage Band of eighteen members will play at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines on Wednesday August 26 with two 45 minute concerts one morning and one afternoon or evening. The band members perform in front of the grandstand and Teen Town debuts as a fair within a fair featuring live combos and celebrity autograph parties.

Butler County reached 54 percent of its savings bonds quota with June sales of 8051 dollars in Town. State totals rose to 62,293,193 dollars, 55 percent of the annual goal, above the national 51 percent average. County chairman John McWhirter of Ajilison reported June sales of 55,393 dollars and a six month total of 475,579 dollars toward the 1964 goal, noting year ago sales were higher and urging continued public support to keep America strong.

Mel Yerkes, a radio and TV man, unveils a “poor man’s Yacht” by mounting a Johnson motor on a round stock tank. He launches a small craft up the river in a playful test of craft and power. Lyle Maxson of Maxson Marine notes the motor used and promises to supply propulsion for any floatable idea.

Greene defeated Marble Rock 5 to 1 and Nora Springs beat Rudd 7 to 2 to advance to the Babe Ruth Tournament finals. Marble Rock opened with 5 runs in the first and Greene added two more in the fifth, while Nora Springs built a 3 0 0 lead before sealing a 7 6 2 line. Results of consolation and championship games played Friday will be printed August 12.
Mr and Mrs Gene Reser and Dick of Bristow along with Mr and Mrs Herbert Barnett left Wonday for California to visit Jacqueline Smith in Glendale and Mr and Mrs Dwight Barnett and family in Northridge.
Mrs. G. F. Butler returned home Friday from Racine Wisconsin where she spent three weeks in the home of her son in law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Stardy and children.
Frank Knight of Greene, born October 1 1880, died June 30. He was a former manager of the Farmer's Equity Store and longtime Justice of the Peace. Survivors include three sons Francis Thomas and Kenneth, one wife Emma, three sisters, and one grandchild. Funeral at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Williams Mortuary in charge.
