Fourteen Babe Ruth players in the Shell Rock Valley League were named on the All-Star team. Included were Greene youths Jerry Shultz Dan Eimers and Dick Stuntz. Others on the team are Bob Sanford Joe Austin Mike Winters Drew Johnson Bill Folkerts Doug Nauman Randy Nave Randy Bushbaum and Jim Fish. All the boys received individual medals. Honorable mention includes Greg Peterson Jack Demro Fred Lacour Ashley Benson and Ricky Truax.
Mr and Mrs Dean Miller of Waterloo welcomed a daughter named Sarah Lynne born Sunday August 4 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. The baby weighed 4 pounds 15 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Martin Senne of Greene and Mrs Wilda C Miller of Phoenix Arizona. Mrs Miller is the former Ferrol Senne.
The Round Grove Golf and Country Club hosts the State Husband and Wife 2-ball tournament on August 10 and 11. Eighteen holes are planned with flights and prizes, and players may choose Saturday, Sunday, or both. Steak dinner Saturday 6 00 to 9 00, dance afterward. Lunch Sunday. Reservations with Sam Sneed or the club.
Paul Grendlers and his wife Marcella with son Peter had reservations aboard the Italian airliner Alittalia slated for last Friday in Milan. Dr and Mrs Grendler, who spent summers in Florence, had been traveling to Toronto where Paul is linked with the University of Toronto.

Greene Public Library received a gift of 50 records from RCA Record Division in Indianapolis Indiana. The albums span classical popular show country western and Christmas categories and will join the circulating collection. Earlier Columbia Records gifted 50 records. total circulating collection now about 225 records.
One hundred twenty eight persons voted Thursday on the location of the Greene Community School bus barn. Site one received 42 votes, site two 42, site four 23, and site three 21. The board will make the final decision.
Miss Barbara Jacobs underwent surgery Friday morning at Park Hospital in Mason City. She expects release this weekend and will stay with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Spratt in Greene for several days. Mark Bigler, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Bigler, had surgery Tuesday morning at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
El-Bar Lanes owner Elmer Stock reported to Floyd County Deputy Sheriff Robert Erbe that $25 to $30 in change was stolen from several machines. The break-in likely occurred Saturday night or early Sunday, with entry gained by forcing the front door.
Fire Control Technician Second Class John Stock of Greene is selected by his commander as Sailor of the Month for July aboard the USS Black DD666. The honor reflects military smartness adaptability and leadership. Stock and his wife Sharlene Hildebrand reside in National City California with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stock of Greene.
Commander M. P. Frudden USN and his wife Judy are due to visit Greene parents Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Frudden this weekend. He commands the USS Lawrence DDG 4 since 1967, recently returning from a Sixth Fleet tour in the Mediterranean to Norfolk. Frudden, a Naval Academy graduate 1950 and veteran of Korea, has served on multiple ships and posts, now stationed in Virginia Beach with sons Scott and Brian who spent weeks at Camp Owakonze in Ontario, Canada.
Doug Trees of Greene High School wrestling earned a spot on the National Scholastic Wrestling News All-America high school team. He and Keith Abens of Humboldt were the only juniors on the squad. Trees finished junior year 84-5, with earlier seasons 27-2 as a freshman and sophomore, both second in state finals, and 30-1 last fall with a 112 pound Class A title.
Thomas L. Nixt will receive a Master of Science degree this fall from Iowa State University in Ames. He has joined the University of Iowa College of Medicine as a research associate in Pediatrics to study growth and development of human and porcine infants. Mr. and Mrs. Nixt and son, Matthew, have moved to Coralville, Iowa. Mrs. Nixt is the former Sheryl Ott.
Mr and Mrs Justin Watson of Cedar Rapids adopted a baby boy named William Marshall who is two weeks old. The boy’s grandparents are Mrs William Andrews of Greene and Mr and Mrs Marshall Watson of State Center. Mrs Justin Watson is the former Marilyn Andrews.
Evangelist Kenneth Dodson leads a special marital clinic for married couples at 2 30 Sunday afternoon August 1 at Calvary Baptist Church. Dodson, a veteran marriage counsellor, has hosted clinics from New England to California and helped save over fifty homes from divorce. Admission is free, and all married people in the area are welcome. Dodson also speaks nightly this week at 7 45 with varied sermon themes including Calvary crosses, sin, hell, the Russian Bear, and heaven or a new planet.
Marine Corporal James R. Bochmann 21 of Greene is promoted in Danang to his current rank with Headquarters Battalion First Marine Division. Promotion cites time in service and appearance. he aids division units with admin, communications, religious and security services. His unit runs civic action projects for Vietnamese communities, funding from the Marine Corps Reserve Civic Action Fund.
Upcoming Country Club activities include a stag supper Thursday evening the husband and wife 2 ball tournament Saturday and Sunday and a family picnic on Thursday August 15th.
Lightning struck the television antenna at the Blake home last evening. The resulting fire damaged the rug and the TV rotor. Elmer Stock, the son in law, extinguished the flames before Greene Fire Department arrived as a thunderstorm dropped about two and a half inches of rain.
The Blood Mobile will visit Charles City Senior High School this week to collect blood for Teri Leah Barnett. Donors may give on Thursday from 1 PM to 7 PM or Friday from 8 AM to 2 PM. All residents may participate on either day.
John McRoberts captured the Men's City Golf Tournament title by defeating Greg Dralle 6 5 in the 36 hole final. Dave Everds won first flight over Sam Sneed, Keith Dralle beat Larry Lester in second flight, and Jim Mead prevailed over Kent Jacobson in third flight. McRoberts will represent the local Country Club at the Champions event in Atlantic Iowa on August 16 and 17.
Dodgers coached by Galen Miller defeated the Yankees 5 to 1 in a Friday night feature game to claim the local league championship. Key hits by Joe Viers Chris Ruiz and Mike Constein fueled a 3rd inning surge as Mark Miller outpitched Jim McLennan. The Giants beat the Orioles 4–2 with Jim Van Eschen surrendering a one hitter despite six walks. Indians beat Braves 9–3 behind Ron Schafer with multiple Indians hitters contributing. Final standings list Dodgers 0 Yankees 1 Braves 3 Giants 3 Indians 4 Orioles 4.

A group of 97 Little League players, fathers and bus drivers attended the Twins game in Minneapolis. Dean Chance pitched a four hitter to defeat Detroit 4 to 0. Rich Reese and Ron Clark led the offense with key triples.
The 112th Butler County Fair drew record crowds with about 40 000 in attendance and gate receipts near 17000. Pam Stouwer 18 daughter of Mr and Mrs Wallace Brouwer of Aplington crowned Butler County Fair Queen and to represent at the State Fair on Aug 16 in Des Moines. Home From Hospital Kenneth Henline returned home last Tuesday after three weeks at St Marys Hospital Rochester Minn following open heart surgery.
Glenn Skillen, Mrs. Harold Schwartzrock, Edgar Schoolcraft, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bettesworth joined searchers in Arkansas to find Vernon Schwartzrock, 17, of Charles City, who vanished after failing to report to LeTourneau College in Longview. The group traced rumors near Fort Smith, Fayetteville, and Mena as officials alerted by LeTourneau.
Mrs. Eli Larsen 67 of Minneapolis died Thursday at Greenwood Hills Hospital after an extended illness. Born Lina Wiebke July 1 1901 in Renville Minnesota she lived in Greene until 1929 when she married Eli Larsen. Survivors include husband two sons one daughter three sisters and one brother. Burial services were held in Stanley Wisconsin with Elmer Stock and Mrs Minnie Stock attending.
All Girl Scouts heading to cookie camp at Camp Gaywood from August 12 to 14 should assemble at Perrin Park by 8:30 on Monday morning August 12. For more information call Carolyn Kehoe.
The Men's City Bowling Association will hold their meeting at El-Bar Lanes on Wednesday evening August 14 at 8 00 o'clock. League meetings will follow the association gathering. All men bowlers are urged to attend as leagues start the last week in August.
Minnie Plant 88 of Gowrie died Tuesday after surgery in Lake City Survived by two sons two daughters including Mrs Kenneth Jackson of Greene Two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral Saturday at Covenant Church in Lanyon.
The 1968 Iowa State Fair will feature a new covered mobile stage with Ed Ames at 8 p.m. on Friday August 16 and Bob Hope at 8 p.m. on Saturday August 24. The Baja Marimba Band and Mary Lou Collins join The Fifth Dimension across multiple dates August 20 to 23 with 8 p.m. shows and 2 p.m. matinees. The 10 day fair runs August 16 through August 25, bringing modern stage design and full visibility from all seats.
Six year old Lois Heeren daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Heeren had a tonsillectomy Tuesday morning at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
Members of Boone Valley Cooperative Processing Association voted Thursday evening July 11 1968 to build a new soybean processing plant at Eagle Grove Iowa with a capacity of 1500 tons per day doubling the present 400 ton capacity. The Boone Valley Cooperative is owned by about 55 000 farmers through 110 local cooperatives in Iowa. One other regional cooperative Farmland Industries Inc Kansas City Missouri continued on page 16.
