John Van Eschen was admitted to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Friday for treatment after a heart attack. Mrs. Lillian Skillen of Charles City, formerly from Greene, is a patient in St. Josephs Mercy Hospital in Waverly, in room 28, with visitors restricted at this time.
The Ruth Baty Jones memorial award is created at The State University of Iowa School of Journalism in Iowa City in honor of the Cresco Times- Plain Dealer co publisher. An annual $100 prize from a $3,000 endowment honors a SUI woman journalism senior with high scholarship and dedication to human rights and related activities, reflecting Mrs Jones’s editorials and community service. She died in May 1963.
Local realtor Calvin Kelly relocates from his home to the former C. E. Burroughs office in the Sperry Bay building beside the Post Office. He took possession on August 1.
Salvation Army reports $333.96 collected in Greene from the recent drive, with $416.95 raised in 1962. Donations can be left at First State Bank. Charles Ray has accepted the chairmanship for one Town of Greene.
Ray Holtz announces 32 Greene Community School instrumental music students accepted for the upcoming program. Most enter fifth grade. two month May start boosted turnout. Free lessons resume September with weekly sessions and first band experience. Notable enrollees include Dee Shultz, Sherry Debner, Laura Hamilton.

Bruce and John Mead sons of Mr and Mrs Robert Mead recently returned from the Winnebago Boy Scout Reservation where they served as counselors. They left Sunday with 47 scouts from the Winnebago Council for Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron New Mexico. Bruce is among the four leaders. Craig Allison also joined the expedition. The group expects to return August 23.
Denver captured the Cedar Valley League lead with a 13 to 1 victory over Greene on Sunday. Slagle started for Greene, relieved by Sutton in the 7th and Ott in the 9th, while Schindlar caught and Lehman pitched a full game for Denver.
Long Fall Tammyenken, year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Menken, fell fourteen feet out of an upstairs window on Friday. The youngster landed in a flower bed and sustained a few cuts and bruises.
Greene High School defeated Denver Oelwein and Waverly to win the sectional tourney at Waverly, then fell to Marshalltown in district play. Team members include Allan Marsh, Tom Teeple, Harry Barth, Stan Spratt, Dale Poppe, Jerry Fischer, Craig Allison, Nile Myers, Steve Clapham, Mark Ott, with Coach Ken Sulten.
Dennis Edwards, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Edwards, was knocked unconscious Saturday evening when a calf he was leading ran and threw him against a brick barn. He received stitches at Hampton Hospital and returned home Monday afternoon. His father suffered severe rope burns on his arms in the same accident.
Jim Drake president of the Greene Commercial Club announces Sidewalk Days will be held in Greene on Friday and Saturday August 23 and 24 as part of a Back To School promotion. All businessmen urged to attend a meeting at the Youth Center this Friday evening August 9 to finalize plans.
S A Eldred Kingery arrived Saturday evening to spend a short leave at his parents home Mr and Mrs Orval Kingery after graduating from basic training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego California. He will return to San Diego by August 15 for schooling in radio technology.
Mrs. Donovan Ruffrick, in charge of the Red Cross Swimming program for young sters from Greene, reports 98 registered for the classes held on Mondays at Parkersburg. Average weekly attendance was 85. Chaperones included Jack D. Shultz, Edwe Bob Fischer, Claude A Keith Drake, Jack I. Shultz, Sam Sneed, Walter Gibe, Loren McRoberts, Hoton Bellows, Ar dean Landers, George Shultz, Wilbur Landers, Hay DeVries, and Vern Rottler. Junior lifesaving was taught by Craig Cheney, Douglas Ruf fridge, and Bob Kanter. senior lifesaving by Diane Cheney and Mar Stuntz. The final class will be a make-up session next Monday, August 12, at the usual time.
Coach Jerry Eimers reports about a dozen free tickets remain for the Boston Minnesota Twins game on Saturday August 10. Tickets are reserved for first players who ask. Three or four cars are needed for transportation. fathers able to go should call Mr Eimers immediately. Cars depart from the bus barn at 8:00 a.m. Those going should bring two sacks lunch for the noon meal. The trip is expected to arrive in Greene between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.

The annual boys and girls golf tournament will be held at the Country Club on Monday August 19. Classes range from Pee Wee through senior group with divisions by fall grade levels.
Mrs Gladys Miller has moved to her home in Greene from Des Moines where he has resided for some time.

They will face Mason City All Stars Aug 13 at Roosevelt Field before the Braves vs New Hampton game. Batting and pitching stats for the Babe Ruth and Little League teams are listed, with Gabe, Hagarty and Barth among top hitters and pitchers.
Last year about 700 Iowa residents sought Census Bureau help to prove age and place of birth for Social Security, passports, jobs, and insurance. The bureau notes since 1790 it has recorded data for nearly 330 million people and provided copies to about 3.5 million as legal proof. For Social Security, contact the local office. for other needs, request through the appropriate bureau forms. Personal information from 1900 onward is confidential and released only with written consent or proper legal authority.
Mrs Ben Broadston, a parent at University Hospitals in Iowa City, underwent heart surgery last Wednesday. She is treated in Ward 33.
Larry Williamson telephoned his mother Mrs Leora Williamson from Norfolk Virginia on Sunday for her birthday. He had returned July 26 from duty in the Caribbean aboard the U S S Independence. The ship sails August 6 for a Mediterranean port in Spain and will proceed to Cannes France in September for liberty.

Groos Trust owns the farms once tied to Emil Tyden. Butler County Fair closes with 15000+ attendees including 11009 paid adults. Denise Carol Mitchell, 3, daughter of Robert and Denise Mitchell of Montezuma, died Saturday after a gravel truck struck the car she rode in on Highway 14 north of Newton. The vehicle overturned in a ditch. Denise attended by her mother and grandparents Lloyd and Mrs Schnathort. The truck driver was Charles Davison, 22, of Granby Missouri.
