The Recorder staff will be busy this week end printing next week's issue and cannot do the usual Thursday Friday and Saturday jobs. Much time will be spent on moving repairs and recreation with a week off acting as a vacation itself. A forecast notes Goldwater victory impact and a dull Democratic convention ahead with excitement delayed until 1968.
A NIAD Special Program Committee meeting in Mason City outlined an October 6 progress report event at the Hanford Hotel. NIAD Executive Committee Chairman Henry C. Nelson will moderate a panel from Education, Agriculture, Business and Industry, and Recreation Tourism study groups with Park Rinard delivering the main talk.
Marble Rock edged Rockford 9 to 8 and Nora Springs defeated Nashua 6 to 0 in the Babe Ruth Tournament opening round. Semifinals set for Wednesday with Greene vs Marble Rock at 7 00 and Nora Springs vs Rudd at 8 30.
Mr and Mrs Duane Enabait of Marble Rock welcomed a son on Thursday July 23 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces named Michael William Mother is Marjorie Andrews daughter of Dr and Mrs William Andrews Grandparents Ed Enabait Marble Rock Rev and Mrs John Deines Davenport welcomed a daughter Danalle Lyn on June 24 Mrs Deines is Martha Andrews and grandparents are Dr and Mrs Andrews and Rev and Mrs I J Deines
Mrs. Anna Clapham died Friday July at Mercy Hospital Waverly after a long illness. Born August 9 1885 in Oslo Norway she came to America with parents as a child. Survived by three daughters Margaret Pringle Lynn Shafer Evelyn Truex a son Howard nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral Monday July 27 at First Methodist Church with Rev Wayne Gjerde. burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Williams Mortuary in charge.
The Greene Recorder will be closed August 3 through August 8 for staff vacation. Two papers will be printed the week of July 27 with issues on July 29 and July 31. The August 5 mailing remains. advertisers and news contributors must submit copy by Friday morning July 31.
Mr and Mrs Leland Sellers of Osage announce the birth of a daughter named Cindy Lea born Friday afternoon July 24 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital Osage. The baby weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces. Mrs Sellers is the former Ima Jean Freeseman, daughter of Mr and Mrs William Freeseman.
Leslie Barnhart born August 6, 1894 in Greencastle Pennsylvania died July 21 in Greene. He moved to Greene at 17 worked on farms then farmed himself. Survived by Grace wife five daughters eight grandchildren two brothers and other relatives. Funeral services held July 25 at 2 pm with Rev Butler at Reid's Funeral Chapel and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Stunt drivers in late-model stock cars headline the Tournament of Thrills at the Butler County Fair in Allison on Sunday August 2. The program starts at 8:00 p.m. World famous daredevil drivers perform barrier crashes leaps through space and roll-over crashes with clown entertainment for the audience.
Mr and Mrs Leroy Kingery arrived Saturday to spend two weeks with Orval and his wife and other relatives here. They will depart the United States in September for Kaduna Nigeria to teach school for the next two years.
A representative from the Social Security Administration District Office in Waterloo will visit Allison at the Court House on August 5 12 and 26 1964 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Earl T Johnson District Manager says. Mrs Bert Peeley slipped on a kitchen floor Saturday after dinner and sustained two broken bones in her right wrist. The injury was immobilized with a cast and she is recuperating at home.
Mr and Mrs Lee Bachman have moved into the Vera Davis home on South Main Street in Greene from Soldier Iowa. He will be principal of Greene Elementary School, formerly principal at East Monrovia Community School. They have two sons Charles and Lyle, both students at the University of Indiana Bloomington. Charles pursues a medical doctorate and Lyle a bachelor degree.
Agnes Emma Stinger 72, daughter of William and Mary Stinger, born January 19 1892 in Brooklyn Iowa, died July 21 at Perrin Rest Home New Hartford. Survived by sister Mrs Johnson Greene two nephews William Clair Johnson and niece Mrs Louis Litterer. Funeral Friday July 24 2 PM Williams Mortuary with Rev G Butler First Presbyterian officiating. Burial Rose Hill cemetery.
Beverly Herman daughter of Mr and Mrs Bart Herman underwent an appendectomy at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Tuesday July 21. She returned home on Monday.
The Little League team beat Nashua 12 to 4 to clinch Shell Rock Valley League first place with 13 wins and 2 losses, their 11th straight win. The Babe Ruth squad completed the season undefeated at 8 to 4 over Nashua in their 15th straight victory.
Robert Curtis of Greene won the Invitational Golf Tournament, beating Round Grove Golf and Country Club on Sunday by one stroke from Monroe of Charles City, the defending champion. The field included 110 players from multiple cities and states, with Curtis earning medalist honors at 35 for 9 holes and Clyde Stuntz of Greene taking the flag hole.
Republicans of Butler County will host Evan Curley Hultman at the Butler County Fair in Allison on Friday July 31. Hultman, the Republican candidate for Iowa governor, will be at the Republican headquarters on the fair grounds as he travels to 49 fairs in 17 days to talk with constituents.
Mr and Mrs Marvin Barth and son Bully returned from a two week vacation visiting friends and relatives in Rhode Island and Connecticut Also attended a Major Teague ball in Boston Massachusetts
Terry Thomason dominated the Midwest Racing Association event at Lake View on Sunday, securing one second in B Runabout two seconds in Hydroplane and two seconds in B Hydroplane. A Runabout added a third and a fourth, while Glade Heichel earned a second in B Runabout and Kenneth Stewart a third in A Hydroplane.
The Butler County fair runs Thursday through Sunday in Allison with a full schedule of horse shows, livestock judging, Children’s Day events, races, and the Bill Adams Air Show. The 4-H and FFA junior horse show starts Thursday afternoon at 2:00 PM with saddle horse events and multiple divisions limited to Butler County residents and nearby townships. Judging begins Friday at 8:30 AM. Friday also features Children’s Day midway rides at reduced rates. The program includes horse classes, stock horse events, barrel and stake races, and a Bill Adams Air Show at 2:30 PM Friday, with concluding events in the evening.
Sam Sneed captured the championship at Round Grove Golf and Country Club defeating Clyde Stuntz and Dave Everds. Henry Dralle won the consolation, with Everds losing to Sneed in the finals. Sneed will represent Round Grove in the Tournament of Champions at Atlantic on August 20 21 and 29.
Mrs. John Boerschel died at 83 in Nashua after a long farming life near Pow ersville. Funeral at St John s United Church of Christ Pleasant Hill with Rev A Krueitzmann officiating. Survivors include her husband two daughters Ida Reimts Hulda Schauer a brother Albert Schallock ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
Mrs Francis E Wilson won 1500 dollars in the Greene Buck drawing held Saturday evening. The 310 dollar winner was absent, so upcoming Saturday will feature one 15 dollar drawing and two 10 dollar drawings.
Rev and Mrs Donald Neely and their daughters Lisa and Annette Lee, two months old, are spending a 50 day furlough with their mothers Mrs Allen Neely in Brettendart and Mrs Leslie Barnhart in Greene. They came after the death of Mrs Neely's father. Rev Neely, a chaplain, is stationed with the Army at Braconne France.
Announced birth of Rodney Lee on July 27 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces. Grandparents listed as Mr. and Mrs. Harry Eliasen and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Smith of Greene.
In hospital Carl V. was admitted in the Cedar Valley region near Marble Rock on a day afternoon following a near incident. Local officials report no further details available.
A chilly morning saw temperatures near 60 degrees as a heat wave fades. The region has not seen meaningful rain for over three weeks, leaving air muggy and dry and prompting requests for moisture.
Mrs Helen Kock is discharged to home Monday from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after undergoing major surgery.
