Former Greene High athletes shine on Langhurst Motors team

Janet Schafer and Julie Harris, former Greene High School stars, played for Langhurst Motors of Marion this summer. Joining in mid June, Langhurst went 18-9 for the rest of the season and finished 2nd in the State Tournament in Des Moines last weekend. The squad lost to Canton and the St Louis Reds in July and fell twice to the Des Moines Bomberrettes in the state final rounds. Stockman’s Bomberrettes, who have produced recent college world series participants, led the Des Moines title run. Both Schafer and Harris noted the higher level of play, enjoyed the summer, and hope to reach the regional meet next year, as Iowa seeks its first national tournament berth since 1956.
