Double Your Garden Yields With Targeted Fertilizer Use

Horticulturist Ben Vance of Iowa State University explains a banded fertilizer method to boost yields. By placing a pound of complete fertilizer in two 3 to 4 inch deep rows beside each seed row, plants access nutrients where roots concentrate, enabling smaller gardens with less work yet higher harvests. He suggests soil testing and using 10-10-10 or 12-12-12 fertilizers at 2 pounds per 50 feet of crop row.
