Stanley Pond of Greene fractured his left leg last Thursday at Dr. Salsbury Laboratory in Charles City when a cart fell on him. He was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital, his leg casted, and he plans to return home in a few days.
H Herschel Opperman of Allison announces candidacy for Butler county treasurer in the June primary. A WWII Navy veteran, he farmed near Allison for 14 years and served as township clerk and school director. He managed Opper mans Market before selling it this spring. he is married with three children.

The Boy Scouts plan a court of honor Monday evening April 25 at 7 30 in the high school cafeteria. Regular and explorer scouts and parents are invited. Advancement awards from Tenderfoot to Life will be presented along with merit badges since the last court. No eagle awards. A lunch will be served.
Mrs. Katie Jones 79 died Sunday at Clark Rest Home Greene after a stroke on March 23. Survived by two sons Arnold Milwaukee Wisconsin and Martin Jr Charles City, daughter Mrs Harold Delker Greene, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, brother Zell Poisal Traer Rest Home, two sisters Mrs Ross Knight and Mrs Roy Martin Clarksville. Mr and Mrs George L Shafer returned home last week after spending October through November in Chandler Arizona The couple had been away from home for several months while visiting the southwest city.
Mrs. Edwin Heyenga of Allison dies at home from a cerebral hemorrhage. Ethel Barth Heyenga, born October 6 1921 near Greene, married 1941, lived in Allison, taught at Allison Reformed Church, survived by husband, son Edwin Jr, daughter Janea, mother, siblings. funeral at Trinity Reformed Church and Allison Cemetery.
James Craig Anderson, infant son of Mr and Mrs Graydon Anderson, was baptized Easter Sunday at the Presbyterian Church with Oscar Anderson, the infant’s grandfather, assisting at the ceremony.
Mrs. M. K. Sperry, Butler County Heart Fund chairman, reports the final 1960 county total is $2,678.88 with Greene residents contributing $352.08. The county sent $2,640.68 to the Iowa Heart Association last year, and $15 was given to the Memorial Fund honoring Dan Feyereisen, Ed Wilson, and Mary Ingraham. Memorial contributions are accepted at any time.
Wartburg College public relations head N C Engelbrecht will speak at the Butler Y H leaders recognition banquet Tuesday April 26 at the Parm Bureau Auditorium Allison. The event honors more than 90 4 H leaders and county committee members for their service to Butler County 4 H clubs and programs.
Butler County reached 36 percent of the 1960 savings bonds quota for the first quarter, tops in Iowa and the nation. March sales totaled $144,167, pushing the quarter to $405,199. Iowa’s statewide first-quarter sales were $48,865,760 with a national average of 27 percent. John McWhirter of Allison chaired the drive, noting Iowa’s March sales boosted statewide totals.

The State Services for Crippled Children will hold a diagnostic clinic at St. John Lutheran Church in Charles City on Friday April 29. Eligible patients are under 21 from Mitchell Howard Cerro Gordo Floyd Chickasaw Butler and Franklin counties. Last year 3660 attended across one day events averaging 105 per clinic. No fee for services. The program includes penicillin to prevent rheumatic fever recurrences. Dr John C Mac Queen leads the field clinics program at The State University of Iowa College of Medicine.
The Butler County ASC chairman Theo J Bauman reports strong early interest in ACP cost sharing for spring soil and water conservation on farms. Government funds cover at least 50 percent for practices including permanent pastures sod waterways livestock ponds erosion control terraces contouring and limestone spreading. Farmers must file applications at the county ASC office before starting work and may contact the Allison office for details.
Miss Virginia Anderson of the Greater European Mission will speak and show slides at Calvary Baptist Church Sunday evening. She has been serving in Germany and is among the missionaries supported by the Pioneer Girls.

Rollin Ray, son of Mr and Mrs Wilson Ras o of Route 2 Girene, completed recruit training at the Naval Tranny Center in San Diego. Graduation featured a full dress parade before military officials and civilian dignitaries. In nine weeks the raw recruit became a Navy Blues jacket ready for duty with the fleet.
Greene Ramblers defeated Allison 12 to 1 as Gabe pitched five shutout innings for Greene while Allison used three pitchers. Big hits by Marsh and Barth highlighted Greene’s win. Allison scored in the second. Ramblers earned a forfeit 9 to 0 win earlier and prep for Spring Iowa High School Sectional at Rockwell with a bye for Greene in round one.
A junior high dance is scheduled for Saturday April 23 from 7 30 to 10 00 in the school cafeteria with junior high faculty serving as chaperones.
Dr. B. V. Andersen Kenneth Henline William Nixt and Charles Crouse are all back home after hospital stays in Rochester and Charles City. Andersen and Henline plan follow up visits next week while Nixt completed treatment and Crouse also returned home.
Ernest DeBower 38, lifelong Butler County resident born near Allison and farming near Bristow for 14 years, announces Republican bid for county treasurer. A Allison High School graduate, he led 1-H in West Point Township five years, served on the Butler County extension council as secretary in 1959, and has been a Church Trustee since January 1958. Married with two children.

Robert R. Ressler of Bristow announces candidacy for the Republican nomination for Clerk of the District Court. He previously managed Fullerton Lumber Co in Bristow for five years and now owns a Bristow grocery store. He is married with three daughters and attends St James Lutheran Church in Allison.
Mary Boller qualified for the Regional Invitational Typing Contest sponsored by Facit Inc of New York City. The Stenography class at the local high school entered the 53 minute timed writings with 150000 competitors nationwide, and 500 top students were invited to St Paul Minnesota for the regional event. Mary earned an achievement medal for her winning paper and will compete on Saturday April 23.
Willam H. Schneiderman of near Bristow announces candidacy for the Republican nomination for Butter County treasurer. He farms northwest of Bristow, served as field assessor two years, is a World War II veteran with 30 months overseas in the Pacific.
