Daylight Savings Time will take effect next Sunday April 30 at 2:00 am Residents should set clocks one hour ahead before going to bed Saturday evening to ensure correct time Sunday morning.
On April 20 1967 the Butler County Board of Supervisors opened seven insurance quotations covering county offices for three years. Ten quotations assessed risks from automotive liability to public property with Don Harris Insurance Agency lowest at 8575.39 for year one. Sperry-Ray Insurance and Faber Insurance Co followed. A separate bridge bid was won by Kehe Construction Co for 19967.10 with work starting late June.
Greene Community School students in the industrial arts class made barbeque utensil holders for display in the Gamble Store window. Proceeds from the May 10 art show will fund tools for the shop, per art teacher Mr. Jack Dudley.
Three Greene mens bowling teams earned spots in the state tournament at Waterloo. Miller Real Estate 2749 led, Greene Cafe 2688 and El-Bar Lanes 2674 followed. Miller Real Estate scorers were Galen Miller 610 Dwight Barnhart 530 Duane Miller 507 Ralph Marsh 502 Paul Jepsen 476. To Board Ship John L. Stock son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Stock spent ten days with his wife and his parents in Greene He completed training at Bainbridge Maryland and on Monday left for San Diego California where he will be transferred to the USS Black DD666 for sea duty John is a fire control technician in the Navy.
Luther College opera workshop members present scenes from major operas at 7 p m April 28 and 29 in Decorah Wallders Studio Theater. Director David Greedy oversees rehearsals and lectures on history staging set design and costume. Pam Dralle plays Mercedes in Carmen and is among three performers as the Queen of Night in The Magic Flute.
The Cub Scouts gather for a pack meeting at Greene Elementary School this evening Wednesday at 7 30 PM. Webelos den led by Kenneth Knight will run the program.
A group of forty neighbors and friends gathered at the Earl Herman farm on Tuesday to plow disc and drag in preparation to planting corn. Mr. Herman is recuperating from a recent auto accident. Numerous locals assisted, with lunch served by a group of women. Earlier helpers and equipment were supplied by Gabe and Hamilton Implement with two tractors and plows.
Rev Donald Kendall Welsh Sr. will be installed as pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Greene on Sunday April 30 at 5:00 PM. A presbytery commission will meet at the church with Rev Walter Dutton of Waterloo presiding and delivering the installation prayers and questions. The service features Rev Dr Walter Kalvesmaki of Mason City delivering the sermon and Rev Dr Fred Langenberg charging the pastor. The Westmin ster Church’s Rev G Christie Swain will charge the congregation. After the service, the choir offers special music and Mrs Lowell McWilliams will play organ. The Welsh family from Henryetta Oklahoma will reside in the Presbyterian Manse. Everyone is invited to attend.
Walter Hildebrand was admitted to Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City on Friday for observation and treatment.
Thaine Hogue will discuss watershed roles in soil and water conservation on KWWL TV on the noon Camera 7 program Tuesday May 2. He will appear with the Butler Soil Conservation District to inform viewers.
Mrs Cliff Fischer 70 died from a heart attack at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital Charles City last Wednesday. Born Clara Gladys Pope July 11 1896 in Illinois she married Frank Clifford Fischer March 25 1916 at Manchester. They lived Greene since 1921. Survived by husband two sons Wayne and Robert a daughter Dorothy Walker five grandsons three granddaughters and other relatives. Funeral at First Presbyterian Church Burial Rose Hill Cemetery Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.

Glen Heinkel conservation officer and local Sportsman's Club representatives stocked 100000 Northern fry in the Coldwater access to the Shell Rock river last Thursday. The event is part of a planned series to improve Northern, Walleye and Black Bass fishing for area anglers.
Paul Shultz, son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Shultz of Marble Rock, phoned home from Singapore last Wednesday. He is with Marine Construction Battalion 5 at Da Nang, Viet Nam, on rest and recreation. Greene Community High School concert band directed by Ray Holtz earned a fourth consecutive Division I rating at the state contest in Rockford. Selections included Bach The Air Mozart Marriage of Figaro and Osterling Thundercrest March as students performed across woodwinds brass and percussion.
Larry Lester son of Mr and Mrs Donald Lester received the God and Country Award at services at the Methodist Church on Sunday April 16. The Scout must complete 150 hours in church work with study of church doctrines and service projects. Henry Smeins presented Larry to the congregation and Rev Wayne Gjerde pinned the medal. Larry also gave a replica of the award to his mother.
Greene Ramblers wrapped up a 3 2 win over Waverly, boosting their sectional tourney bid. John Barth and Doug Trees starred with multi hit efforts while pitcher Larry Eimers earned the win. Ramblers face Allison in the sectional opener with semifinals set for May 1 and finals May 3 at Allison.
John Heyenga entered University Hospital in Iowa City on April 17 for observation and treatment. He is listed as a patient in the south wing on the second floor.

Loren Duffield was discharged to his Iowa City home Tuesday following an April 11 surgery at the University Hospital.
Harold Blosser at Greene Community School reports that students earned strong ratings at state contests in Sumner on April 14 and 15 and in Rockford on April 22. Division I solos went to Nancy Tefft, Tom Tindall, and Larry Tack. Division II honors went to Carolyn Kehoe, Janan Smith, and Karen Barnhart. The ladies trio of Kehoe Tefft Walker and the mixed choir earned a two rating.
Mr and Mrs James L Klunder of Nashua welcomed daughter Jayne Renee born April 16 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital Waverly weighing 7 pounds Two brothers Jimmi age two and Joey age one greeted her home.
Mrs. Howard Raisty, chairman for Greene March of Dimes fund drive, reports that local residents mailed in $90.64. The amount reflects community support for the national campaign.
Emil Martzahn came home to Greene on Saturday from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Waverly where he had undergone surgery two weeks prior.

Russell J. Perry of Aplington, county savings bonds chairman, reported March sales of Series E and H bonds in Butler County totaled $75,034. The three month total is $222,532, 28 percent of the 1967 goal. Iowa match sales reach $9,368,077 with a state three month total of $30,731,775 for 23 percent of its quota.
