John James Stange, 23, of Rockford pleaded guilty in District Court to operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Judge Wild fined him 75 dollars plus 11.50 dollars in costs for an April 2 arrest by the Highway Patrol south of Greene.
Mrs Arlene Brown math instructor at Greene Community School is one of 25 selected to receive an NSF stipend for the Mathematics Institute at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City. The program runs eight weeks starting July 5. The award covers tuition a cash stipend and round trip travel allowance.

Bruce M. Marsh apprentice petty officer second class, USN, son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Marsh of Route 1 Greene, completed nine weeks at the Naval Training Center San Diego California on March 18. Selection as apprentice petty officer reflects aptitude and leadership among seaman recruits.
The five week Civil Defense course for monitors in Greene, likely the first in the state, is taught by Vern Gard and Curry Burroughs. It gathers a cross section of the community, uses government equipment, and faces battery shortages resolved by local support.
Rev. Robert Floy departs Vilmar St. John's Lutheran after a three year tenure to become Minister of Education at Le Mars St. John's. He plans to move mid May and will join Dr. L. L. Belk, pastor at Le Mars for 25 years.

The blue forms were left at every fourth home during stage one, with final phase starting April 16 as mopping up interviews aim to complete the ten year inventory.

Mary Grace Ellis born February 28 1885 in Greene died Saturday at Harris Nursing Home Marble Rock after a lingering illness. She taught in Iowa and North Dakota schools, served as assistant County Superintendent in Jefferson County Wisconsin, gave piano and voice lessons, and was a longtime member of the P.B.C. Sisterhood. Funeral Monday at 2 PM First Methodist Church Greene with Rev Clayton Becker officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery Greene.
Miss Vena Brandenburg 175 born March 5 1885 daughter of Frederick and Fredericka nee Hoffman Brandenburg on a Bennedette township farm died Tuesday morning April 12 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City after a heart attack. She worked about 40 years at Buchholz and Drake Department Store and was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church Survivors include brothers Fred Yanktown SD and William Hrundenburg Dumont and several nieces and nephews Preceded by parents and two brothers Ed and Julius and one sister Amelia Funeral Friday at 2 00 pm at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Greene Rev I J Devies officiating Burial Rose Hill Cemetery Hamilton's Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Laverne Kehoe mathematics and science instructor at Greene Community School will study physics at Arizona State University Tempe from June 27 to August 20 with NSF grant funds covering tuition and a monthly stipend.

Results from the State High School Solo Ensemble contest at Sheffield highlight Division I winners Steven Rattler on trombone and Max Hites on tuba, with vocal top honors for Linda Jackson soprano Bruce Cheney bass and Roger Martzahn baritone. Additional Division I awards go to various ensembles and soloists across woodwinds brass and drums.

Two Charles City youths James Magneson 18 and James Taft 20 were captured in Port Orford Oregon in a spree tied to recent car thefts in Charles City and Greene. They took a car from Carl Fisher Inc. in Charles City on March 21 and abandoned it burned near Greene. A 15-year-old Greene boy who rode with them slipped away at Phoenix Arizona later.
Iowa State University announced that Lynne Johnson and 513 other undergraduates earned Dean's List honors for the winter quarter. To qualify, students must carry at least 15 credit hours and average 3.5 or higher, with 4.0 being an A. Johnson is the daughter of Mr and Mrs W Johnson and majors in Home Economics Education.

New residents Mr and Mrs Henry Kingery of Nashua are the parents of a son born at 12 01 pm Monday in Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City. Mr Kingery is the son of Mr and Mrs Orval Kingery.
Dr. George L. Mosse, UW history professor, spoke at Luther College on April 11 at a banquet recognizing Freshman and Senior Honor Society members. Darlys Smith, Greene born freshman, is an honor society member and elementary education major, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Galen Smith. Freshman Society requires at least 2.25 GPA for first year students, while sophomores must also meet 2.25.
The Greene Fire Department was dispatched at 4 15 p m Monday to extinguish a grass fire on a vacant lot behind the T M Cities Service Station.

Mrs. Alfred Nitzschke 50 of Marcus died April 2 after a heart attack. Born Ruth Rosburg she was daughter of Charles and Ruth Rosburg former Greene residents. Surviving husband and daughter Susan plus two sisters and one brother. Attendees on April 5 included Kate Brunner V K Barth Edwin Brunner Carl Povps Carrie Merfeld and Vern Merifeld.
The Parent-teacher Association met in the high school auditorium last Wednesday evening. Opening numbers included Balcony Scene, a reading Treasurers Report by Bruce Mead, led by Mrs Rich ed Wagener. Geral Stephenson demonstrated typing methods. Aaron Jewell presided. new officers elected are Rev. G. F.
