Easter Egg Hunt At Greene Junior Chamber Of Commerce
About 200 children attended the Easter Egg hunt sponsored by the Greene Junior Chamber of Commerce last Saturday morning. They spent 200 minutes finding 540 eggs hidden on grounds adjacent to the Veterans Club. Local merchants awarded prizes to children who found numbered eggs.

The Greene Community School senior class took their annual Skip Day trip to Minneapolis Minnesota on April 12 and 13. They departed Greene depot at 3:00 AM by Rock Island train arriving at 8:00 AM. They toured the airport and saw a low plane the city skyline and the Gold Medal Flour Mill. They visited ice a lies and other attractions before returning home Saturday at 9:20 PM. Scouts Finish Planting Project At New Campsite
The final planting of 5 000 red and white Pine trees was completed at the new Boy Scout Campsite north of Marble Rock on Saturday April 13. A weathered day with a windy chill delayed work, Lions Club members aided, and three Scout troops from Mason City Charles City and Clear Lake camped nearby. A permanent Memorial Plaque will later honor all participants as Soil Conservation surveys begin for a building area at the north end of the tract.

John McWhirter of Allison, county savings bonds chairman, reported Iowans invested 40,982,163 in U S savings bonds in the first quarter, reaching 29 percent of the 1957 quota. The county contributed 193,155 toward 20 percent of its annual goal amid a national average of 24 percent.

Rites Today for Frank Vierth 87 Sumner publisher
Frank Vierth age 87 died after a short illness at Sumner Community Hospital. He owned newspapers in Jesup Winthrop Quasqueton and Sumner and was active in printing and Cedar Rapids Typographical Union circles. Survivors include son Vernon M editor of Lennox Industries publications in Marshalltown and two daughters Mrs C D Kretzschmar Greene and Mrs C E Heyer Sumner. Funeral services were at Immaculate Conception Church Sumner with burial in Union Mound Cemetery Sumner.

Vern Gard Receives National Science Foundation Scholarship
Vern Gard was awarded a scholarship to attend the Summer Institute for Teachers of Science and Mathematics at Iowa State College Ames. The NSF grant funds tuition fees and stipends. the program aims to develop science and mathematics understanding to motivate students toward science and engineering careers.
