New residents Mr and Mrs John Kammef Greene welcome daughter Margaret Ann born Sunday April 7 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 4 pounds 14 ounces. Mr and Mrs George Kielman Jr Rockford welcome son Timothy George born Saturday April 6 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 6 pounds 15 ounces. Mr and Mrs Robert Friedrichs Humboldt welcome son Dennis Robert born April 4 weighing 8 pounds 10 ounces. Mrs Friedrichs is Elva Kinsedahl, daughter of Gebroder? Kinsedahl of Greene.
About 300 Winnebago Council scouts and leaders planted 2,500 hard maples ash and elm at the new camp near Marble Rock between 9:20 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Participants from Greene included Henry Smeins Lloyd Blum and Leonard Nichol who aided supervision and water needs. A dedication ceremony with a flag salute and prayer followed by remarks from Dr. K. W. Kerr. A plaque will record all participants. Next Saturday another group will plant 5,000 evergreen seedlings.
George A. Smith 83 died April 8 1957 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City after months illness. Born April 12 1873 near Orangeville Illinois he lived in Lena Greene and Iowa later. Survived by two daughters Mrs Hugh Frazier and Mrs Granville Osborne four sons Harry L Clifford Leslie and Galen plus 27 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral Thursday 2:30 pm Church of the Brethren Hamilton's Funeral Chapel in charge. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
Greene Ramblers beat New Hartford 3 2 on the high school diamond. Jerry Newton struck out 12 in seven innings while Ingles allowed seven hits. Andersen and Newton hit triples as Greene scored two in the second and one in the fifth. New Hartford tallied in the second and sixth.
Forrest Cub Scott of Des Moines former Greene resident died suddenly this morning. He was a brother in law of Mrs. Glenn Truex of Des Moines.
Ronald Ray, son of Mr and Mrs Wilson Ray, has rheumatic fever and will be out of school for several weeks. He is a sophomore at Greene High School.
Myron Eikenberry was pinned against a truck by a block loader at the Beguelin cement block factory on Saturday around 1 p.m. He was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City where surgery was performed that day.
Reverend James Parks was elected president of the Greene Parent-Teacher Association at the regular meeting on Wednesday evening April 8 in the school gym. New officers include Mrs Herman Stubbe as vice president Miss Marguerite Bloom secretary and Mrs Leo land Whiteside treasurer. Guest speaker Mrs Max Goldman of Th ronka spoke on A Gander at Mother Goose noting nursery rhymes as political satire. a Girl Scout troop led the opening ceremony. Second grade won the attendance pennant for the month, kindergarten in second.
Mr and Mrs August H Schueler of Bristow announce the birth of a son at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City on Saturday April 6 weighing 8 pounds 0 ounces. The baby is named Douglas Dale. Mrs Schueler formerly Joy Delker daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Delker of Greene
Jay Cee’s solicited Greene merchants for prizes for the Easter Egg Hunt to boost turnout. The event Saturday April 13 at 9:30 a.m. near the Veterans Club grounds. Greene Produce Co furnished cows, and Keith Kingery invites further prize donations.
In Hospital John Junker of Cedar Falls, a former resident of Greene, is a patient in the Allen Memorial geft in Waterloo. His broth Tony Junker of Aredale, has been a patient there the past five weeks.
Frances Cecelia Lynch daughter of John and Mary Nettleton Lynch was born in Greene September 21 1883 and died April 2 1957 at Rockwell Nursing Home. She worked at several banks and the Greene post office before retiring in 1953 as a postal clerk. A member of St Marys Church and Catholic Daughters of America she served as Grand Regent and Financial Secretary. Funeral services were held April 5 at St Marys Church with burial in St Marys Cemetery. Hamiltons Funeral Chapel directed arrangements.
The Butler County Department of Social Welfare will honor board members with five or more years of service at a Wednesday meeting in Allison. Lowell Olson of the State Department will present awards to Fredi Maass, Fred Krocie, John Schoeneman, A C Tackman, and posthumous honors for Charles C. Fishel. Existing members Paul Scha effer, Freda Maass, and Fred Knoche serve as directors.
Gene Viers, who suffered a back injury last Thursday and is confined to his home, will travel to Iowa City on Friday for X rays and treatment.
The Round Grove Golf and Country Clubs hosted the annual cribbage tournament on Sunday April 7 with 1065 entrants from Rockford Marshalltown Charles City Cedar Falls Hampton Shell Rock Waverly Waterloo Bristow Humboldt Marble Rock Postville Osage and Greene. Paul Wunsch of Greene took first with 1206 points, Walt Miller was second, and Jack Whitehead of Greene finished third. Seventeen individuals and eight team prizes were awarded. High Team winners were Paul Wunsch Darrell Barth Jack Whitehead James Drallie and Cliff Fischer of Greene. Ted Thorpe of Greene claimed the low score prize with 1004.
One hundred fifteen farmers attended the planter school at the Gabe and Hamilton Implement Co on Friday evening. John Deere company representatives were on hand to help solve any problems the farms had.
Greene again sponsors entry in the Butler County league along with Allison Clarksville Damont and Parkersburg. Shell Rock expected to join soon. secretary Bob Klunder of Allison will finalize team drawings after Shell Rock commitment. Janes McLennan, who represented the local entry at a meeting in Allison, will announce first practice date soon.
Seventeen members will join St. Peter's Lutheran Church Greene and two join St. Paul's Marble Rock by Junior Confirmation on Palm Sunday April 14. Tony Junker of near Aredale underwent his second back operation Thursday morning at Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo. He is on the first floor in room 109. Howard Calease of Greene underwent major surgery Friday morning at Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo.
A five man team led by Jim McLennan Sam Sneed John Hamilton Elmer Stock and Roy Henline defeated a Rudd squad at Charles City on Sunday evening Greene led with 2447 across three games while Rudd totaled 2373. Sam Sneed posted a 214 high single and the top three-game series went to Sam 584 with Henline 522 and McLennan 511.

The Greene High School concert band will perform at 8:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium with vocal ensembles and band sections featured. Selections include Nutmegsers Maren, Marehing Saints, Broadway, The Banana Beat Song, Spook Session, A Hot Time in the Brasses Tonight, Interside with Carol Tatum on clarinet, Talent Scout with Belva Tindall on alto sax, and Sequoia by Homer LaGassey. A small admission fee will help cover music-department expenses. Everyone is invited.
A large crowd attended the Greene district music contest last week drawing 950 students chaperones and judges from twenty two towns. The Butler County April Term of court will convene April 29, 1957 with Hon. C. H. Wild presiding. jurors drawn from Albion to West Point townships are summoned for May 6, 1957. A long list of division one and two music contest winners across many instruments and districts is recorded, highlighting performances by numerous individuals and schools.
Cancer Drive opened on April 8 in Butler County Iowa with C-vay-Con querr Cancer Day following Cancer Control Sunday. Ministers cooperated in the spiritual fight to conquer cancer as thirty volunteers head the American Cancer Society Crusade with a goal of 655370 dollars for Iowa.
Head track coach Norman Bud Wolters leads a large Northeast Iowa squad with 90 boys reporting for action. Outdoor workouts were limited by weather but interschool events begin April 20 at the T. C. Relays in Cedar Falls, followed by the Comet Relays in Charles City on April 26 and Mohawk Relays in Anson City on May 8. The district meet is May 16, site pending approval by the State Athletic Board.
The Butler County Tuberculosis and Health Association executive council met at City Hall in Allison with Mrs Zoa Miller of Greene presiding. They reported Heart Fund contributions of 2707.98 and county Christmas Seals gifts of 3217.51. Marian Law of Waterloo, district representative, assisted with plans for the new year. The spring meeting and officer elections are set for late April.
