Backers Feted on Twenty Fifth Wedding Anniversary
Mr and Mrs John Backer were honored on their twenty fifth wedding anniversary with about seventy five relatives gathered at Round Grove Golf event. Towns represented included Decorah Waterloo Cedar Falls Charles City Waverly Ames Mason City Greene. Hostess was Mrs Melvin Blunt with assistants Mrs John Backer and Mrs Ron Taylor. A short program and refreshments followed. The couple were married April 12 1944 in Sioux Falls South Dakota where Mr Backer was stationed with the Air Force. They have four children John Jr 24 Mark 23 Paul 17 and Joel 9 and two grandchildren.

May Day Chapter No 287 OFES held a pair of meetings on Thursday in the Masone Temple Carol Lawyer of Manly district instructor led the afternoon school. In the evening Worthy Matron Mrs Charles Ray and Worthy Patron presided as degrees were conferred. Guests included Alvin Flint and several district officers. a social hour followed with a noon luncheon for the instructor and chapter officers.
