Editor notes praise for Greene Community School band after their live performances at the Greene Commercial Club banquet held at the Lutheran Church. Students presented three groups delivering entertaining music that outshines many name bands.
The Ramblers broke three school records at Dickinson Relays. Wendell Stuntz's discus 127 ft 4 in topped the old 126 ft 9 1/4 in mark but he failed to place. The two mile relay team of Hildebrand Ejimers Debner and Shultz ran 8:? to beat the school record by 34 seconds, while the mile relay team also set a new school mark of 3:40.4 and Beamon-Conrad won 3:35.5. The Ramblers next meet includes a dual with North Young Cedar Falls and the Comet Relays at Charles City.
Students Claire Arhart Janice Landers Mary Rottler Mary Stauffer and Glen na Wagner will take orders for the yearbook. Orders are due now with price options 2.75 down and 1.00 next fall or 3.75 paid now.
The Hampton Jaycees present a Miss Hampton Pageant as a Miss America preliminary with Jacqueline Mayer and Susan Thompson as hosts. Entrants must be 18 to 21. applications due by April 30. Judging on June 10 at Hampton High School auditorium. contact Mr. Foster at Greene High School for details.

The Girl Scouts will hold their spring paper drive on Saturday April 26. Collectors ask that papers be tied or boxed and visible from the street for easy pickup.
A preliminary notice announces a meeting for Greene area juniors and parents about financial aid for college. NIACC counselor Mr. Dick Wempen will discuss aid options and First State Bank's Mr. Dale Schroeder will explain the guaranteed student loan program. Tentative date is Monday May Sth at 7:30 p.m. Attendance urged to explore funding to complete higher education.
Butler County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution calling for a comprehensive study on erecting a new courthouse. The aging building, fire prone per grand juries, will have preliminary plans and cost estimates prepared by Cervetti Weber Associates. A special election on the issue may follow.
Fiora County 4-H members elected eight assistants to the county council: Marlin Ploeger, Sandra Shultz, Don Becker, Paul Rottinghaus, Dennis Katcher, Jane Dolan, Judy Frascht, and Linda Diegel. They join the current council to review summer events. conventions move to the last week in August. assistants will serve through Award Night in November. May Johnson, extension 4-H leader, notes the change aims to strengthen summer leadership and activities.
Ward Mehlan, a Hamline University senior and son of Mrs. Harry G. Mehlan of Greene, is pictured on Rue St. Honore as part of a 23 student art study tour led by Dr. Frederick Leach. The group visited major Paris galleries including the Louvre and Musee Rodin during their ten day break, staying at a traveling students hotel to meet peers from abroad.
Five University of Northern Iowa home economics majors were elected officers of the University chapter of the Iowa Home Economics Association. Barb Katcher of Greene was named historian reporter. The organization aims to broaden interest and knowledge in home economics, with emphasis on civic and international relations and personal growth.
In Hospital Mr C S Kaiser known as Mac Kaiser was taken to St Josephs Mercy Hospital at Mason City Friday April 18 for observation and treatment. He is not allowed visitors.
County supervisors pledge to mobilize courthouse staff, county equipment, and permissive funds to supply food, shelter, clothing, and cleanup during disasters. They will cooperate with all agencies to deliver needed aid and assistance to the public in emergencies.
The Greene Jaycees will fill sandboxes for children in the Greene Community on Saturday April 26. Tires are provided and cost is $1 per box. Notify Pastor Metzger at 893-4238 to request a filled box.
Mr. Glen Maxson came home Friday April 18 from Mercy Hospital Mason City after major surgery on April 8.

Debate covers county officer pay raises across 89 counties, travel expense scrutiny, and the need for efficiency at the local level. Also discusses elimination of a 3 percent tax on advertising and related revenue impacts, with groups visiting the state house urged to contact Kyhl to arrange gallery observations.
Barbara Hansen, 21, of Charles City, is in fair condition in a Cedar Rapids hospital after a shoot ing at her home Sunday night. Dennis Ray Hansen, 22, of Greene and now in Colorado, is held on assault with intent to commit murder. Bail is set at 15000. The 38 caliber bullet was removed at Mercy Hospital.
The Rambler golf teams open spring with wins over Parkersburg and North Central of Manly. Mary Kettler led the Ramblerettes with 45, while Dan Weyand and Larry Lester paced the Rambler boys with 42 and 41 respectively.
Greene Ramblers beat Newman of Mason City 4 to 1 as Gary Johnson pitched a two-hit gem with 13 strikeouts. Jerry Shultz and Steve Brunsema contributed key hits, and Greene advances to a sectional matchup at Mason City next Tuesday April 29 facing Rockwell Swaledale after a 2:36 p.m. opener.
A high school concert is planned for next Wednesday evening April 30 at 8 00 pm. The choir will perform popular music the girls folk group will sing and Claire Arhart will present a tap dance act. The band will preview numbers for upcoming contests. Mrs Hattie Boyd was admitted to Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City on Sunday April 20 for observation and treatment. Visitors are welcome.
Social Security Administration district office will visit Allison at the Sheriff's Building on May 7 21 and 28 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Vern Meyer District Manager notes the Waterloo district office at 525 West South Street can be reached at 234 1534. Grassley says the House calendar bill would let local schools decide how to hire guidance counselors and librarians, with an amendment for half time posts. He notes department goals to require at least one counselor per school or one per 300 students and one full time librarian per school, but argues not all small schools should face full time hires. He cites Iowa’s shortage of certified personnel and recalls last fall’s disapprovals due to staffing gaps, urging wait for more graduates.
Mr. Herbert Barnett was taken to Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City last Wednesday morning. He underwent major surgery on Thursday, spent three days in intensive care, and now is able to have visitors.
The Greene High School choir hosts a bake sale on Saturday April 26 at Mel's TV on Main Street. The sale runs from 8 30 a m until sold out, offering assorted baked goods to raise funds.
The North Iowa Area Community College concert band and choir will give two performances on Tuesday May 6 at Rockwell Swaledale School at 9:30 a.m. and Greene High School at 11 a.m. Henry T. Paine directs the band and Signe Johnson leads the choir.

Greene Junior High seventh grader Nancy Miller won a local creative writing contest sponsored by Read Magazine. Her short story Time for Courage was praised and will be forwarded to American Publications in Columbus, Oregon for further consideration.
Phillip J. Schafer USN son of Mr and Mrs Ivan D Schafer Route 1 completed three weeks of training at sea aboard the guided missile cruiser CSS Albany in the Caribbean. He took part in drills to improve skills and duties in the ship s battle organization aboard the Albans, a modern warship armed with long and intermediate range surface to air missiles ASROC and anti submarine rocket systems.
Bruce Johnson son of Mr and Mrs John Johnson enlisted in the United States Air Force and left for Lackland Air Force Base San Antonio Texas on Monday April 21 His parents hosted a Sunday dinner honoring him with Mr and Mrs Melvin Kollman and Mr and Mrs Robert Hansen of Cedar Rapids in attendance
