Veronica Merfeld and Patti McGee, Senior Scouts in Greene, were honored at the season end story hour. They have logged about 50 hours aiding story hour and library activities. A surprise party featured a decorated cake and red roses. 35 children attended.

Local businessmen launch an educational program at Greene High School providing career guidance books and a Concise Handbook of Occupations to all ninth graders. First State Bank backs Lincoln TV special on NBC channel

First State Bank, via ABA membership, co sponsors "Lincoln, Last Days" on NBC TV April 14 at Channel 7. The final of six hour long programs explores Lincoln's final days and Cabinet debates after the Civil War, featuring Hal Holbrook and Sada Thompson in a Lerner series based on Carl Sandburg's biography. Gary Silk of Aplington announces candidacy for Butler County Sheriff on the Republican ticket. He is 35, married to Phyllis Birley, with son Curtis. He is an EMT, part time officer, Jaycee member, and active in Bethel Reformed Church. The Butler Co. Democratic Central Committee met April 5 in Clarksville, electing Darrell Francken as Chair, Clara Fokkena as Co-chair, Ruby Weber as Secretary, and Mary Englekes as Treasurer.

Funeral services for Mrs. Orrin Scott 85 a former Greene resident were held Monday April 12 at St Marys Church Greene with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery Msgr Edmund Cooney officiated Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge She was born January 30 1891 in Rose Creek Minnesota to Ferdinand and Catherine Hartman and died April 8 at Mercy Hospital Cedar Rapids Iowa She resided in Swisher Iowa at death Surviving are a son Clare Greene a daughter Dorothy Bowman Swisher seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Greene Community School softball and baseball car wash set

The Softball and Baseball teams at Greene Community School sponsor a car clean up day on Saturday April 17 at the school. Volunteers will wash vacuum and wax cars to raise funds for a new pitching machine for all teams this summer. For more information call 823-4710 or 823-4671.

Greene to shock chlorinate water system on Apr 25 1976

The City of Greene will shock chlorinate the water mains this Sunday at 2:00 PM, continuing until 9:00 AM Monday. Residents are advised to stock drinking water, flush toilets after 4:00 PM Sunday to spread scent, and again after 9:00 AM Monday. High chlorine levels will cause odor and possible rust staining. contact city clerk for rust remover.
