GHS presents the comedy Up The Down Staircase Fri and Sat April 13 and 14 at 8 pm. Twenty nine actors and crew, new portable lighting including a dimmer board, and enhanced effects promise an engaging production set in a crowded city high school. Tickets through cast members or at the door.

Free vision screening for children ages 3 4 and 5 at Greene Elementary School on Thursday April 26 from 1 to 2 30 pm. Screening aims to detect vision defects early when treatment is most effective. The Society for the Prevention of Blindness notes one in four children may need eye care and vision issues can affect study and behavior.
The Woman's Club of Greene will hold a pre Easter bake sale on Saturday April 14 at Mel's TV beginning at 9 am. Commemorative plates honoring the 200th anniversary of America will be on display and orders will be taken. Plates are available in powder blue and milk glass white.
Rev. Buel IL Liming speaks at Calvary Baptist Church as part of an Evangelistic Bible Conference underway since Sunday. Evening services are planned for Wednesday Thursday and Friday at 7 30 p m with all invited to attend.
In April a rare storm dumped 12 to 15 inches of snow across Greene and much of Iowa, with drifts up to 12 to 14 feet. Cars stranded, roads blocked, plows worked through Tuesday as temps fluctuated wildly and local events were postponed or canceled. Schools gave two days off and the Butler County courthouse election was delayed indefinitely.
Mrs Ed Grace Ponto of Greene died Thursday April 5 at Salsbury Baptist Home Charles City She was born July 10 1890 in Rockford to Charles Walker and Mary nee Mathews Surviving include her husband two sons Roger of Greene Merlyn of Minneapolis one daughter Jean Shaw of Greene two sisters Hazel Cates Roseville Calif and Oscar Berg er Woodburn Oregon five grandchildren and five great grandchildren Funeral services are Wednesday April 11 at St Johns United Church of Christ Nashua with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery Rev Merlin Dietrich officiating Reid's Funeral Chapel handling arrangements The Christian Flames are coming to Greene May 6.
The Bennedette Farmers Daughters H Club will hold a bake sale on Saturday April 21 from 9am to 12 noon at Mel s TV. Note change of date.
Woman's Club plans a museum tour at McNider Art Museum in Mason City on Tuesday afternoon April 17. The group departs Corner House at 1 p.m. and returns there for refreshments after the tour.

James M Stuntz 58 of Greene died Thursday April 5 at St Marys Hospital Rochester Minnesota. Born December 9 1914 in Greene to Harold and Margaret Stunt he married Irene Kramer February 7 1945. Survivors include his wife a son Steven a daughter Sherilyn Backer his mother a Greene resident a brother Clyde and three sisters Helen Johnson Ann Holeschuh and Jane Bedell. Two grandchildren survive. Funeral services were held Wednesday April 11 at St Marys Catholic Church Greene with burial in St Marys Cemetery. Reverend Edmund Cooney officiated Reids Funeral Chapel in charge.
