Mann Mennen Plants Potatoes Early in Snow Melt
Mann Mennen, a senior citizen, could not wait for snow to melt and began potato planting on February 28 1974. He shoveled through the snow on February 25 to break ground and planted two hills of potatoes. By late March the sprouts appeared and he planned to transplant them, noting a good harvest from two hills last year.

Mrs Gary Ruby Smith aged 33 of Greene died Saturday March 30 from injuries in an auto crash north of Greene. Born Floyd County March 23 1941 to Norman Clark and Lucy Meek Moser she is survived by husband Gary two stepchildren Patricia Ann and Hud Allan her parents two brothers Marvin and Roger and sisters Roma Marshall and Beverly Moser all of Greene. Funeral services were Tuesday April 2 at First Presbyterian Church Greene with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev Howard Dukelow officiated Reid's Funeral Chapel had arrangements.

Burial services were held at St Marys Catholic Church Cemetery Roseville for John Sours 63 of Chippewa Wisconsin. He moved with family to Waterloo in 1930 and is survived by two sons two daughters two sisters Kathryn Sours Ruth Staudt and two brothers Leo and Jimmie. He was preceded in death by his parents M M Phil Sours two brothers Raymond and Phillip and four sisters. Rev Thomas E Braak of St Marys Church conducted the service.

The Joint Co. School System and the Iowa Heart Association announce a Heart Sound Screening Program for the week of April 18 to screen 3rd grade students. Linda Thoreson, RN, coordinator, says a computer device will detect unseen heart issues, with automatic, accurate readings. Abnormal results lead to recheck by the computer and, if needed, evaluation by a Pediatric Clinical Associate at a convenient location.

Flagstrip Jazz Bands Dance Supports Six Flags Trip
