The Butler County Association for Retarded Children reports $117.70 collected in Butler County from "Coffee Day" sponsored by the Iowa Restaurant Association. Eighty five percent supports the state office and executive staff, while fifteen percent goes to the national association for research. Hart, Chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, notes the no grazing period for diverted acres under the 1968 Feed Grain Program runs April through September. The Rambler track team fell 61 to 54 against Rockford in the opening dual meet. Neil Burroughs won the 100 yard dash in 10.9 seconds and the broad jump at 19 feet 4 inches. Jim Shultz claimed the mile in 4 57.9 and the 880 in 2 13.4. Larry Truitt took the 440 in 57.5, Allen Hogue won the 120 high hurdles in 17.1 and took second in the 180 low hurdles, while Bill Landers was second in shot put and discuss throw and helped in the high hurdles. The 440 relay team of Burroughs Litterer Ebling and Hogue won in 50.4 and the mile relay of Truitt Litterer Debner Hildebrand finished first in 4 05.5. Next meets are Newman at Mason City and the Warrior Relays in Rockford. A measles vaccination clinic will be held April 9 at Alexander and Sheffield elementary schools and the Hampton high school gym. Open to children ages 1 through 15 who have never had measles or not yet vaccinated, with no charge though donations welcome. Voters in Bennezotte Pittsford and Madison townships approved a new annual fire protection tax not to exceed one and a half mills at special elections held Tuesday. Bennezotte 38 yes 11 no Pittsford 25 yes 2 no Madison 27 yes 2 no. The tax funds go to fire departments serving each area with upcoming meetings to decide which departments will serve each community.
Butler County Extension Director Gary Frahm announces a cooperative effort with Butler and Franklin county schools to run Career Exploration programs for 8th grade students. Subjects include choosing occupations, self-awareness, workplace options, job prospects, lifetime earnings, and staying in school, led by Roberta Wiegmann and Kermit Hidahl with guidance from Guy Olson.

Rural Butler County residents may apply for calcium chloride road treatment this summer. Landowners or tenants must contact the County Engineers office by May 15 to arrange a minimum 500 foot by 18 foot section at a total cost of 45 dollars for two applications, first in early June and second in late August.
