Cloverdale faces a mad dog scare as three cows fall to enraged canines. The piece muses on politics, fashion, geology expert Rock Smith, and social gossip, plus weather and humorous asides about shoes, water witches, and Hoover pants.
One bid was submitted to trustee C. A. Wampler and Attorney J. E. Rodenbeck for Owen County Journal equipment offered for sale Monday. The bid equals the appraised value of 915.80 and was sent via Willis Hickam by Mrs. G. R. Griffin and Myrtle Griffin, owner and publisher of The Owen County Democrat. Sale awaits court approval.
Evansville Probate Judge Williams held that a child's needs override an automobile purchase in the Cars of Mary Forth case. Fred Korth was ordered to pay $86 for child support and faces a $300 bond if regular payments are not made, amid claims of a second wife and her child.
Oscar Badger Day aged 57 died at 5 10 am in Putnam County Hospital after a prolonged illness. He was born January 11 1873 and was an electrician and longtime Green Castle cinema figure. Survived by three sisters Mrs Reeves Mrs Sutherlin and Mrs Roberts. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm at McCurry Funeral Home with Rev B H Brunker. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery.
The Putnam county second home management meeting will be held Tuesday May 27 at the courthouse. The topic is Color Schemes for Kitchens with Purdue extension woman in charge. Home Economics club members from across the county will attend as Floyd Miller, county agent, notes.

Farm Bureau and business leaders debate impact on industry and agriculture with leaders noting unexpected broad support for the income levy as a relief from property taxes.
Prof W Vernon Lytle head of DePauw psychology leads sixty six students on a tour of Indiana University psychology laboratories. Prof Thomas E Nicholson notes the lab is the second in the United States and among the best equipped. The lab was started in 1888 under President W L Bryan.

W S Shade Meeks age 62 of Belle Union died at Putnam County hospital Tuesday night after a seven month paralytic stroke. He was a lifelong farmer and threshing operator. Survived by sister Mrs John Norwood. Funeral Friday at 2 pm in New Providence church with burial nearby. Rev W Gill to officiate.
The Putnam County Bankers association holds its annual dinner Tuesday at 7 pm in the Country club. Officers directors and all bank employees with their wives attend. president Joe Crosby presides. A special speaker and musical program are planned. the sole business is the election of officers.
In Greencastle 20 years ago the DePauw girls staged the first May Day fete with faculty backing for an annual event. A tennis tournament opened activities while Miss Zabriski trained the drills and dances. Ralph Jones, a student, put out a small fire at Miss Lillian Southard’s home on South College Avenue. The eighth grade play Miles Standish is scheduled for tonight.

Dr T A Sigler a Greencastle veterinarian and Democratic county chair is urged by friends statewide to seek the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State. He is seriously weighing the race and could become a popular candidate due to prominence and wide political ties.
The Putnam County Elimination shoot will be Friday at Eugene Killer's farm south of town. It starts at 8 o clock for all bankers and vigilantes to select the top three in rifle and pistol to advance to the state meet at Fort Benjamin Harrison on June 9.
William Julian 52 of Greencastle was slain at the Michigan City State Prison. Peter Tom, serving a life term from St Joseph County, confessed to striking Julian with an iron bar during a yard quarrel. Tom had shown insanity but was moved from the insane ward to the general prison due to crowding. Julian was serving 5 to 10 years for second degree burglary and had prior federal burglary sentence. He died of a fractured skull. LaPorte County investigators opened a case.
Greencastle unit of the American Legion Auxiliary announces May 24 Poppy Day with handmade paper flowers shipped from hospitals. Each flower yields one cent to a veteran worker, many disabled or blind, who contribute to a $100,000 wage total across 87 hospitals this year.
Greencastle high school postpones senior class day originally set for Friday. Publication delay of The Minaret pushes ceremony likely to Tuesday, with Thursday possible if the book arrives then. School policy requires issuing the book on senior class day.
