Golf teams from most Indiana colleges will compete at the Country Club course next Friday. Participants include Wabash Indiana University Purdue Notre Dame State Normal and DePauw with several others expected. DePauw led by Captain Red Mountz defeated Wabash 14 3 in a recent match with Mountz Beeson Boswell and Clark top scorers and Lloyd Thomas Warringer earning nine points.

Greencastle Man Sent to State Farm for Contempt
Samuel A. Skelton a culvert and road contractor from Greencastle was taken to the state farm Monday by Sheriff Thomas Tiffee to serve a contempt sentence for failing to provide for his family as ordered by the circuit court. He was $150 in arrears in payments. he will serve one day for each dollar. Relatives did not finalize a permanent settlement after selling his property.

Floods recede as rains cease in southwest region
Clearing skies offered relief to hundreds of homeless families in Texas and Louisiana. High water from Big Cypress and Black Cypress rivers submerged Jefferson county seat and surrounding areas. Relief agencies and city authorities cared for migrants as the Red River backwaters and flood crests slowly moved toward the Gulf. Former Local Man John Hinton Dies in Detroit
John Xerxes Hinton, a Greencastle native and lifelong theatrical worker, died in Detroit on Saturday. A telegram from Harry Griffin of the state employment bureau notified City Marshal Ott Dobbs, noting Hinton left Greencastle years ago and had no nearby relatives. Hinton was well known in Greencastle and Canada for his theater work and amateur stage roles in his youth.

Monon Freight Derails North of Greencastle
A six car Monon freight derailed early Sunday at a small station north of Greencastle. Morning passenger trains were detoured via Indianapolis and the Big Four to Greencastle. A northbound Derby train used Pennsylvania lines to Indianapolis and then to Chicago via the Monon air line. Bloomington wrecker summoned.

Post Office Loading Platform Construction Starts Soon
The Greencastle post office will begin erecting a south side loading platform next week. Heath Construction Company won the contract earlier and will complete the structure within ninety days under supervision of construction engineer L. T. Moore from Henderson Kentucky. The new platform will add substantial space for mail loading.

Capone Charged With Vagrancy in Miami
Chicago gang leader Al Capone faced a vagrancy charge in Miami after his arrest at Palm Island. The case was postponed when the city attorney failed to appear. A new vagrancy ordinance, aimed at Capone, was defeated by opposition from organized labor. Capone posted a $100 cash bond after arrest.
