DePauw University schedules a year end program from June 5 to June 9 featuring Alumni Day events, reunions, and a commencement address by Bishop Edwin Holt Hughes. Activities include Alumni Luncheon at Longden Hall, class reunions, organ recital, and President Oxnam remarks.

John H. James of Greencastle and Mrs. Lulu Frank Young, also of Greencastle, were married in St. Louis after meeting there while she visited California. Both are prominent Greencastle residents. The news surprised friends back home and a return date to Greencastle is not known.
The Third Ward school defeated the First Ward team 14 to 12 to claim the ward school basketball title. The victory gives Third Ward a perfect 4–0 record, while First Ward falls to 2–2 and Second Ward stands 0–4.
About twenty two girls and 4-H leaders met with county agent Floyd Miller at the Putnam County courthouse library to finalize summer events. The county fair is planned for July with a committee of club members in charge. Merom College hosts the annual club camp August 4 to 8, followed by junior fair and achievement days in October. Leaders discussed junior leaders and the 4-H club organization, and committees will finalize the year’s program.
Cloverdale Indiana May 2 The Cloverdale Greys meet Ellettsville in the opening game of the season at Morrison Park Sunday The two clubs report good shape for a stiff scrap The probable lineups include Steele Kelly and Stewart for Ellettsville and Flora Murphy Tobin Murphy and Sackall for Cloverdale The game starts at 2 30 PM and a large crowd is expected.
The regular monthly meeting of Hurst Collins Post No. 281 American Legion of Cloverdale will be held Friday evening at 7 30. Officials hope for good attendance as Memorial Day plans are discussed.
Forecast calls for fair tonite with cooler air. Saturday will be cooler in the north and east portions.
Miss Sarah Crouch of Fortville, a DePauw University student, leads in The Youngest in the Little Theatre tonight and Saturday night as part of May Day celebrations sponsored by the Women's Sports Association of the university.
County Agent Floyd Miller announced the Hendricks County Dairy Herd Improvement Association is being reorganized with four to five vacancies and invites Putnam County farmers to join. Membership is 44.50 annually, covering tester salary mileage and equipment. The tester visits monthly, tests milk morning and evening, weighs and measures feed, and offers herd management advice.
Mrs. Henry Ostrom and Mrs. Frank Donner appeared on the program of the 14th annual convention of the Greencastle district W H M at Terre Haute. W F Jamison was named truant officer of the county. Chester Hunt resigned from Lueteke Bakery to take a clerkship at Crawford restaurant. Greencastle high school baseball beat Wiley of Terre Haute 5 to 4.
The DePauw Alumni Association calls a Saturday meeting after Indianapolis alumni charged President Oxnam with influencing the vote in the recent alumni elections. A review of 47 disputed ballots could have changed the plurality for Richard Shirley.
DePauw University faces questions over 47 special ballots printed in duplicate. The board of directors will meet at 3 00 p m to discuss the matter after a May Day pageant. President Ritter says meeting open to all alumni and that past unofficial ballots did not affect the official Hogate victory.
George A. Shearer of Jeffersonville, 1 year old, is critically ill after a stroke in the Putnam County courthouse commissioners room. He is a field examiner for the Indiana State Tax Board and has been in Greencastle eight weeks working on county tax records. His wife and two sons remain at his bedside. He previously suffered a minor stroke five years ago.
Greencastle High faced Worthington on the Worthington diamond in the second game of the season. Jimmie Tobin allowed only one hit for Greencastle with Gross catching as Worthington beat Spencer rivals 8 to 2 and 6 to 2 respectively. Also noting local hospital tonsil operations for Loneden Duncan and Thelma Handlen, and birth of Audra Joan Stewart.
Tornadoes across Kansas Nebraska Missouri and Iowa killed at least 23 people with six missing and many injured. Damaged towns include Tekemah Pender and Lake City with extensive property losses estimated in the millions. Rescue crews distributed food clothing and medical aid as rails and stations were toppled and counties faced widespread wreckage.
The Greencastle high school band left for Elkhart to compete in the state high school band contest tonight and tomorrow. They will perform Saturday morning and are accompanied by Medford Maxwell and Kenneth R. Umfleet. The trip was funded by the Greencastle Chamber of Commerce. Thirty bands from across the state are entered.
Dr and Mrs C Howard Taylor are moving their household furniture to South Bend today to establish their future home.
