Gorrell Home Burns Early Morning Fire Destroys House
Two story country home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward O. Gorrell near Greencastle burned about five this morning. Origin uncertain but suspected to be a defective kitchen flue. Neighbors aided in saving belongings. insurance totaled 3 000 on the house and 600 on furniture. Greencastle fire department fought flames to protect a barn and granary across the road. This is the second county home loss in two days following Andy Huffmar’s Washington township fire.

Kiwanis Divisional Meeting Plans Large Delegation

Funeral for A B Wood Set for Stilesville Saturday
The 66 year old former Putnam county resident A B Wood died suddenly in Indianapolis and will be buried in Stilesville cemetery after a 11 50 am Saturday funeral at the Christian church in Stilesville. He was an uncle of Mrs Panl Albin of Greencastle. He formerly worked in J Sudransk store in Greencastle.

Date Set for Democratic State Convention
The Democratic state committee appointed R Farr Peters as state chairman to organize the convention on June 10 in Indianapolis. A platform committee will draft resolutions, with May 14 set for district committee reorganizations and May 15 for state committee reorganizations. Peters said a keynote speaker and permanent chairman will be chosen at the next meeting.

Twenty years ago in Greencastle and Cloverdale townships, J M Hurst bought a 19 acre farm amid recent owner fatalities. Jessie Gobiy marked a birthday with a dinner for friends. Prosecutor James P Hughes led a raid on alleged boling tigers and gambling doys at Harmony, with fifteen arrests. Loy Day completed new Federal Building spundings. A stone was struck at 7% feet.

Country Club Names Officers At Annual Dinner
John Cannon was reelected president of the Greencastle Country Club for the coming year at the annual dinner meeting held at the club house last night. Al Bobhiteen was reelected vice president and Ede Hamilton was reelected secretary treasurer. Charles Barnaby Reese Matson were reelected directors and Charles Martin was elected a director to fill A D Brown’s past year seat. Committees reported and new ones will be announced soon. Dinner was served by Reese Matson and the evening drew a well attended crowd.

Mrs Lisby Dies After Stroke at 72 in Ohio Town
Mrs Mary Josephine Lisby age 72 wife of Thomas Lisby died this morning at her home on South Main Street shortly after suffering a stroke. She had been ill for a year and funeral arrangements will be announced later. Survived by two daughters Mrs Flora Stokes of Indianapolis and Mrs Carrie Gorham of near Cincinnati. She was a past Noble Grand of Beehive Rebecca Lodge and member of the Methodist church.

Sylvester Black a Cloverdale farmer died at his home three miles south of Cloverdale after three months of illness. He was about sixty five years old. Funeral services will be Friday at Cloverdale with Rev. Wo EL Gil presiding.

Demented Man in Jail From Fillmore Seeks Hospital Care
Sam Thomas of Fillmore entered the county jail with Marshal Ott Dobbs believing he was entering a hospital with a famed physician. He asked Dr. William McGaughey for treatment, claiming a recent fight left him badly injured. Thomas’s mind is disordered at times and he once served as a Pennsylvania railroad foreman at Fillmore.
