Two cases of infectious cerebrospinal meningitis appeared in Greencastle within two days. Physicians and families enacted strict precautions, including throat cultures, quarantines, and moving patients to Indianapolis. Officials urge calm, hygiene, nasal sprays, and readiness as schools may close if conditions warrant.
A four trainload shipment of Indiana limestone from Bedford will sail to Seattle then be loaded onto a barge to Alaska. The stone will form the walls of the United States territorial building in Juneau, a 5,000 mile journey from Bedford quarries with a Bedford Cut Stone Company representative supervising laying.
Mrs. Anna Gilmore of South Vine Street is seriously ill at her sister Mrs. Lottie Scott's home in Cincinnati Ohio. She visited last Thursday and became ill upon arrival. This morning she showed some improvement. Miss Marfatt Gilmore has left to join her aunt and will stay several days as her condition changes.
At a joint meeting of the Putnam county Bee-Keepers Association and the Putnam county Horticulture association in the courthouse Monroe McCown of the Indiana State department of Horticulture will mail spraying notices and guidance to county fruit growers. Floyd Miller the county agricultural agent announced 500 sample census blanks for farmers to fill and keep to aid the census takers who will survey in April. More blanks available if needed.
The recent mild spell ended Sunday as a government thermometer recorded a 16 degree low Sunday night. Forecasters warned of continued chilly conditions into the new week with readings near freezing and possible frost.
William Julian, 58, and Ralph Jameison, 32, plead guilty before Judge James P. Hughes in Putnam Circuit Court to second degree burglary. Julian received a three to ten year term at Indiana State Prison. Jameison also faced burglary conviction and received a sentence. Other charges were withdrawn after witnesses refused to testify.
Greencastle firemen responded Saturday evening to the Moore and Cook show store for a shorted electric light wire that heated the metal ceiling with little damage. Earlier they were called to 108 Martinsville Street where an automobile had caught fire. the vehicle was gone when firefighters arrived and the fire was out.
Lloyd Butler 21 of Belle Union and Alice Isabell Rubeck 18 of Poland at home obtain a marriage license. Frank Masten of Old Trails Insurance invites listeners to a WFBM broadcast this evening from 8 to 8:30 featuring a tale of Indiana Indians and pioneers.
Greencastle Tiger Cubs easily defeated Bainbridge 27 to 14 in the sectional tourney final. Tobin and Stone led scoring for Greencastle while O’Hair starred for Bainbridge. Ellis missed due to sickness and Campbell played forward as Greencastle advanced to regional play against Crawfordsville Clinton and Attica.
Benjamin Corwin prominent Greencastle attorney dies at his home on Locust street near 11 o clock after weeks of illness. He is 71 and leaves a widow two brothers and a sister. Funeral set for Wednesday at 3 pm at Forest Hill cemetery. Corwin born December 4 1859 in Monroe township. Burial in Forest Hill.
Deputy sheriff Alyn Bryan investigated after George Collins found about 80 chickens missing from his rural Mt. Meridian area home. No trace of the thieves was found as of this morning.
Andrew B Wanna offered 150 acres of farm land west of Greencastle for an Indiana Veterans Hospital. Col J J Phelan of the National Hospitalization Board inspected sites presented by the Greencastle Chamber of Commerce and Hanna farm, and may recommend a location when he returns to Washington.
In a tense second semi final Bainbridge edges Roachdale 14 to 13 after a late free throw by O H air. Roachdale guard R Martz suffers a sprained wrist, carried from the floor but not as bad as feared, with Roachdale scoring details and lineup notes amid the rough finish.
Reelsville and Manhattan grade schools present The Magic Garden operetta in Reelsville gym Friday evening March 7 directed by Mrs Heley Jarrell.
The south portion remains partly cloudy while the north faces milder temperatures tonight and Tuesday. No precipitation is indicated and nighttime lows will ease slightly in the northern area.

Mrs Edith Clarkson Webb formerly of Rushville died in Indianapolis after contracting epidemic meningitis. A graduate nurse of City Hospital, she had worked at Putnam County Hospital and lived with the Pitchford family in Greencastle. The case prompted quarantines at several homes and hospitalizations for others exposed.
Two cerebro spinal meningitis cases develop in the city leading authorities Mayor Denman City Health Officer McGaughey and Superintendent Yount to close public schools for the rest of the week and ban public gatherings including churches. They urge parents to keep children home and limit neighborly visits to curb spread.
