A gambler recounts a bet on a basketball game between Reelsville and Fillmore with an ice cream soda wager. The professor admits Fillmore won despite his boast that Reelsville would prevail, noting breaks rather than skill. The narrator reflects on blind bets and a Derby stunt gone wrong.
Marshal Otto Dobbs announces a crackdown on double parking in Greencastle. Cars violating the new rule will receive stickers, ending a year of downtown double parking.
Arthur Hagan aged 1 of St. Louis was arraigned in Putnam County circuit court and pleaded guilty to robbing the Lora Buis filling station on the National road between Mt. Meridian and Four Corners of nine gallons of gas Thursday morning. Trial set for Tuesday morning. Hagan and his wife were arrested by Brazil police and jailed here. Brazil authorities suspect a stolen car, held for ownership check, bore Ohio plates and had West Virginia plates found under the floor boards.
The fourth and final farmers meeting sponsored by the county agent the agriculture department of Greencastle High School Central National Bank and Central Trust Company will be in the high school agriculture department in the gymnasium northeast corner Monday evening March 3 at 7 30.

Mostly fair conditions tonight followed by much colder air. A moderate cold wave grips the northern portion, with colder temperatures expected Sunday.
Purcell and Zeiner star as Marion Township lads roll in second sectional tournament opener Friday night. Tournament scores: Greencastle 42 Cloverdale 15, Fillmore 22 Reelsville 21. Roachdale 50 Putnamville 19, Bainbridge 27 Russellville 24. Hall Greencastle 28 Fillmore 4. final Greencastle 33 Fillmore 18.
Roachdale dominated the opening Saturday schedule using a tall quintet to score at will. Greencastle High School overwhelmed Cloverdale 42 to 13 while Fillmore edged Reelsville 22 to 21 with Purcell and Ziner leading the winners and M Kinder top scoring for the losers.
Bainbridge defeated Russellville 27 to 24 after a second half surge. Russellville trailed 22 to 11 at halftime but outscored Bainbridge 14 to 5 in the second period, yet could not overcome the early deficit. Trump and Ferry led Russellville, while O'Hair and Smith starred for Bainbridge.
A tiny crowd witnessed the first round as Greencastle’s Tigers opened with rapid-fire shooting led by Crawley Tobin and Stone. Ellis impressed, while Reelaville struggled against Fillmore in a fast paced display. Friday regional qualifiers saw favorites win with Clinton routing Dana and Crawfordsville edging Ladoga 28 27.
Ellis heated up early for Greencastle in the first half scoring five field goals and one foul shot before the coach pulled him after about ten minutes. The elongator substitute center entered as Greencastle and Bainbridge were set to clash for the finals at 3 o clock.
Mary Jane Goodpasture 82 died suddenly at her Cloverdale home Friday evening from heart disease. She was widow of Lar King Goodpasture and leaves three daughters Mrs Andrew Hill of Muncie Mrs Robert Perry and Mrs George Wallace near Belle Union and three sons Anderson near Cloverdale Grover and John near Belle Union. Funeral Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mill Creek with Rev W E Gill officiating. Interment Mill Creek Cemetery.
Howard Moore, son of Mr and Mrs R P Moore, was severely burned Friday when a car caught fire at a Kentucky filling station as the family traveled home from Florida. He sat under the steering wheel and suffered burns to the face arms and legs before the family drove the car to Greencastle for help.
Allen Eggers of Jackson township announced his candidacy for Sheriff on the Democratic ticket for the May 6 1980 primary. A lifelong farmer, he hails from a long established Democratic family and has twice run for Sheriff, losing by narrow margins. He vows to fulfill the duties of the office to the best of his ability and asks for votes.
Miss Mary Agnes Miller of Thorntown is appointed Putnam county health nurse succeeding Missus Paul Ream. She will begin duties next Tuesday and has prior public health nursing experience in Indianapolis.
The Monarch Grocery and Charles Zeis store owned by Mr Zeis combine assets. Miss Clare Smyth and Miss Rose Has pel relocate to Cincinnati. Model Clothing opening draws over two thousand attendees. Eel River overflows with flood retardation affecting the area.
Ralph Jameison a 41 year old of Commercial Police was arraigned in Putnam circuit court on four new charges including second degree burglary and three counts of petit larceny. He admitted the larceny charges and pleaded not guilty to burglary with trial set for Tuesday. Affidavits by Sheriff Edward Bitelforge and Deputy Alva Bryan detail thefts from Mid-West Stone company Strain orchards and a Pennsylvania railroad can brass and a High Point Oil filling station. Col John J Phelan arrived in Greencastle to inspect proposed sites for a Veterans Hospital with 18 towns collaborating and a Greencastle luncheon at the country club.
The Methodist church board will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday evening March 5. Dr and Mrs Taylor will host a dinner for board members and their wives in the church Community Hall.
Claud Buck Burk, Clifton township farmer, announces candidacy for Democratic nomination for township trustee. He is described as energetic, progressive, and well qualified for the position.
Charles Stegmiller, new owner of the Drue Miller transfer business, was slightly injured this morning while cranking his truck in gear in the driveway of the L. and H. Chevrolet Sales Company. He was caught between the truck and a car owned by William Priest, an employee there, damaging the car fender.
A group portrait from the Knights of Pythias lodge, likely from forty years ago, was found in the Mullins Drug Store window. Presented by W. H. Lyon, the image traveled from Brazil to Greencastle after the lodge moved to Cloverdale. Mr. Mullins seeks a full names list of those pictured.
In Russevalle, February 26, retired farmer R. C. Sutherlin was helping break a young mule when a wagon board broke. He was thrown against the hay frame, fracturing multiple ribs on his left side. Dr. Reed is treating him.
The Purple-Robed Junior Choir of Greencastle directed by Professor K R Umfleet plans a Meharry Hall concert on March 6 at 8 pm. The group, formed to study unaccompanied part music, has drawn national attention, joined the Indiana Federation of Music Clubs, and will perform for college and townspeople with twenty members led by Virginia Ann Throop and other officers.
