Elimination to decide state finals eligibility begins tonight in Indiana. The Putnam County sectional opens at 7 o clock in the high school gym with Greencastle facing Cloverdale.

George Long Charged With Giving Bad Check in Roachdale

Putnam circuit court filed a charge of issuing fraudulent checks against George Long of Roachdale. Prosecutor Marshall Abrams said Long allegedly bought an automobile from C. F. Lewis of Roachdale and paid with a bad check.

Noted minister to give last sermon tonight

Dr. Yates will preach at 7 30 this evening at the local Baptist church. There is no Saturday service and he will not be at the church Sunday. He will fill the pulpit at Third Baptist Church in St Louis MO. He returns to the local pulpit next Monday evening.

Brinner faces four theft charges in Putnam court

Ralph Jameison, 32, Greencastle, was charged with three counts of petit larceny and one of second degree burglary. He allegedly stole from the Strain orchard, a Pennsylvania railroad junk, and a Midwest Stone quarry, plus tobacco and merchandise from a High Point Oil Co station. He is also accused of assaulting his wife and plans a March church series on the American home with readings and pantomime. The Rev. Braner leads the project with five sermons and youth participation.

Woman Refuses to Name Owner in Gas Station Theft Case

Arther Hagan 31 of St. Louis was arrested with his wife by Brazil police and jailed for arraignment on petit larceny. He allegedly confessed taking nine gallons of gas at Lora Buis station on the National road between Mt Meridian and Four Corners, with a car possibly stolen bearing Ohio and West Virginia plates. His wife declined to name the car owner.

Greencastle Deputy Postmaster Applicants Named

William Peck James Albin and Charles Hoagland seek the deputy postmaster position. The Enterprise store on the square was sold to J O Bartlett of Indianapolis. Nellie Gardner hosted friends for the send off of Mr and Mrs Thornton Taylor who depart for Portland. Avia Kelly returns home from Monrovia.

State Road Engineer Begins Two Month Survey Tour

Owen Fye an engineer for the State Highway commission arrives in Greencastle to establish headquarters for the next two months and survey improvements on State Road 48 north of Greencastle. He and his wife occupy rooms with Mrs Leona Kelly VanGorder in Northwood during the stay.

The Cloverdale Lions enter the Gold Medal tournament to be held in the Quincy gym March 10 11 and 12. They are among eight teams competing to decide the district championship for Putnam Owen Morgan Monroe Clay and Greene counties.

Taft Wil liam Howard Taft former President and Chief Justice aged 73 is near death after a night described as peaceful. Doctors say there is no recovery from the combined illnesses and he remains in a coma like sleep with occasional restlessness while those at his bedside question his recognition this morning.

Sharkey Wins After Scott Fails to Continue Bout

Phil Scott of Great Britain alleges repeated fouls in a Madison Square Garden bout with Jack Sharkey of the United States. The Brit collapsed and lost by technical knockout in the third round after Scott refused to continue amid disputed calls and claims of foul play.

Teachers Will Not Play In sectional basketball tilt

Northern Putnam county teachers and southern half teachers were to meet as a sectional preliminary. County superintendent John Vermillion announced the game is cancelled after a note from H L Trester secretary of the Indiana High School Athletic Association. Proposed sites to be inspected for Veterans Hospital

John J. Phelan of Washington began inspecting forty five sites within fifty miles of Indianapolis to evaluate locations for a veterans hospital. Eighteen cities including Kokomo Fort Wayne and Muncie will be visited in the next two weeks. A detailed report will go to the Federal Hospitalization Board for Hoover's approval before a location is announced.

Bee-Keepers Meet With Horticulture Association

The Horticulture and bee-keepers meeting was held in the courthouse all day today. The morning focused on horticulture under Professor Robert A. Ong and the afternoon covered bees in horticulture led by R. A. Evans. Monroe McCown spoke on pruning spraying and soil management while H. O. Yost discussed feeding general management and profit from bees.

Lorenzo D. Clearwaters of Putnamville dies at the Putnam county farm from complications of diseases. Funeral services set for Saturday at 2 PM at Rector Funeral Home with Rev. Grace Black officiating. Interment in Putnamville cemetery. Survived by a daughter in Brazil and a sister, Mrs. Bolton of Putnamville, plus several nieces and nephews.
