Indiana Y M C A elects James Abel to national council

James Abel of Greencastle, future Indiana University Y M C A president, was elected to the National council of the Y M C A at the Lake Geneva Wisconsin student conference. He will be a senior next year and was among four local delegates including WK Joseph Davidanum of India and Richard Mellroy of Terre Haute. Roy Johnston, university Y M C A executive secretary, also attended.

Indiana Bar Association to Hold Bloomington Convention

The Indiana State Bar Association convenes in Bloomington for three days July 9 to 11 with a tunnel at the Masonic Temple and a barbecue at Hill Top cabin west of Nashville as key features. Donald Rogers and John O'Donnell chair Banquet and barbecue committees. About 500 lawyers and many spouses are expected to attend. Greencastle lawyers are among those planning to attend. Mrs. Leo Wilson and her Atlanta guest remain in town. her husband abdomen surgery proved successful. Albert Wilson of Clayton travels to support.

Kiwanis Simultaneous Meetings Planned Across North America

Greencastle Kiwanis joins 1,862 clubs nationwide for a simultaneous meeting observing the 14th International Kiwanis Convention in Atlantic City. The Greencastle gathering at the Country Club will include the Fellowship hour and a message read from Kiwanis president Horace M. Howard. Milt Brown and Joe Crosby will attend the convention and relay telegram messages to the local meeting.

Car suspected of theft found abandoned with Weil Brothers ownership proved

A deserted Essex coach was found in a vacant lot on West Seminary Street near 9 15 PM. John Waddle reported seeing two men leave the vehicle. Police confirmed it belonged to Weil Brothers of Mort Wayne after a telegram from Fort Wayne. the driver and companion had deserted it for the night. Wayne Burnside of Russellville weds Susan Black in Indianapolis.

Police Did Not Know This Sheriff

Ft Wayne Indiana June 26 Sheriff Fred Hamilton appears official in Allen county but Indianapolis police stopped his red light equipped car while he was transporting three prisoners to the state farm at Putnamville. Rum runners have been adding red lights and stars to mimic official vehicles. Officials say Hamilton was unaware of the incident.

Several Firms Prepare Bids on Airport Conditioning Work

Paul Morris of the U S Department of Commerce inspected plans for conditioning the Government Emergency Landing Field southeast of town. Six to eight contractors viewed the plans and bids are due Monday June 30 at the post office. Work includes dirt moving grading leveling and seeding with completion and lighting installed by early fall.

Riddle Seeks Repaired Marriage Ends Court Fraud Claim

Clarence Riddle of Anderson and Carrie Riddle of Dayton wed again after a Henry county divorce earlier in March 1429. The remarriage followed Carrie Riddle’s petition alleging fraud and improper residency, leading Judge John H. Morris to set aside the prior decree.

Purdue field day draws hundreds of farm families to Lafayette

In Lafayette Indiana on June 26 a field day at Purdue University drew several hundred Hoosier farmers and wives. The morning featured a tour of the experimental farm and a noon campus picnic with Dean J H Skinner as the keynote speaker. Afternoon groups visited horticulture dairy poultry hog and livestock farms with a special home economics program for visiting women.

Living Costs Will Increase, Says Evans Woollen in Indiana

Evans Woollen, Indianapolis banker and 1926 Democratic Senate candidate, spoke at a Patmcount home lawn rally for Frank Mayr Jr and South Bend nominee for Secretary of State. He warned the Smoot Hawkins Tariff Act will raise living costs and hinder recovery by reducing demand for U.S. surplus goods abroad. He urged electing Democrats to the General Assembly and ticket.

James H Hughes to return home from hospital

James H Hughes son of Judge and Mrs James P Hughes who had been at St Anthony's hospital Terre Haute since May 4 after a car crash will be brought to the family home on east Seminary street tomorrow. He suffered a fractured skull and broken thigh when the car he rode in veered off the road near Terre Haute and turned over. His condition improved after a period of danger and he is on the road to recovery.

Funeral For Ruth Williams After Knife Slaying Sparks Fear Of Mob

Clay County grand jury to probe the death of Ruth Williams after Fay Williams a demented World War veteran allegedly fatally wounded her with a sharp object. The funeral was held at the First United Baptist Church with interment at Cottage Hill Cemetery. Ruth’s parents and siblings survive. Court Grants Divorce to South Greencastle Man

Emmett Scott of South Greencastle, an employee at Garcia Brothers tee plant, was granted a divorce from Lydia Scott in Putnam Circuit Court by Judge James B. Mighel. Custody of their child, Sylvia Laura Scott, was given to an aunt, Rachel Cox, with the plaintiff ordered to pay $24 weekly for support. The husband testified to cruel and inhuman treatment, including frequent insults. a local policeman testified the defendant caused him trouble on the street at night.
