Louisiana Chamber of Commerce brings its Second Annual Louisiana Special to Greencastle on July 24 with 100 business executives aboard. The train arrives at 12 40 AM and leaves at 9 AM to tour the city and greet residents. Exhibits will include agricultural mineral forest products and manufactured goods prior to a two week tour through Indiana with 43 stops including South Bend Richmond Indianapolis Vincennes and Evansville.
Mr and Mrs Woodall Line welcome a son Link born at Union hospital with proud relatives from Rebelville and other locals. Mrs Merrill Thompson and Mrs Ed Powers also announce births, marking a busy night of new arrivals in the community.
An alert was issued by Charles Mazey, in charge of Indianapolis police for the U S Secret Service, warning of a surge of nearly perfect counterfeit ten dollar notes in Chicago and northern Indiana. The fake currency is said to be issued by the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City Missouri.
Forecast calls for showers beginning late Thursday except in the cooler north portion. South area to expect scattered rain with cooler conditions later in the day.
Frederick C. MacMillan of Pittsburgh sues Sweet & Wright and Metropolitan Insurance in Putnam circuit court for 6159.02 plus interest for unpaid asphalt used on the A. M. Doyle road project in Russell township. Miller Construction of Kentucky supplied the material and transferred its claim to the plaintiff. County prosecutor Marshall Abrams was in Indianapolis on business.
The Hendricks circuit court heard the case of Della Hawkins against Murray G. Garfield. The jury ended 6 to 6 and could not reach a verdict on May 28, 1929, claim for 10 000 damages alleging a truck struck Hawkins on State Road 36 near the Hendricks Marion line.
Dewey Raper of Raper Mofford & Co and James A. Raper of the Brazil Daily Times have bought the Monticello Herald Publishing Co at Monticello Indiana. They now run the weekly Monticello Herald and the Ton Brookston Reporter. The company operates a large job printing department and prints the Indiana Business and Professional Women's clubs bi monthly magazine.
The damage suit of RM Arney against Herschal M Powell and Indemnity Company of North America was filed February 14 in Putnam circuit court and tried today before Judge James P Hughes. It was venued from Owen circuit court where a judgment of 1719.94 was awarded to Arney in February 1929 against Roy Halton but not executed. The insurance company has posted a surety bond for the sheriff. Several witnesses testified this morning. Brick Chapel Epworth League social set for Friday at Miss Zella Minnick’s Greencastle home.
A Greencastle item notes drought damaging the early potato crop by half and threatens the late crop without rain. Mrs Viola Denny returns from Deaconess hospital in Indianapolis for medical care. Mrs J P Allen Jr invites guests to a breakfast honoring Mrs G N Stevens of Evanston Illinois.
Greencastle city officials convened at City Hall with all members present. Beemer Havens presided as mayoral absence noted. Reports covered routine items including claims, salaries, a sewer work bill, and three building permits for Browning Hurst and Cherry.
Miss Rachel L. Pickett age 77 died at home in Reelsville Sunday after a six week illness. She lived all her life in Washington township and is survived by three brothers Foster Tillman Willard and three sisters Nettie McElroy Lucinda Pickett Caroline Puff. Funeral services were Tuesday at 2 pm at the residence with Rev. Fred Brooks officiating. Burial followed in Boone cemetery.
Greeneastle city council plans July election to fill the school board seat formerly held by C. Tucker whose term ends August 1. Democrats control the council and will name a member, with candidates including Eimer Blue and several others such as Hon ig Audrid-Pleenat Willian Sutherlin Charles Reetor Albert Dobbs William Bitelforge Joe Bam berger Horace Fragier Frank Cannon and Jacob Bitel. The election may occur at a regular meeting or a special session by resolution or mayoral call.
Rumors claim the Lone Star cement mill at Limedale may close July 1 for an indefinite period due to water shortages and slow shipments. Dispatches from Indianapolis could not be substantiated and local management knows of no definite shutdown orders, though a brief closure is possible if the move is ordered.
A large force of workers and two road rollers advance resurfacing on State Highway 43 from Cloverdale north to the National Road. Grading is finished and the asphalt surface is to be completed in about forty days. Traffic on the old road continues until the cut-off paving is finished, after which detours will apply between the National Road and Cloverdale. The work is supervised by the State Highway Department.
Indianapolis attorney Homer Elliott and his son Kelso were admitted to the Morgan County Bar Association. Judge J C McNutt presented the motion, Judge Williams recorded the admission, and Homer Elliott supported his son. Kelso, 22, recently graduated from DePauw and will work in Indianapolis before entering Harvard Law School this fall.
Russellville residents were awakened by a fire bell Monday morning as a blaze broke out at a barn on the Taylor Carrington farm near Russellville. Quick action limited damage. the barn sustained only light destruction.
Eli Boswell 65 of Clinton township farmer marries Ida McCartney housekeeper of Muncie. The couple applies for a marriage license as reported in the local records.
