Charles J. Arnold reports on Paul Deweese preparing to parachute from a tri motor Ford plane at Greencastle near 5:30 PM. Deweese praises the parachute’s safety while detailing its Japanese silk, the spare chute, and the $750 cost. He notes his own dream jump and warns that practice won’t guarantee a second attempt.
Sheriff Edward Kitebjorge arrested Fred Allen in Pleasant Gardens after noon Monday and returned him to Putnam county jail to serve a fine he failed to pay. Allen was fined by Judge James P. Hughes in February for intoxication and a ninety day stay of execution was granted, but he did not pay the fee and was jailed this morning in Putnam county.
Roscoe Hurst will formally open Greencastle's Moonlit Minature Golf Course at 700 East Washington Street near the stand pipe. The brightly lit, up to date course offers night play and is expected to be highly popular in Greencastle.
A brightly colored toy balloon from Hammond Virginia drifted to Menodta where A F Shepherd and workers found it in a cotton patch. The tag listed Hammond boys Charley Clark and Rollis Esner. Another balloon also landed near Momence.
The Wabash Valley Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and local dads and troop representatives held its annual spring conference at Camp Kriefenstein with business sessions Sunday. The council nominated chairmen for Finance, Troop Organization, Camping, Leadership and Training, Civic Science, Publicity, Health and Safety, Reading, Court of Honor, and Rural Scouting with Birch Bayh presiding.
A touring car driven by Robert Walden of Crawfordsville overturned east of Whitesville on the Ladoga road en route to Roachdale for Mrs. Bessie McCloud’s funeral. The driver’s wife and another Mrs. Walden, from New Richmond, suffered hip, shoulder, and other cuts and bruises. four children escaped serious harm as passersby and Dr. C. C. Collins treated the women.
Greenfield Indiana June 17 inmates AlLEEP quack tree doctors operating in the area buzzer County Agent Harold Yarling warned the public. They solicit business from farmers and claim to treat shade trees for the cottony maple scale by applying a sticky substance around the trunk. Yarling said such methods fail to stop the pest which attacks leaves and branches not trunks. The recommended control is lime sulfur spray.
Ex-Empress Zita approves Prince Otto's plan to reclaim the throne as Roumanian King Carol II's coup inspires. Officials say Otto turns eighteen in November and could seize power under Hapsburg family law. Otto studies law at Louvain University while awaiting events.
Governor Harry G. Leslie remitted two $200 fines imposed by the Putnam circuit court on Eli Chambers of Greencastle for possession and sale of intoxicating liquor. Each case carried six month farm sentences at Putnamville, to run concurrently. costs of $35 and $38 had been paid.
Ray Cline a 22 year old truck driver of Indianapolis and Evelyn Alley an 18 year old resident of Madison obtained a marriage license.
The outlook calls for generally fair conditions tonight and Wednesday. Temperatures will be slightly cooler in the northeast portion tonight.
Miss Gladys Rogers former Greencastle and Cloverdale girl now with Bratton Ford Agency Martinsville flies in a big Ford plane at the new Government Aviation field. She praises the flight at 120 miles an hour with bumpless takeoffs and landings while spectators crowd to watch and some plan rides.
Daniel C Brackney of Melrose avenue was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Alva Bryan on a charge of malicious trespass. Mike Burdett alleges the May 1 damage to a Burdett fence reached 25 dollars. Brackney posted 200 dollar bond and is to appear July 1 for the hearing before Judge James P Hughes in Putnam circuit court.
Silas A. Hays director of the Central National Bank will speak to bankers of the fifth district in Crawfordsville on the topic The Director. HW. C. Allen elected as new school trustee replacing J. O. Cammack. Lawrence Graham resigns as city fireman. George Williamson named to succeed him. Adelade Thomas and Geralda Thomas visit Carrolltown, Pa.

Mrs. Gail Nolan 32 of Roachdale died Monday evening at home after a illness of a days duration. Heart trouble and pneumonia listed as causes. Former Greencastle resident, daughter of the late Jerome Leachman. Survived by husband Alfred Nolan three children mother and two brothers Lane Leachman Roachdale and Glen Leachman Denver Colorado. Funeral arrangements incomplete.
Col Rev Robbins a noted aviator from Ft. Worth arrives in a tri-motor Ford at 10 o'clock signaling Greencastle Aviation Day. By 1:30 p.m. thirty two planes of the Indiana Air Tour reach Meld amid large crowds and festive air minded excitement.
John Bohannon of Terre Haute, motorman on the east bound interurban car, remains in intense pain at Putnam County hospital with multiple broken ribs and possible internal injuries. R F Hinkle of Hymera, also hospitalized, rests easy after thigh injury from a floorboard splinter. Mrs. Charles Crawley, resident of north Indiana street, suffered two broken ribs and a back injury and has been sent home to recover.
In Clinton Indiana Leo Huttunen delivers the Daily Clintonian and will mark two years on the job in August. His earnings total about 200 dollars, allowing him to buy a fine bicycle and any clothes he needs while continuing to attend junior year at the high school. He is praised by the circulation manager as one of Clinton’s most efficient carriers.
The National League of District Postmasters of Indiana will hold its state convention at Sargent's Hotel in Lake Wawaseer on June 25 and 26. The meeting features national leaders John R. Israelson W H Stonesifer and Thomas Fitch, plus Congressman David Hoog and Andrew J. Hickey.
A land terrapin found on Abe Troxell’s farm west of Connersville bears the initials J T Bo and the date June 25 1911. Glen Calloway holds the shell hoping to locate J T B the carver. Also noted is Peter Tasola 23 of St Louis injured near Mt Meridian and hospitalized in Olive Street.
Thousands gather at Greencastle Government Airport to greet thirty planes of the all Indiana tour fleet. Pilots praise the new site with two runways and cafe stands thriving as the craft prepare to depart for Terre Haute. One plane damaged after an awkward landing but expected to be repaired during a two hour stay.
Evansville hosts thirty Indiana pilots as part of a cross state air tour. After a welcome in Southern Indiana the group planned stops at Princeton Greencastle Columbus Madison Terre Haute and Evansville. A $306000 municipal airport dedication and a banquet highlighted the visit.
