Jack Onkin Faces Federal Trial in Wabash Valley Case

In Terre Haute Indiana June 10 District Attorney George Jeffrey opened the United States District Court trial of forty one men in a Wabash Valley liquor conspiracy case. Several defendants pleaded guilty or not guilty and opening statements followed as Judge Baltzell requested counsel for several unrepresented defendants. Jack Onkin who owns a Greencastle jewelry store is described as a defendant whose alleged connections were dismissed after examination.

Car Crash Damages Two Cars in Greencastle Intersection

Two cars sustained minor damage in a 12:30 p m collision at the DePauw and Broadway corner in Greencastle South. Drivers John Hamilton of Fox Ridge and Sherman Early of Greencastle storekeeper were not injured. Police Chief Otto Dobbs investigated. no arrests were made.

4 H Club Leaders Hold All Day Putnam County Meet

An all day gathering of 4 H club leaders and junior leaders from Putnam County was conducted at the high school vocational building. Miss Sol Berg of Purdue University extension division and County Agent Floyd Miller led the session.

Fire destroys Patton home on South Crown Street

The Patton residence at 1019 South Crown Street was wiped out by a morning fire of undetermined origin. Neighbors, with four young children inside, evacuated the family as the Greencastle fire department and volunteers fought the blaze for about two hours. The building, owned by Milt Brown, suffered heavy damage. furnishings were ruined largely by water. No insurance covered the contents. Pattons were away at work when the incident began.

Summer Project Girl Reserves Story Hour Begins

The Girl Reserves suspend regular club work for summer and run a story hour program at ten each Wednesday starting June 11. Divorce Suit Filed Against Claude Talbott

Mabel Shields Talbott of Putnamville filed for divorce in Putnam Circuit Court this afternoon alleging desertion since May 24 and cruel and inhuman treatment. She notes they married in September 1924 and that Talbott faces a recent criminal charge and is out on bond. She alleges intoxication, failure to provide, and instances of domestic violence.

County Club Members Set for Crawfordsville Golf Tourney

Greencastle country club members will travel to Crawfordsville for a Sunday golf tournament at the Crawfordsville Country Club. Drawings for the tourney will be held after players gather. Several members plan to attend. the event will be an all day affair with dinner served at the Crawfordsville club.

Funeral and burial for former resident Mrs. Delle Wilson Buis

Funeral services with the Eastern Star lodge were held at McCurry Funeral Home at 1 a.m. for Mrs. Delle Wilson Buis wife of Dr. Lemuel Buis who died at her Linton home on Saturday. Interment followed in Forest Hill cemetery. The Buiss resided here until about ten years ago and she was a DePauw University graduate.
