Indiana veteran hospital site talks near Greencastle

Col John Phelan of the United States Veterans Bureau is in Indiana to inspect proposed sites for a regional veterans hospital. Wilbur Donner, chair of the Greencastle committee, says no word has been received on his visit yet. Several towns near Indianapolis vie for the institution and the committee expects notice before Col Phelan arrives.

Downtown Parking Zone Changes Begin

The city street department started painting parking zones in downtown. Angle parking will be used around the square while streets from the square require flat curb parking. City Marshal Ott Dobbs announced no double parking.

Rev. J. N. Dalby county probation officer is critically ill at Putnam County Hospital. The 74 year old man was admitted Wednesday with a locked bowel condition.

Serious charge filed against William Julian in assault case

William Julian aged 53 a farmer-stone cutter living northeast of town faces serious charges for criminally attacking his 12 year old daughter. His arraignment was set for Saturday after a not guilty plea. Wife and daughter are the key witnesses. He was initially arrested in a chicken theft case.

County Latin Contest Winners Are Announced

Miss Virginia Markham announced the County Latin Contest winners after the high school hosted the event. Merton Brown topped first year Latin with 99 percent, leading Greencastle. Bainbridge and Roachdale students followed in multiple levels. Ruling Upheld In Champer Estate Case

Judge Hughes ruling denying Lillie Ratcliff any share of the Champer estate was affirmed by the Appellate Court. The decision, appealed by Ratcliff, upheld Hughes’s finding that she had no claim against the estate of James Ezra Champer. County Clerk Ford Lucas announced the order today.

Clarence Deal longtime Knightsville resident died suddenly about 8 o'clock at his Fourth Avenue home in Terre Haute from heart trouble. He was 70 years old and survived by a large family including widow Elizabeth, five sons, four daughters, 16 grandchildren, and several siblings and half-siblings. Body of missing South Bend school principal found

The body of Arthur Butler Williamson principal of the John Nuner school in South Bend Ind was recovered from the St Joseph River. A coroner s inquest ruled death a drowning while Williamson was of unsound mind, after he had been missing since January 14.

Arrested duo linked to gas station theft in Brazil

Arthur Hogan and a woman claiming to be his wife were arrested by Brazil police for petit larceny after driving off from a filling station on the National road between Mt. Meridian and Four Corners with nine gallons of gas and no payment. Police found dual license plates under the car and suspect a stolen vehicle.

Browning Receives 690 Dollar Settlement in Injury Case

Fugene Browning of Greencastle settled a suit against Putnam County for injuries from a November 22 1929 accident while employed by the county. He reportedly lost about 75 percent hearing in one ear and receives 10 dollars weekly for 75 weeks totaling 690 dollars. Insane youth captured after escape near Evansville

Emmett Hall twenty of near Cloverdale, an insane patient, escaped from the state hospital for the insane at Evansville Tuesday. He was captured by Sheriff Tiffee and Patrolman Nussell of Brazil on the National road east of Brazil near Cray Creek Wednesday afternoon.
