In Indianapolis on February 17, a gang burglarized Omar Bakery at 901 East 16th Street. They bound four victims including three boys and Fireman Blaeford Elliott, attempted to blow safes, with about $5,000 inside one safe. fled when the store sales manager arrived, leaving a burglar kit behind.
Newt Brown of the state tax commission will speak at a meeting of township assessors in Putnam County at the courthouse on Thursday February 20. County assessor Charles Marshall is organizing the gathering. all thirteen township assessors are expected to attend.
Mr and Mrs Frank Donner of Greencastle Indiana sail on James Boring's annual 68 day Mediterranean cruise aboard the White Star line Calgarie. The ship leaves Pier 59 North River with 400 passengers from across the United States and will call at ports in Mediterranean bordering countries. The cruise is personally conducted by Mr Boring and includes travelers from Indiana.
The Sir Philip Ben Greet Players staged Shakespeare's Hamlet at the Little Theater before a crowded audience. English actors conveyed mood vividly in the five arts series event sponsored by DePauw University.

Miss Frances Bassett aged 28 and Miss Virginia Bassett 19 were killed when their car was struck by an eastbound train near Shelbyville Indiana. Frances Bassett taught in Hendricks Township and was engaged to marry. Virginia Bassett was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Bassett of northern Shelby county.
Poultry topics dominate the second feeding school sponsored by Central National Bank Central Trust Co vocational agriculture and the county agent. The session opens tomorrow at 7:50 PM in the high school gym agriculture rooms with H K L Abbott vaeu county agent as outside speaker and Mrs Robert Irwin from Greencastle plus Piercy 8 Clair of Cloverdale also on the program.
K L Wang, a 1928 Purdue graduate, named president of Kiangai Agricultural College at Nanchang Kiangai China. The college enrolls about 200 students.
A heavy snowstorm crippled traffic in Greenscastle with depths from 15 inches to 3 feet. Sylvester Miller and family relocated from Elm Street to Anderson Street. Dr. Eugene Hawkins and Earl Lane plan a 159th Indiana Volunteers reunion here soon. Miss Bertha Eiteljorge expected home today from Carlsbad New Mexico.
The House Appropriations Committee recommended over 2 million dollars for Justice and Coast Guard enforcement as part of the deficiency bill totaling 48.15 million. The package funds federal prison expansion, BI, U.S. Marshals, coast guard boats for Great Lakes smuggling control, and boosts the Federal Trade Commission. Buildings and veterans hospital projects receive multi-million boosts including sites for veterans homes and a new Supreme Court building plan.
The DePauw University choir presented the Yours Peoples Service at the new Methodist church Sunday night. Professors Pearson and Thompson, Mrs Louise Palmer Walker, and Miss Edna Bowles performed solo and ensemble pieces under Dean McCutohan's direction, delivering a full hour of music to a large audience of students and townspeople. Walker played two violin numbers accompanied by Professor Thompson.
I R Bartley vice president of the Tri State Postmasters Association attended a Fort Wayne meeting to finalize plans for the June 18 19 convention at the Keenan Hotel. About 600 attendees expected with entertainment for wives arranged and officials from Indiana Kentucky and Ohio listed among delegates.
A series of minor accidents occurred over the weekend in Altos. Clayton Alexander's Economy Store track collided with a sedan driven by an unnamed man at Walnut and Indiana. both cars were damaged but no injuries reported. J. W. Herod's Elm Street car shattered glass after hitting a telephone pole. he was uninjured. Harold Allen's Indianapolis vehicle overturned on the National Road east of the Grant Hotel. the driver abandoned the car and sheriff-ordered Transport to Tribby garage. top and rear glass were damaged.
Greencastle Chapter No. 22 of Ak A Masonry called a meeting Friday at 7 30 pm with B A degree. C F Mathes H P and Gene Meikel address 508 North Jackson Street Greencastle. Meikel, son of Charles Meikel, won one of the $7 50 prizes in the Indianapolis Star auto assembly contest.
Roscoe Wells sues Glen Burgess and Hazel Burgess in Putnam Circuit Court for 160 dollars to cover interest attorney fees and 50 dollars principal alleged unpaid on a note.

The joint Parent Teachers Association meeting honoring Founders Day will be held Tuesday evening at 7 o clock in the High School Auditorium Miny Eilel Ader s Hone Bean einsoelations in the city. The evening program includes musical numbers by Leota Mulling and Vera Grace Brown followed by a Founders Day address by Mrs. Frank Jones Prof Virgil Mulling will speak from State Teachers College Terre Haute. Kiwanis quartet will close the program with a finale. Members are urged to register for a banner for largest attendance.
