Dr H A Gobin reports men in Gamp are well and happy after return from Louisville. He notes health improved and contented mood among workers. A friendly rivalry exists between companies in the town.
Dr. Hillary A Gobin vice president of DePauw University spoke at a Camp Taylor banquet in Louisville praising the health and high moral tone of the soldiers. He credited Prof. Cecil C North for the camp atmosphere and noted rivalry among company cooks. About forty five guests attended the event as soldiers seek furloughs to attend Sunday service dedicating the university service flag.
The DePauw University faculty voted to require physical education for all 206 male students. Elementary military drill will accompany the program, with Coach E. C. Buss overseeing upperclass training. Dr. Gobin called the action a war measure tied to national needs.

Community response grows after Prof. Michelon appeal. Barrels of clothing already shipped to France and a war market set for Saturday at the Greencastle gas company offices to raise funds. Gifts of food will be sold, donors asked to include names and recipes to support the fund.
An illness described as epidemic grips Greencastle with swelling hands and feet and intestinal involvement. It resembles grippe and pneumonia but is treated in about forty eight hours with proper diet. Causes uncertain though recent weather and similar outbreaks in other cities, including Indianapolis, are noted.

Washington reports the Federal Fuel Administration chief Dr. Garfield announced the heatless Monday program may resume if railroad breakdowns recur before the ten week limit. He granted state administrators authority to extend closures locally if needed and noted New England may keep the order through March 25.
Charles Tucker a 13 year old driving a log wagon was swept into Otter Creek by ice and carried under by the swollen water. His shepherd dog leaped from the wagon, grabbed his coat, and paddled to shore with him to safety, summoning his father who found him exhausted but alive. The dog will have a home for life.
DePauw University to present its service flag next Sunday after noon recognizing nearly four hundred students in the country's service. Mr. William Tway will present the flag and President Grose will give an address with music by the University Choir. Reserved seats offered for parents and Putnam county residents.
The will, now admitted to probate in the circuit court, directs that after monument erection at family graves, Stilesville M. E. church receives 1000 dollars for grave care. Central Trust Company holds china and jewelry for nephew Raymond Allen Heavenridge until age 23, when he inherits the rest of the estate. If he dies, the estate passes to Carl Heavenridge, Lyman H. Heavenridge, and Hallie Banta share and share alike.
County food administrator T E Evans reports a state order prohibiting sale of live or freshly killed hens and pullets until May 1, 1918. The ban aims to spare poultry for egg production and prevent slaughter, with penalties including license cancellation for violators.
