A countywide price fix approved by the Grocers Committee will take effect Friday February 15. The action comes at the request of the state administration and covers foodstuffs across the county.
Evans approves new price schedule for staples in Putnam County with Friday start date. Grocers Dean Smythe Trail Mullinix Zeis Caldwell form committee. Mrs N C O’Hair named county deputy to Evans to appoint township administrators.
Miss Irma Hootman daughter of the Rev and Mrs A M Hootman will travel to New York this afternoon to meet her fiance Prof William Reddick They plan to wed on Wednesday afternoon in New York Reddick is a noted musician and has served as accompanist for Miss Alice Neilson He currently writes music and directs music at a large New York church Reddick has visited Greencastle and is well known there
Washington reports Indiana families planning war gardens as seed requests flood congressional offices. The USDA urges early planning for fertilizer and seed selection, advising staple crops and interplanting with vegetables. Youth participation is highlighted by lessons from a Western state where 12,000 youths grew and canned produce worth 336,000 dollars.
A series of property transfers records dozens of parcels across Madison Monroe and Jackson townships. Cass county has sold 9,140 in Thrift and War Savings Stamps.
President Wilson addressed Congress to reject peace terms from German and Austrian leaders. He insisted the United States will continue the fight until Germany accepts just peace, urging resolve against Teutonic misstatements. Congress and the nation welcomed his keynote.
The Summitville Reporter records the wedding of Mrs. Minerva Beeson formerly of Greencastle to George H. Mingle of Daleville Ind. In a Greencastle Circuit Court room hearing on the Indiana Public Service Commission rate case, C. T. Peck says Mr. Edwards will come to Greencastle on February 19 to hear evidence from the Greencastle Telephone Co and city officials. Local patrons may attend without traveling to Indianapolis. The session is expected to draw a large crowd as both sides present exhaustive testimony on telephone rates.
Four sales are listed this week near Greencastle including George Gardner closing out sale on Feb 21 seven miles northwest of town at the farm he sold. Leo B Reeves sale planned March 10 ten miles west. A large stock sale with thirty head of mules is set for Feb 26 at the Jackson farm six miles east. John Quinlisk will hold a Feb 25 sale west of town featuring stock and personal property.
Amsterdam reports Russia has formally withdrawn from the war with orders to demobilize armies on every front. Diplomatic and economic relations are to resume with Germany Austria-Hungary Bulgaria and Turkey. The Brest-Litovsk dispatch notes the war state is ended though no peace treaty was signed.
