Say says Greencastle high school team G H S the Cubs lost a wild home game to Brazil a former coal town Brazil pulled away in the final four minutes with seven baskets while G H S managed one hoop. The crowd endured a nerve wracking finish and the writer praised the players but warned against the strain of this brand of basketball.
John A Logan of Peoria Illinois has arrived to take the manager job at the Indiana Theatre owned by Harry Vonderschmidt. An experienced motion picture manager, he has worked with Loewe circuit houses in Memphis Tennessee and Evansville Indiana and will move his family to Bloomington for residence.
The Voncastle theater in Greencastle reopens after a remodel on February 6 with a Spanish themed interior, new seating and ventilation. A three day run of Ben Hur starts Monday, returning to mark renewed success with a continuous show from 2 PM to 11 PM and Bud Tracy leading the orchestra.
Clarence Chamberlin, famed trans Atlantic flyer, and co pilot Roger Williams survived a crash on takeoff in Richmond Virginia while attempting a new endurance record. The Martine Bellanca plane struck a ditch from about 50 feet, injuring Chamberlin with bruises and a burned hand and leaving Williams with scratches. Officials cited runway length and momentum as the crash cause during the bid to surpass Germanys 52 hour 22 minute 31 second record.
Ray R. Chadd of Bainbridge died at Putnam County hospital after surgery for stomach ulcers. Born near Greencastle, he lived in Putnam County all his life and worked as an elevator and machinery contractor. He is survived by his mother Mrs. Morgan Chadd, wife and three sons Clyde Archie and Howard, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral arrangements not yet announced.
The Monroe Township farmers plan an annual institute in the Bainbridge Opera House on Friday February 17 with speakers L S Van Natta and Mrs Carl Tuttler. The program features music, addresses on farming co operation hospitality women’s duties and feed lot factors plus committee reports and premium awards in corn potatoes bread cake butter and art.

Word has been received of the death of Mrs. James Brock in Indianapolis. She was formerly a Bainbridge resident and moved with her husband to Indianapolis about three months ago. Mr. Brock was formerly a Bainbridge merchant. She leaves her husband and one daughter Mrs. Ben Harris of Indianapolis.
The Alpha Omicron Pi sorority hosts Open House at its new South Locust Street residence on Saturday afternoon and evening inviting members and prospects to tour the facilities.
Morris Murphy publicity manager of the Big Four rail road spoke to University of Indiana history students on railroads economic impact in Indiana. He traced early muddy roads to modern Mikado locomotives and noted past prejudice against rail travel while highlighting advances in locomotive design and railroad history.
Perry M. Parker, father of slain Marion Parker, leads 38 state witnesses in the Hickman kidnap murder trial. Alienists prepared to testify Hickman acted in his own mind, with Dr. Reynolds asserting the crime was deliberate and logically planned.
Health Nurse Carol Shoultz led throat examinations at First Second and Third Ward schools as a preventive diphtheria measure. One positive culture emerged at Second Ward School, prompting testing of all in that room to curb a potential outbreak. Louise Smith, daughter of Charles and Mrs. Smith, Bloomington Street, is the identified positive case.
A fire at the Showers Bros. furniture factory in Bloomington Indiana on February 3 caused an estimated loss of 15 900 to 20 000 dollars. The blaze began in the finishing room of plant No 2 and was extinguished by water, ruining a large quantity of furniture.

Two Brazil men M. E. Schaffer and Stanley Jones were arrested Friday night between halves of a Brazil game on liquor offenses. Officer Grimes said they were drinking liquor. they were released overnight and scheduled for Mayor's court this afternoon. Schaffer faces possession and intoxication charges. Jones faces intoxication. A small liquor bottle was seized.
In Brazil Indiana on February 3 65 year old farmer William Rhoten of Lena was alive after twice attempting suicide. He shot himself in the head with a rifle causing a scalp wound and then cut his throat with a pocket knife missing vital areas. Doctors said he would recover.
Col Robert W Stewart head of the Standard Oil Co of Indiana was freed from Senate custody by a writ of habeas corpus issued by Justice Bailey. Stewart faced contempt charges and was to appear before the Senate bar for judgment, with a chance to purge by speaking today.
Washington Feb 4 Colonel Robert W. Stewart chairman of the Standard Oil Indiana faced a contempt hearing at the Senate bar after refusing to answer questions at the Teapot Dome inquiry about the Continental Trading Company Liberty Bond fund. Stewart remained in custody overnight with a warrant pending purge or possible imprisonment up to one year and a fine to ten thousand dollars.
John Ritter of the State Farm Bureau reports Putnam County will form the strongest Farm Bureau group in its history as memberships rise during a township driven drive. Floyd township signed 38 members in two days with a quarter of the area yet to canvass. Clinton Center held a second meeting as campaigns continue. Farmers show keen interest and every township will be covered next month to offer membership.
